To be clear, I worked as a chef. If you want to know if the calamari is legitimate or processed, just ask the staff if it is prepared fresh or precut, boxes and frozen. Many places, you are eating the actual body of the squid, not just a punch out of a sheet of processed squid

Gloves aren’t any more sanitary than bare hands. Hands might actually be cleaner so long as the hands are properly wash beforehand.
@xyexАй бұрын
The reason they don't have gloves on for the prepackaged sandwiches is because it's more sanitary than a glove. You'd need to change gloves way too often if you wore gloves, and people wouldn't do it enough. Going gloveless, washing is really quick, easy, and more likely to actually happen (and cheaper). Also, yay, prize cards! We need someone to use the eat with me card on the chef who makes the punishment, lol.
@Bagelboy61529 күн бұрын
Honestly, it’s food safety 101 to maintain hands that needed to be kept hygienic to the utmost quality to prevent food or airborne illnesses. However, if it is going to be prepared as “Ready-to-eat,” foods, then there are different laws for different states. Most require gloves for RTE foods and some don’t. Where these people live, California, does not mandate gloves for RTE foods.
@chiarastilinski969028 күн бұрын
In italian a Squid is called 'Calamaro', the plural is 'Calamari'. This comes from Europe, so probably that's why they are called that way.
@Dimensionhopper520Ай бұрын
Fun fact When it comes to food handling, non gloved hands are actually cleaner than gloved hands. As in most places that handle food, there is usually a strong hand washing policy. Gloved hands should only be used when handling raw meat or if one has injured themselves. But, even then, before you wear gloves you HAVE to wash your hands and have to change them every 4 hours or when changing a task. It is common for people to forget to switch gloves, causing the gloves to accumulate the pathogens that are now on the glove

Re: hotdogs... If the idea of eating pink meat paste is gross, consider that you can easily buy a meant grinder and make your own hot dogs, and you would have total control over the ingredients. Process is basically the same as making sausage, only with different spices/seasonings and you'd need to re-grind the meat a couple extra times to reduce the meat's muscle fiber lengths to smooth out the texture. Also, as an aside, if you have a meat grinder you can make your own McRibs any time you want - only _much_ better tasting - by grinding up boneless pork ribs and bacon in a roughly 2:1 ratio by weight and adding your favorite pork rub and barbecue sauce. Grind/mix thoroughly and drop in roughly 2/3-cup scoops onto an oiled hot skillet or griddle.

@bernieburton652027 күн бұрын
@fawnhill9461 much of the current the high cost of food is a direct result of the high cost of fuel for transportation. There's also the high cost of things like bacteria and virus outbreaks which requires destroying tons and tons of meat and produce. If a company/farm has to destroy livestock, recently eggs have nearly gotten 4 times more expensive because of bird flu, then food becomes more expensive. Companies will always pass any potential losses onto consumers. Companies exist solely for the purposes of making profit for investors.

No, cows are not kept constantly pregnant for five years, before being butchered. First off, they're given breaks between pregnancies to let their bodies recover. Longer breaks than is strictly necessary: A cow's body enters a state of being able to get pregnant again about a month or two after giving birth, and in the wild, a bull would absolutely be right on that as soon as she started showing signs of being technically ready again (This is actually *bad for her,* because while she's capable of getting pregnant again, her body hasn't fully recovered, so complications are much more likely.); while domestic cows are given three or four months between a birth, and the next insemination. Secondly, the "five years" number is just a straight up lie. While a cow's milk production does start to drop off after five years, she'll still produce enough milk to justify keeping her around for an additional three to five; so actual dairy farms keep them for eight to ten years. "Cows can live up to twenty years" is also a lie, it's actually more like sixteen to eighteen. But, yes, it's true. There's no denying it. Once a cow becomes too old to produce milk efficiently enough, she will, indeed, be butchered into meat and other products. But would you prefer they just dispatch her and toss her carcass out, for it to rot? At least this way, her death becomes meaningful.
@DaZebraffeАй бұрын
Oh, as for "I don't ever want to meet a cow or a pig, because I heard they're really smart!" I can't speak for pigs, I really don't know about them...but I can assure you with 100% certainty that no, cows are not, in fact, really smart. More like really *dumb.*
