Irresponsible dog ownership is the entire reason that everyone in this case suffered. The plaintiff, her sweet dog, and the defendant's dog. ALL because the defendant didn't take care of her ownership responsibilities. And at the end she STILL thinks she shouldn't have had to pay for everything. Very sad, and I'm sick of seeing dog owners like this be idiots.

I have a large strong dog, and he has big teeth. Regardless of how much training I have done, I know for a fact that if he wanted to harm something - he could. He has a great temperament and has never tried to bite. However, if he tried it would be hard to stop him. Being a responsible pet owner means that you understand what your pet is capable of and use precautions to ensure safety for both your pet and others around them.

I've had two Malamute timber wolf crosses. We knew what we had, and they were never off leash. Pit bulls, worse than wolves, will attack. Leash, leash, leash, leash.
@daianajurca41068 ай бұрын
Exactly, that's how everybody should think. I own a Rottweiler now. Before her I had another Rottweiler and a Tosa Inu. I know what they were capable of and didn't take the risk. Leash and muzzle every single time we went for walks, even before the new laws came in effect here. It's lucky that in the States you only have a Leash Law to follow. In my country the state has classified the dog breeds according to their disposition for aggression. Group no. 1 are considered the most aggressive and has the exact breeds you might imagine: Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Tosa, Mastiffs, Cane Corsos, some of the big Shepherds etc. By law, we who own these breeds are required to register them with the local Canine Associations and also the Police, so there is an evidence of them. Also, it is forbidden to walk them in public without a leash and a muzzle, irrelevant of how friendly they are or we risk huge fines. But most important, this measure saves the lives of other animals. So it is shocking to me when I see these cases where they are required to do the minimum and leash their dogs 😮 That's it, all she had to do and those poor pups would be alive today. Smh .

I live alone with my 74 year old mother, and half of the day I'm at work in an area where we've had breakins. The responsible and logical thing is to get a guard dog that will discourage any attempts. The important thing is to understand the breed you have and prepare accordingly.

That's so sad the dog had a heart attack and died after being attacked, I, myself have a senior English bulldog that has medical issues she's my baby I don't know what I would do without her so I sympathize, some people are irresponsible dog owners they shouldn't own any. Although I sympathize with the fact that she had to euthanize her dog and that she has children she should have kept her dog on a leash to begin with. People need to start taking responsibility.

Most pitbull owners are in a delusional world of their own, excuses and sob stories of "my dog would never" ect. So i actually applaud her for taking accountability, showing empathy, driving the lady to the vet, paying that first vet bill and then coming to the conclusion on her own she had a unfit dog. Give credit where its due. But it all could have been prevented. The saddest part is an innocent little dog minding its own buisness, in his golden years, died in such a way. Sad case. Sad for all.

I had a client with a Standard poodle, one day we were training out in his front yard with the dog on lead when his neighbors pit bull came barreling down the street towards us - I'm saying "let's get your dog inside", the owner said "I've fucking had it with that dog" and turned his St. poodle loose. That poodle did a dance around that pit bull like nothing I've ever seen - it was so fast and so agile; bite a leg, leap over its back and bite another, dash around and a bite on the butt, fly over the top of it and bite a front leg ... after 10 seconds of this the pit bull beat feet back home with the poodle hot on his ass. Funniest (and luckiest) thing I've ever seen. Now if that pit bull had of gotten ahold of that poodle ... different story, poodles have twigs for legs, but that dog was so damn fast the pit didn't know what hit him. I know he had some serious punctures. After the poodle came back from chasing him home, the owner tells me that the pit bull belonged to our town mayor 🤣, said it had been tormenting the neighborhood for 2 years and the mayor knew it and wouldn't do a thing about it. After that day, I was told the pit bull was never seen running loose again!

No denying that 16 is getting up there, but apparently the defendant is unaware of the dog that had its (confirmed) 31st birthday before passing away last year. While it doesn't happen often, dogs seeing near 20 is not out of the question. I've had two that saw 19 and in good health (for a 19 year old), I've met a number of OLD dogs in my day. Even if that Dachshund only had a year left (and it didn't have cancer, that was made up by the defendant), what dog owner wouldn't relish in every moment of that year? And who's to say it wouldn't have seen 2 or 3 more years? To refuse to pay the vet bills because the dog was old ... what a douchebag. She cost two dogs their lives, since it didn't seem to hurt her conscience, it should at least hurt her wallet.

I don't think she should've gotten the full $5000 if the standard is what a reasonable person would forcibly pay. Most people don't have thousands of dollars to shell out for their geriatric animal like that. I don't think she should've gotten more than half of it. That being said though, the defendant said she only paid $300 which to me is a absolute pittance Considering the situation. I think her $300 plus an additional 2500 is more than enough to meet the criteria of reasonably foreseeable expenses. If she had to keep bringing her dog back over and over again, she should've realized that the situation was hopeless, and if anything if the vets kept telling her oh yes it's working it's working it's working they should not have done that and they should be culpable for misleading her.

This case is just crappy all around. It could have been prevented if the defendant had her dog under control. Having said that, this whole situation is crappy. I don't think the defendant is a horrible person. She truly felt awful about what happened. She took responsibility after by having her aggressive dog euthanized (a decision that is not easy at all). As a veterinarian, the decision to put the dog down was 100% the correct decision. Yes, you can say that the defendant should have just paid the bills without needing it to come to court, but I also don't blame her for wanting that mediator given the dog was older and had some underlying health issues. Especially given the dog had been improving and then declined, how is anyone (but the vet caring for the dog) to know if the dog passed from the injuries or the underlying cancer. Liver cancer could also cause the dog to not eat, feel crummy and pass away. Those wounds inflicted on that little dog are awful, it caused so much skin and tissue to die and slough off. It takes weeks to months to heal wounds like that and during the entire healing process the wounds are at risk for infection. I am glad Judge Milan called the vet to get a better understanding of what happened and what the dog passed from to make a decision here. That is what needed to happen. The hurt present in this case is just insane. Both the defendant and plaintiff lost pets. Both witnessed a dog attack which if you have never witnessed one, I hope you never do, it is horrendous. There is definitely trauma after witnessing a dog attack, so both parties are dealing with that. Just a crummy case across the board.

Defendant: You wanted to euthanize your dog to get off the hook. Your dog didn’t need to die. You were irresponsible. You learned nothing and made two dogs suffer horribly and die. Milian: in terms of reasonable person status, the photos speak for themselves.

Alot of comments are about pits or big vs small dogs. Can i just say that just because your dog isnt big enough to put me in hospital, i dont want it harrasing, chasing, jumping up at me or biting me. I also dont want to hit it with my car. Can ALL dog owners please take equal responsibility? You might think your little pom is the cutest thing but i dont when its trying to chase after my 50k dog and im trying to stop your dog from getting swallowed when she decides shes had enough
