Ok, I shall buy one. Or should I say, I've bought one. Yes, no kidding. It's stills camera for photographers, which is what I want to use it for. Having tried mirrorless for a few years, I would like to return to a bright optical viewfinder. Right now it seems Pentax offer the best options within the DSLR market place. Every other manufacturer seem to be abandoning the DSLR market in favour of mirrorless. Which is fine if you also want to do video. If you do not, then a DSLR is probably your best option. So Pentax it is then.

As Leif said, the Astrotracer works with the O-GPS1 as it did on the original K3. The K3iii also works to get GPS from a phone for geotagging (but not Astrotracer).

The point of a flip screen is not _"for shooting like this"_ (ie at arms length) @1:48. In fact it is obvious from that pose that you would _not_ need a flip screen to do that. A flip screen is for awkward situations like if the camera is on or close to the ground, or is on a high tripod above eye level. Otherwise, the camera looks good.

The flip screen is used at arm's length by vloggers, and a flip screen works better for them. You could also use your phone linked to the K3iii as a separate preview screen.

@@theharper1 No phone thanks. I have enough junk to cope with on a shoot already, not do I want Google/Apple/Everyone helping themselves to copies of my pictures. There isn't an app on my phone (even the freaking _maths calculator_ ) that does not demand the right to take copies of any pictures that are on the phone.

Dynamic range is excellent, I love it. I hope to get another body soon, because I borrowed Mike’s K3 for this video. Expect more shot soon, including black and whites 😃👍

Yes it does have AF.C in video 🙂 I saw one very quick sample of the 4k. It looked good but like I said. It was a very short clip (and stationary) so it's hard to see frame/bitrate issues.

idk if the focusing screen is easily interchangeable, for split prism focusing for manual lenses and since the vintage manual lenses popularity is on rise, I have no idea why Pentax (or Nikon with D780 or any other previously released dslr) didn't put split prism screen from the begging

Split focus screens only work well with relatively fast lenses -- F4 and faster, but preferably F2.8 and faster. Back in the day, most cameras had relatively fast prime (non-zoom) lenses, and so the split focus screens worked very well. However, with the advent of compact zoom lenses, it is not uncommon for the zoomed aperture to be F5.6 or higher. In this case, one half or the other of the split focus ring will appear as black, and it won't be possible to use it to focus. Having said that, there are aftermarket focus screens available for many DSLRs (though the Pentax ones are apparently out of production).

I did buy after market split screens for both my K10D and my K-5. First thing, it will affect centered exposure measure a bit. Also, it is impossible to keep the screen perfectly clean when changing, so I always had some dust visible in the viewfinder. Over the years, I started to dislike more and more the split screen, because the mat focus part is in fact more precise to use. Therefore I switched back to the Pentax mat focus screen (but I have now not the correct focus in the viewfinder, it seems to need the adjusting pad for some reasons). So when Ricoh will finally take in account my order (and not just debiting my credit card), I will keep the K-3 III stock.
