The Adventist Philosophy of Music doesn't say No to instruments(Drums). We do use instruments in worship and praise. The study of the music in the bible makes us careful as to what instrument to use and what time to use them. This has been the Church's position since its inception just that most people haven't read to understand. Alex, with his experience in music, should know better.

The caption is quite misleading but I'm not surprised. Journalists will do anything for the attention. I think the issue here is from a certain group of SDA's and not the position of the entire worldwide SDA Church. As a rule of thumb, not many instruments are used by the church for worship, to make it as solemn as possible. Percussion instruments are reduced to the barest minimum to produce a reverence atmosphere. If percussion instruments are used, they are played very reverently and solemnly. However, aside the worship service, all sorts of instruments are used for all other programs like entertainment, music festivals/events, parades, social events, etc. The idea is to curtail an abuse and thus making profane, the worship to the Almighty God. There is a lot of misinformation and miseducation out there.

The fact of the matter is , those songs (highly instrumentals) are played at social Adventist gathering but not in the presence of the most high God during Sabbath divine service. Excuse me to say Zion is ignorant of this, Alex could have done better by clarifying the difference. Scriptural Ref: Habakkuk 2: 20, Amos 5:23, Colossians 3:16 , Ephesians 5:17-19.
