I use tea made from grass cuttings for nitrogen. Banana skins for pottasium and kitchen waste for compost, I put the compost in shallow trenches and cover with soil in the late autumn. I don't buy fertilizer, just to save money . I put plastic pipe tubes into the ground beside my plants to water the roots and use less water that way. Works for me !

I was worried about overwatering at the beginning because the soil about an inch deep was darker then the surface but not really wet realized I was actually underwatering after I bought a moisture/ph sensor. Then when I looked up how to water pepper plants I was still underwatering them. I live in a dry, windy hot always sunny environment here in west Texas. I use fabric pots on top of that so the water really doesn't get deep and stay.

the yellowing leaves and drops started happening as the loaded pepper plant's fruits are just starting to show signs of the start of ripening... and based on this video... I guess I need to provide more nitrogen to the plant.. I have cal-mag that I use once a week, but the directions mentioned every single watering, so I'll do that and add in a squirt of fish fert for good measure. lets see if that helps and doesn't slow or stop the fruit from ripening.

Great Videos every time! I know my peppers ( 3 sets of true leaves) are over watered (poor drainage). I noticed they are still green but they droop and they have not grown in the past 2 days. Thank you so much I appreciate your videos .
@PepperGeek

Sounds like you may want to repot if the soil they are in doesn’t drain well. Or, if the pots don’t have holes, it’s best to have at least one to allow excess water to drain after watering. If it’s just a matter of one time overwatering, repotting may not be necessary, just let the soil dry out and water less

I'got some little living black dots underneath my leaves. They've been yhere for a couple of moths alreade without causing any problems. A few days ago some of my pepper plant's leaves started yellowing though. I live at a colder clumate though and the temperature could have dropped below 10 or even 8 degrees celsius when the plant was out. I suspect this yellowing is due to the cold as it's happening away from the black living things, high up in yhe plant and random. Brought the plant inside. Hope it's fine. Thanks Pepper Geek!

My pepper have no bugs. All the bugs are interested in is my kohl rabbi. But my pepper has now 4 peppers growing, is huge plant, and a few leaves are yellowing…again. Last time I mixed in water crushed eggshells, yogurt, epsom salt, and fertilizer and it greened back up in 24 hours. Go figure. I tried just the calcium and doesn’t look like much changed. I will now try the other things one day at a time to figure out the cause. Something just leaches out after a few weeks in my container. But the leaves do get greener again.

A fish kelp emulsion with a little molasses goes a long way. Lots of nutrition in there. A little Epsom salts now and then too should cover most everything. I read that giving a struggling plant thiamine helps it overcome, just like with humans. It helped leaf curl a LOT ☺️. A week transplant will sometimes just not ever fill in.

if your plant is flowering/fruiting and gets yellow leaves, is it still a good idea to idea to increase Nitrogen? I always thought you needed to lower Nitrogen at that stage and increase potassium??
@PepperGeek
@PepperGeek 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Yellowing leaves doesn't always indicate a nitrogen deficiency though. It could just be that the leaves are aging and dying off, which happens naturally. Also, the plants still do require some nitrogen, just less of it to avoid overly-leafy plants. I wouldn't go nuts with the nitrogen during fruiting, but make sure the plants have some.

The plant is in the ground and is producing, probably has like 10 peppers growing on it and is about 2 feet tall or less, the branches are growing long side ways too. I fertilize it with miracle gro made for fruit production every 2 weeks, should I switch to a higher nitrogen? I have general purpose miracle gro as well that I use on my small key lime tree

They started rough and light green but it seems after awhile they out grew whatever it was and are no producing normal dark green leaves. What I’m not understanding is that they are in a flat with 12 more plants(other varieties) and they aren’t having same issues. What could be causing this to happen with ONLY the scorpions? Also, how soon can I start using my fox farm bloom? I’m currently using neptunes harvest and agri grow. ( not at same time). With a higher npk. Will this get them to kick up the growth faster?

I have white spots on my stems that looks like a sprinkle of salt or sugar of a distance. Could it be a fungal infection or something else?

Hmm..could just be natural trichomes or hairs, or it could be pests (maybe scale) or disease. Hard to know without seeing

Help. I have pepper seedling in plastic cups under grow lights . They were doing fine until one morning they were all wilted and dying. What did I do wrong?

Hmm, drainage? Don't make the soil soaking wet, and they might also need better aeration. We have a video about drooping leaves!

Thanks for such a detailed video. I sowed the pepper seeds in a plastic yogurt box a few months ago as an experiment and then surprisingly they did very well in the beginning, then I moved them to a bigger yogurt box and they were doing fine until I repotted them into a bigger clay pot and they stopped growing. They are shedding leaves and the stem is turning brown. The leaves are shedding from bottom to up and I don't know what is the issue. Leaves are not yellow or curled and neither do I over water them. I live in Germany and there is not enough sun for many weeks in winter but I think if sunlight was the issue then they wouldn't have been fine in yogurt boxes and they survived indoors when outside temperatures were very low during those times. Please tell me how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Did you switch the soil medium? Sometimes if it is not well-drained or you compact it too tight, the water can become trapped and drown the roots. On the flip side, when it dries out, it is hard to re-saturate. Not sure that this is the cause, but could be a culprit.

@@PepperGeek Thanks for replying. I did change the soil this time. Earlier I was using the soil "Blumenerde" which is for flowers and this time I used "Bio-erde" which is like the organic soil in English (but now that I noticed on the packet it says it is for herbs like Rosemarine and Thymine). Do you think this could be the issue? Which soil would you recommend? Other than that I did not stuff the soil too tight.

Hi A few weeks ago I put my pepper plant 🌱 on my windowsill for about an hour and went out. When I came back the plant had shrivelled up so I removed it put in in the bathroom it’s cooler in there and watered it. Within a few hours it had recovered the leaves full of life again only then did I notice that some of the leaves were burnt turned white. I remove one of them just to see what would happen and left the other on. My question is do I prune off the burnt leaves or not. I first planted the seed for this plant in mid March, it was growing well in the small container I made from a cut in half water bottle but now that I have move at to a larger container as it got bigger ( I could see the roots against the other container) it feels like it’s taking forever to put out new leaves in two weeks it’s barely done anything.

You don't have to prune dead leaves, they'll die and fall on their own. Give them a slight tug to see if they are loose, if they pop right off, then there ya go

How do you deal with pepper plants with a serious powdery mildew infection (about 90% leaves infected)? It can be dealt with by chemicals, but I don't want to use those; so, does trimming all the infected leaves and spraying it with a baking soda solution helps? Or should you just choose seeds that resist fungi from the beginning? Professional pepper seed vendors are rare in my region, not sure if they'd label the product as such, at least I've never seen one.

Yes, I'd use the baking soda method - about 1tbsp in a gallon of water and spray everything. I don't think it will remove any of the mildew but it can help slow the spread significantly.

How often should pepper plants be watered?
@PepperGeek

Depends on the heat and sun exposure - hot days will lead to much faster water usage by the plants. It also depends on your soil's ability to retain water. Good way to know is to lift potted plants and get used to the weight of a dried out plant/freshly watered plant. You can also feel the soil 2-3" below the surface for moisture.
