Every time I see footage of songs where Dennis or Carl is the lead I get choked up. I think it’s just pure empathy for Brian. I’ve seen too many interviews of him talking about the love he has for them. It’s just so sad he lost both of his baby brothers. He was truly his brothers’ biggest fan too. Every time he talks about songs they did there’s always such enthusiasm even decades and decades removed from their recordings. God bless the Wilson brothers.
@lawrence1420024 жыл бұрын
One sad thing is that Carl and Brian had a big disagreement towards the end of Carl's life and it cost them valuable time together. One of the things was that Melinda, Brian's wife (who has something of a Yoko Ono-like reputation today), had convinced Brian to try and finish Smile, which Carl thought would only cause Brian to have another breakdown. Then, Brian had written some songs with Andy Paley for Baywatch Nights, and one of them, "Dancin' the Night Away", Carl hated with a passion and he walked right out of the recording. The record company told Brian he needed to do some better songs, and Brian blamed Carl because he thought they were some of the best he'd ever written. Brian did an interview where he called Carl "an asshole". Not long after that, Carl was diagnosed with lung cancer and they kind of put their animosities aside at that point because Carl wasn't long for this earth.

I’ve noticed that too! They always gave Brian credit, unlike their cousin, and Brian always got such a huge smile on his face whenever he was asked about their songs. He’s be like: “oh! That’s my BROTHER’s song!”

I like Dennis's voice more in here, but the harmonies I feel are best in the studio, but you can feel the raw emotion from Dennis's voice. It doesnt have the light and purity like Brian and Carl, but it has probably the most emotion between the Wilson brothers

I agree. I prefer this 1971 live version of this song, too. It's really sad the life the Wilson brothers had gone through in their youth. Murray was a horrible father. Extremely abusive towards his son's. Especially Brian. Dennis and Carl both had suffered by seeing Murray's abusive and over controlling, judgemental actions towards Brian's masterpieces he created. Murray screwed his boys over, by selling off their catalog out of spite. He was not only a horrible manager, and father. Murray caused permanent trauma they all had to deal with throughout their lives. Dennis and Carl were just as affected as Brian was. I read Brian autobiography many years ago. God Bless him for fighting his demons, and winning. The Wilson boys are Legends! David Marks has remained a Beach Boy throughout their career. He is a killer guitarist on a Fender Stratocaster for sure.

If Murray Wilson wasn't so hard on his three sons, they wouldn't have had such a difficult time with each of their lives....
