Try asking the real questions instead. Like 1. Do you think city did financial cheating to get to where they are? 2. Do you think if you are not backed by huge transfer budget early on in your city career would you have built this juggernaut of a team? 3. Will you still manage city if they are proven guilty and relegated to championship? 4. Do you think city should be stripped of the Titles if they are proven guilty of financial fraud? 5. 6. Others can pitch in.

Ibrahimovic used to mockingly call Guardiola "the Philosopher." He meant it negatively, but I think this interview really highlights a key part of how Pep works. He seems to really rely heavily on flexibility and is willing to change on a day-to-day or moment-to-moment basis -- as long as he personally thinks that change is needed. I think some players prefer a style of man-management that is more consistent and easier to predict. For example, Ibra didn't like it when Pep would promise one thing and change his mind right before the game, regardless of how Pep tried to justify it as necessary to win. That said, I think "The Philosopher" is quite an apt title for Pep. He's clearly thought about the game on a deep level, and is at the point in his career where he's comfortable living his version of football, regardless what others think. The fact so many great players he's coached have nothing but good things to say about him, is also nothing to sneeze at.

Props to the interviewer here; she really asked some great follow on questions and you could see Pep was really relaxed! This is my favourite casual interview of Pep I've seen. I love how Pep's Catalan style of working shows a much healthier brand of success. There's so much bs online about "grinding" and effectively destroying your health to achieve your goals, but if anyone's ever tried doing that over an extended period they'll know how phoney it is - your body will eventually force you to stop and slow down, and it ends up being counter-productive in the long run. Finding a way of working that works for you; that allows you to be well rested and enjoy the process will sustain you for much longer than grimly trudging the path of self-abuse. Success in any field is never guaranteed - you could get hit by a bus tomorrow, or any number of things outside your control could happen. If life happens and you find yourself unable attain the goal you near-killed yourself in pursuit of, then what was it all for? Trying to enjoy each day will mean you'll have loved your life either way, and still be able to live with no regrets.

Most coaches work insane hours early in their careers when they’re young and hungry and still learning. But later on, especially with Pep’s level of success, they have so much knowledge and experience built up that they don’t need to work quite as hard to continue getting good results. For example, Steve Spurrier was a very successful American football coach, and he was famous for usually going home at 6 PM each day when most of his peers worked 18-hour days regularly during the season. His thinking was that if you didn’t get any planning done by 6, it was probably something that could wait until tomorrow. Pep has reached that point where he can put his mind on cruise control and not have to grind like a younger manager does to survive.
