In our pursuit of living up to false standards, we spend our lives doing things we do not like instead of doing things that uplift our souls. Dr. Tim Kasser's research suggests that wealth and status do not equate to well-being. It has the opposite effect on us. Every person has two kinds of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic. People pursuing intrinsic goals show a higher of fulfilment and well-being. The more you are driven by extrinsic values, the more you starve your intrinsic values. One day when you realize that your life is almost over, you will look back on your life with clarity. You have one life, and it is too short to leave your dreams unfulfilled.

That's true. Our system is designed in such a way that we are stuck chasing security and we're constantly in a survival mode, thus ignoring all intrinsic motivations. The system is flawed.
