I got 7 days to die way back when the terrain was still blocks. After enjoying the game thoroughly I did put forth money towards the company and essentially investing in them. It wasn’t the lightest amount of money either. And as an investor I’d personally prefer to not see the game I poured a lot of extra money into be sold 10 years later for nearly $50. I already own the game, but even still I firmly believe the price is being marked up far too high. The games good don’t get me wrong, but unless this update transforms it into near triple A quality (which I don’t see happening) it would never be worth the marked up prices.

When 7D2D started it was a PC game for a long long time before it ever came out on console. This video makes it sound like it was both from the start which just is not true. The game originally released only on PC in December 2013 Consoles could not run it at most times of its development. TFP eventually got a deal and made a console version with Telltale games in 2016, that turned out very badly in the end,( businesswise.) Today, its really not "gold or 1.0" IMHO, as its got a long way to go, as their "roadmap" shows. It also has many bugs that need to be fixed, and has for a long time. I'm a huge fan of the game since playing it after its first couple years in 2015, but its always been a work in progress and that has not changed. I just think TFP wants to get it out on console for multiple reasons. (Tired of being asked for a console version, a large younger age audience, maybe a profit boost, etc etc.) Its a completely different game now and has to be completely reworked for consoles unlike PC.

What's messed up is that the new console version won't support split screen. My wife and I have been playing split screen on ps4 since 2017. Every year waiting for a console update. Finally get one, we have to pay for it, and it won't even have split screen anymore. The kicker is I also have the game on PC, but cross platform won't come until "Q4" 2024, which means either Q3 2025 or never. So despite having paid for 2 versions, literally buying a ps5 once 1.0 was announced, we won't be able to play split screen on any new versions past alpha 14 from the old console version, and at best will be waiting a minimum of 6 months to be able to play cross Gen. And by that point there will be things the PC version has that console doesn't because developers have such a hard on for PC.

You played on split screen because the game was relatively light to handle. Split screen = twice the ressources to process in real-time. The 1.0 release is an entire new game demanding a lot of power. It uses almost 100% of the hardwares (pc or console). Split Screen isn't possible. If you look at the positives, the console version of 7 Days to Die will be launched in July and that's pretty cool. Your old console game wasn't the propriety of The Fun Pimps. It was owned by Telltale Games and they filled for bankruptcy in 2018. It's a whole new game now.

Not to attack your method of play, but split screen is a thing of the past and does not/should not need to exist anymore. Same for consoles really... They are non-upgradeable pcs with operating systems that limit them to playing games and few other types of apps. 7dtd supports controller on pc if you hate mouse and keyboard. It would be nice if we could have all games on 1 medium excluding VR type stuff. It's all a large package of disadvantages. I genuinely feel it best to just end consoles and push all games that don't require a drastically different set of equipment into pc and same thing when pc gets replaced. It's not part of the stupid pc vs console war. It's just updating technology. For the time being, I hope they keep console = to PC on updates. -One of the things keeping consoles alive I noticed is the exclusive games stuff where they force you to play that console just to experience the game which is scummy. Nintendo does this a lot while having sub par consoles as they never upgrade them enough.

What keeps consoles alive is that they are a superior experience. They allow for the purchase of medium that has a shelf life longer than 2 years. An affordable purchase at that. 500 dollars buys you almost a decade of play. Whereas a pc costs a minimum of 2 grand, and at that price point you're not even able to play games on maximum settings out of the box. In 1 year you're barely meeting minimum system requirements, and in 2 to 3 years you can't meet min requirements for high end games.

@@geraldalbone7 Consoles like playstations and xboxs are unupgradable pcs. Pcs stay relevant longer considering specs for the same games as consoles. Consoles tend to have toned down versions of graphics due to the weaker components. There is a reason why consoles are frequently limited to 30-60 fps. They are just starting to get into 120 withsony's new stuff. Any device can do that effortlessly for a decade. Current not even top of the line PCs run at 120-thousands of fps depending on what game they are running. The reason why some pcs don't last as long is lack of quality in some brands or unoptimized games. & days to die is severely unoptimized. As for the device i'm using. It cost 1800 and has served me for over 4 years and almost halfway to 5 and it is still running games flawlessly at 120fps. It is a laptop which further increases the cost. I could build a brand new >desktop< right now for under 2k that would last 7+ years and I could replace individual parts when I need more power/speed out of it. With pc you are making an investment. While console you are buying something to get rid of. Another reason why pcs cost more is they can do everything while consoles only do gaming and basic social media/YT. PCs are able to run all console games. You can connect a controller to a pc. I do agree however that PC parts are overpriced rn. You can thank mostly NVIDIA for that. AMD makes some nice GPUs for 3/4ths to 1/2 the price NVIDIA does. You cannot just straight up lie to me and say consoles are more powerful than PCs. If that were true, then PCs would never have succeeded consoles.

