Well, actually.. there's actually a very simple scientific explanation on what happened there - why the knife acted that way. You see, most modern knives like that have plastic handles, not wooden ones like they used to. But they're still sold in wooden blocks because it's aesthetically pleasing. The wood used in the mass produced blocks is a lighter, processed wood and not 'pure carved' wood. You can see the guy was cooking because of all the ramen packages nearby, so the stove was probably putting off a lot of heat. So, with all that taken into consideration, you can see why the ghost got so pissed off and needed to cut a bitch.

You see an animal doing goofy shit, and have a friend near you, it's mandatory you tell them they look like that animal. I also understand the irony that apes are our closest living link and white people are equally related as black people, its special not racial. and this is where it gets interesting. Humans see likenesses in great apes that they see in themselves and others. There's an intuitive connection. What may have happen is she saw something in the ape that she recognized in her co-worker--a look in the eye, a facial expression, some shape in the face, some characteristic outside the old trope that reminded her of her co-worker that had nothing to do with racism.
