went there few days ago from Brunei to KL then landed in Hat Yai and I can promise you all you'll not regret esp for Muslim travelers. its my first time entering the beautiful country of Thailand , people are friendly and to my surprised there are cats everywhere so its a must go for cat lovers as well :D

"The bird's nests used for this soup are not simply found in trees, abandoned by their owners. These edible bird’s nests belong to the swiftlet, a small bird usually found in Southeast Asia. The swiftlet lives in dark caves and, similar to bats, use echolocation to move around. Instead of twigs and straw, however, the swiftlet makes its nest from strands of its own gummy saliva, which is produced by the glands under the tongue. The nest then hardens when exposed to air." Many People of southern Thailand n Malaysia citizens residing in the north have close family relationships ..we do share some similar cultures n traditions... There are hundreds... probably thousands of (Southern ) Thai restaurants all over Malaysia....

A Thai person will associate everything with winning lottery numbers. This include honking car horn on the curve up the mountain where the spirit houses usually are. Sometimes interpreting the license plate number of popular person and so on. Many temples with Naga worship (big snake) are also related to begging for winning the lottery. Spirit houses being sometimes also give you winning number in the dream but you have to reverse it.