I'm just happy to see this game finally going gold lol. Every alpha TFP releases is full of content but until now, there was never really and incentive to really grind past game stage 200 since your gonna have to make a new world within a year. Now everyone can play the game knowing what they're doing wont be meaningless withing 18 months. Also the armor system change and animation improvements were heavily needed. I get people want new things rather then redo's old systems but i don't think people understand the impact of these changes. The game will feel and look WAY more polished.

Consoles charge publishers every time they release an update, unless it is in alpha or beta status. I'm guessing that the last gen fiasco with the unsupported port made Sony and XBox demand that TFP release it as a "full" release, which would explain going gold early.

Honestly I don't believe they had any intention going gold. I think they got in trouble by Steam and were forced to go live because they have been in early access for over 10 years. I don't know anything else that has been in early access for over 10 years. To be fair the good thing is they kept working on the game and improving it, and I also really have liked this game and played over 1000 hours on it because it is one of the best sandboxes I have played.

Makes sense to charge extra for console version. Look at it this way, if they didn't spend time optimizing for shitty console hardware they would probably have more time to focus on actual game features. Nobody forces you to buy the game, yo. More goes into whichever one came second because you have to reconfigure everything, added to the fact that so much has changed in the game since Alpha 15 when Telltale went under, so I understand why console players will have to buy it again. changing engines wouldn't fix the graphics. the engine has little to do with it. it's a weird fallacy i keep seeing online. you can literally mod og morrowind to make it look like a modern aaa game and that engine is from early 2000's. the graphics look like they do because that's just what the fun pimps went for. could they have made them look nicer? sure and they have a lot since the game first came out. it used to look like minecraft. but swapping to unreal or something wouldn't magically make the game look better. plus as far as i'm aware they have updated to newer versions of unity since they first started. frankly the game is just resource heavy as it is and upping the graphical fidelity would basically make even beefy pc's crap their pants.

yes they outsourced the game to a company in Australia to make the new console version so yeah its very understandable to ask for console players to pay for it again as its practaly a new game compared to the old console version, you could even go as far to say its 7 days to die 2 on console

the problem isn't that they can't just update the old version or give them the new version. the issue is they've had the rights back for awhile now, but kept selling the old version. they should have delisted it once they were able, but they didn't. and they've known they wouldn't be able to update the old version, but kept selling it anyways. that's the issue many people have.

Fallout 4 was $59.99 back in 2015. This is a common price point for many new video games released for major consoles and PC. On the other hand, 7 Days to Die is a Sandbox type of game what will give you hundreds of hours of replayability, like Minecraft. It's my opinion, but personally I would pay $59.99 for 7D.

I mean just the nerd outfit alone was enough to trigger me into ending my playthrough when I saw it was being planned (again). also sort of bored with how hoardes work.. it was like 7 or 8 versions of the game I'd be pissed at TFP for something but would keep playing... but that change to the outfits just did me in. at this point I don't even care if they never did or do implement those outfits, just the threat pissed me off enough to walk away. lol and yes I DO see it as a "threat" ...to assault my eyes. lmfao 😜

A lot of people defending TFP here seem to not understand the whole context of why console people are upset. Hell a lot of console people themselves aren't familiar with the better reasons why they should be upset. TFP claim they had to buy the rights from dead Telltale, and that it took years-long legal litigation and a LOT of money to get it back. In reality it probably didn't cost nearly what they make it sound, was something they could absolutely pay for given continued console sales (and even a price hike) from people misled by PC update trailers, and they failed to tell console players they had the console rights in hand again for months/years despite claiming the opposite and that that was why they couldn't update it. Admittedly a lot of the above is conjecture, but when TFP's communication is so bad and the lead dev Joel is such a blabbermouth that makes failed promises while also being tightlipped on others, people are going to fill in the blanks.

This is a bad take. There's no reason to buy the existing console version of 7 days to die because it's not being updated. Nobody should be advised to buy it on console if its available. It's not the same between PC and console. The old version stuck on Alpha 16 died with Telltale games. The 1.0 that is coming out on console is effectively a different game in terms of listing. The fun Pimps do not contractually own the rights to the older console version in order to continue working on it. Some debt collector or bank probably owns the rights to the Telltale console 7 days to die version.

um wow you have made a LOT of mistakes and made a lot of misinformation! first mistake you made, the game originally released only on PC in December 2013 and was then ported over to PS4 and Xbox One in April 2016 by Telltale Games, Another mistake you made is that this 1.0 release wont be for PS4 and Xbox One and is only for the Latest consoles PS5 and Xbox series. The sole reason console players have to purchase the game again is because the older hardware cant run the latest improvements to the game and the other reason the consoles havent been getting updates is because the FunPimps lost the rights to the console version when Telltale Games went under thus stopping them from updating that version. Maybe next time you should do just a little bit of research before you make misleading videos like this.
