City always struggle against teams that play low block and counter at pace. As Pep said Chelsea play with 5 at the back and 2 defensive mids. The wing backs provide width and they have fast attacking players. If Chelsea opened up the way City did, they'd lose pretty comfortably. I say this as a United fan, who has seen United beat City more often than not these past 3 seasons playing a similar counter attacking strategy and know that if United open up City would win.

It's cool to see managers like Pep who are real passionate about the tactics of the game. You can tell he spends plenty of his free time thinking about it and doesn't obviously just see it as his job. Which is also I think where he can sabatoge himself. He is a world class manager and the formation and team selection he put in was the right call, he tried to exploit the space in between the wing backs and the lcb and the rcb, many people think pep made a mistake , it wasn't a mistake , the best formation to face teuchel's formation is 4-3-1-2 with a central midfielder not a defensive midfielder , that is exactly what pep did , the only thing teuchel did was tell chillwell and James to stop mahrez and sterling from making those runs through those spaces however sterling got the better of James in the first half which he should have scored and he missed , sterling was the cause of city's defeat , that was supposed to be the first goal then teuchel shouted at James and he got stuck to sterling from there on, so mahrez and sterling became ineffective hence rendering the formation useless, tactical awareness from teuchel that is all

When you have two teams that are evenly matched and there's a bit of a stalemate from two solid tactical set-ups and organisations... what makes the difference? The players, the match-winners. Pep didn't lose to Man Utd several times because his tactics were bad; he lost because our players delivered some big performances and moments that made the difference. City could beat Chelsea and overcome these resilient tactics of Tuchel if just one of their players made a quick decision to help them break past the barrier and resist their pressure. Tactics can be amazing, but there is no tactic in the world that can't be overcome with some quality from the players on the pitch (or just one of Tuchel's players not being fully switched on). It only takes one moment.

Comparing tuchel to simeone is disingenuous. Chelsea smothers teams with the ball and keep the majority of the possesion in most of their matches. They did the same against athletico in both legs of the cl clash and simeone's side could not even counter attack. Tuchel plays with 5 in defence plus Kante, you can say whatever you want but you know Tuchel is not a show football coach and Guardiola is. I'd bet what would beat Tuchel in 7 out of 10.

@@imgettingold9407 I'll tell you something, I'm Spanish and a Real fan, with Zidane we have won 3 Champions League in a row, but I don't think Zidane is a better manager than Guardiola, honestly. That Barcelona that we suffered so much in Madrid was a steamroller and they did not win 2 Champions leagues in a row and had a better team and a better coach than Real. It's just my way of seeing and understanding football, I admire that philosophy and people who die with it.

Yup ..thats a nice plan...stones,Dias and ake..all ball playing centre backs...coz if u play three centre backs ..then there will be lot of attacking options from the back..as this formation will be really helpful as half of the time gundogen is strictly marked by his opponents ..specially when he plays in deep...would also cut-off the load of the players like de bruyne or grealish or Silva... So my city 11 would be Ederson(gk) Stones Dias Ake Walker(rwb) Cancelo(lwb) Gundo De bruyne Grealish Mahrez(st) Foden(second striker)
