I tried horticultural vermiculite this year, wet the medium, place in shallow tray ,sprinkle snapdragons seeds.. placed on heat mat three days later 90% germinated. Then I just potted them up. I put three Per cell. I was taught it from an old gardener. What a blessing.

Wow! Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to try that.

Snapdragons or strawflower?

First thing I noticed is you're wearing white for seed starting! 😂😂 I'm filthy in the first 2 minutes

She speaks the truth on the need for heat. I get away with starting a lot of flowers in my chilly basement without heat mats, but it didn't work with strawflower. A very small percentage germinated. Going to try again upstairs where it's warmer.

Love the earrings! As a Coloradoan, I have to say that Colorado is a great place to go for vacation. Thank you for a very informative video.

I grow strawflowers for the first time last summer and I dry most of them. I’m Planning to grow so many more this year 😊 they are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. ❤

This was so helpful as you clarified why I hear conflicting info on whether strawflower is cool hardy. Thanks!

Do you know if these flowers okay with direct sowing? I live in Florida where it gets hot and extremely humid and random thunderstorms during the spring. Thanks!
@PepperHarrow9 ай бұрын
This is not one that does well with direct seeding, because it’s a slow grower that won’t outpace the weeds.

Thanks for this v interesting video. What tape/pen do you use for your labelling, my labels always seem to fade and disappear 😂

I always have a horrible time getting the purple strawflower to germinate. I have tried several packets from different seed companies. Is there a trick to getting this color to grow?
@PepperHarrow9 ай бұрын
There's not a good trick. It might just be that some colors have poor germination rate, especially if they carry recessive traits, like unique colors, shapes, etc.
@ElderandOakFarm9 ай бұрын
I have trouble with every color but I usually don't use a heat mat. I'm going to try that this time. I've tried 2-3 years now, but haven't gave them a good fighting chance, i havejt put too much effort into it... I'm going to try harder thos year, & put on heat mat, & If that doesn't work, they will get cut from the grow plan. Things that have this poor of a germination rate, just are not profitable.
