People making videos about the revitalization of Detroit ignoring that its just Gentrification and never showing Rouge Park, Chene Ferry Market, the Packard Plant or the vast plowed down houses or boarded up houses. Don't make Slopaganda. Potholes in Michigan can be fixed. There has been permeable technology for decades but the Blue Politicians will not require bids to include it. Instead they require union workers who don't know how to pave roads for the freeze/thaw nature of our land. I think it was in 1975 when Detroit experimented on I 75 Northbound between 8 and 9 mile or 7 and 8 mile. They paved 200yd sections of highway using techniques from other countries. I think a total of 7 different types. The German 12 inch thick with 3 layers of rebar held up the best and was still in pristine condition after the trial. It was destroyed and no one remembers it. One man in around 2000 came up with a way to reuse tires to make a hexagonal sheet with pea gravel that would allow for freeze/thaw, would last 10x longer and be quieter. Nothing came of it. We mispronounce everything in Michigan. We have a lot of French names including Detroit, Gratiot, Cadieux, then we have more and more like Newburgh, Hamtramck, and my favorite Gyro. Seriously, when people visit we look like morons pronouncing things so wrong.

As a 64 year Michigander, I can tell you we DON'T like our roads. Nobody likes driving through a pothole laden road and we don't take any pride in blowing a tire. It's embarrassing when traveling through other states or Canada and enjoying nice roads. On the other hand, the Michigan U turn is ingenious. I was visiting my kid in Cali and it was terrifying to drive their roads with him making legal U turns in intersections!

This promised explanation did not disappoint!💙🩵 Never throw your Vernors! 🤯 Like any good Michigander, I've been chilling on the front porch, sipping mine and watching the storm roll over us until yesterday, when it was plenty warm enough to shovel snow in a t-shirt! I'd like to add a #11- people who don't live here telling us it's "weird and dangerous" to sit on our front porch and watch storms. We all know you don't head to the basement unless an actual funnel cloud is spotted! They just don't get it. And a two views #12 - I hate outsiders dismissing our beautiful UP as just a bunch of forests with little to do there, but I like it because we can enjoy our hidden treasures with less traffic!

I like how you handled, the contentious Detroit issue. I grew up in Detroit in it's hayday. And for a number of reasons the city collapsed. And in a number of instances the residents, said enough of this, and turn things around. The best example of this is the devils nights fires before Halloween were rampant, residents start taking up patrols ,and they put a stop to that. Along with neighborhood watches. And good people with money . Really the new fathers of the city ,started putting money into it ,and started building up the downtown. It's a city that is turning itself around. Thank you, for touching on that.

I said, "Son, I was born and raised there, and yes, you can grow apples there, along with a whole lot of other fruits and vegetables, too. Our state flower is the apple blossom. Leading producer of cherries. We have a blueberry festival every year. It's not winter there year round, we do get summer temps in the 80s on the regular. So yes, it's warm enough there to grow apples." His friends ribbed him pretty hard for his ignorance. I just felt sorry for him for not knowing better.

If you think about it, how often do Michigan and Ohio State fans get hyped up about a anything but a football game between the two? Whereas, when it comes to the other sports, such as basketball or hockey, the biggest rivalry seems to be MSU vs. Michigan. For either school, it's always gratifying to beat Ohio State, but it's especially fun to beat the other instate Big 10 school even in tennis.

I've lived here 24 years and I love it, but making excuses for your shitty roads is pathetic at best.

I don't own an umbrella or a coat. I wear wool on my head and I'm good. I detest football.
