The true power of the Black Panther Party was the fearlessness and courage of these great youth warriors and their selfless love for their people. That made them unable to just stand by and allow this genocidal oppression continue against our people, and not make an attempt to stop it. Their power was not in the gun. It was not in their militancy. It was not by creating fear. It was in their fearless love for their people, and their fearless determination in fighting to free

THANK YOU FOR THIS DOCUMENTARY! So many good memories! Late 60's early 70's I was a white guy living below Broadway in Oakland, neighborhood about 80% black. I wasn't a political activist but was politically aware (pretty easy to do during that area with political activists and so-called "underground press" being generous with information that contradicted the mainstream narrative). I knew what the Black Panthers were, and it was a breath of fresh air. I knew what the Oakland cops and the Sheriff Madigan's thugs were, too. You didn't have to be black to grasp the fact they were the enemy of the very people who were paying their wages. After all, oppressors want to make sure that you understand that's exactly what they are. No secret. I used to walk right past the front door of Panther HQ on the way to the Shattuck bus stop. Only thing I was worried about, is what if the Pigs decided that was the moment they were going to blow Panther HQ to kingdom come in a hailstorm of bullets, and I was the guy on the sidewalk. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, a well-regulated militia being necessary for the security of a free State. That idea didn't fall out of the sky, it was how things were done in an age where the modern concept of a municipal police force was almost nonexistent. If there was a problem that required civil armed intervention, the sheriff deputized citizens to take care of it. The Second Amendment said nothing about the specifics of the custom of the sheriff deputizing citizens because the Constitution came hot on the heels of the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence. The sheriff is an agent of the Crown. And the new American nation was mostly rural with government nearly absent in many areas. So people did things for themselves. That's how I viewed the Black Panthers, and still do. And it was so much more than just a well-regulated militia. It was deeply involved in actually DOING good in the community, and they didn't ask what color your skin was to be a beneficiary of what they were doing. I often wonder where on earth did vision and leadership like that come from. To say "Merrritt College" doesn't really answer the question. I know of nothing like it either before or since. There were several things that contributed to the possibility of it happening. First, the Vietnam War opened people's eyes to the fact that the USA government wasn't really about promoting democracy and making the world a better place. It was killing for profit and lying about everything. .........Then there was the ongoing Civil Rights movement which opened many peoples' eyes to the injustice of segregation. There was a synergy between the anti-Vietnam War movement and the Civil Rights movement, a recognition that there's ruling class and they're amoral sociopaths who oppress because, well, that's what they do. And in the Bay Area, San Francisco being an international port was a long-standing ethnic melting pot where no matter who you were, you knew personally people of other races. By that time, some black folks who'd been in the Army had gone to college on the GI Bill and there were black folks in professional including administrative positions. And don't underestimate the power of music. Rock & Roll didn't fall out of the sky. It began as "race music" that white kids heard on the radio, and liked it. And what's its very foundation? the Blues. A musical form invented by black folks in the USA probably in Texas logging camps after the Civil War. It did not come from Africa. And it's so catchy that once you've heard it about 3 times, from then on out you know it. And yet there's so much possibility built into that series of chord changes, that the variety is infinite, it's a door into a different world of music. ........In the arts, nothing substitutes for talent, and in the postwar period popular music was a mix of black and white. The place and the time were right for something like the Black Panthers to happen, if something like that could happen. And somehow it did. ADDENDUM more on how the ruling class oppresses because "that's what they do", and skin color is often a just smokescreen for how they do it. The South was ruled by white politicians who enforced segregation and thumped Bibles. So whites voted for them. What they never understood, was that it was the oldest trick in the con man's arsenal-- misdirection. The South was and still is impoverished because white politicians were and still are ripping off the very people who voted them into office. The Bible Belt is a specific piece of geography in the USA. That same piece of geography is the poverty belt, the prison belt, the "education is bad" belt, the maternal death rate higher than any developed nation belt, the "cops are city hall's thugs" ["law and order, and the badge is law"]" belt, the list goes on and on. It's all cut from the same cloth. After the end of legal segregation, the whole thing morphed into "the Christian Right". One of the first things I discovered in life as a little kid, was that the adult world is governed by delusion. So I paid attention and asked difficult questions. It took me most of a lifetime to understand how and why the world is governed by delusion. However I knew from the time I first discovered it what the main ingredient was: adults will pay to be lied to. So of course there are people who make a living by telling people the lies they want to hear. The people get lied to, and they're happy they got their money's worth. That's how rule by delusion is done in plain view and people still don't understand what's being done to them and how.

Thank goodness for the movement, because so many people benefited from the meals provided to the community. I’m in the south of Georgia now. I would love to see a revival here. Some of us have forgotten. Some of us have fallen asleep. The drugs, the alcohol, the foods, the sex, the technology is being used to keep our children focus on things that don’t matter. The adults are losing ground and we need to focus on getting the priorities straight, or else all hell is going to break loose. Watching this video is a wake-up call to the nation and to the world. Don’t let history repeat itself. 😢

Barbra Lee, thank you for your service. Times are changing, who would have ever thought we would ever be 5% of the total population. The history of how we got here in the Bay Area. Thank you for telling this story, even during our declining years. Our time in the Bay Area is very short now. The last family Panic I remember when Everyone was still alive was in “Moss wood Park”, I think the “Tower of Power” was giving a free concert. Many drive by the Original site of Merritt College and don’t know what the building was or what it meant. If you ask someone where Merritt College is they immediately point up in the Oakland Hills, no one now’s why it was relocated. Barbra Lee, it was a shame to watch the base that supported you for years just walk away. They said good bye with their votes. The 21st will erase this time in history by pretending it never existed. I was born at Herrick Hospital, I am Berkeley. There are just a handful of people left from my generation that still live here in 10yrs we will be lost to History. It’s a sad fact, and very painful to think about. I am glad that I was raised in this environment. It’s not a gun, that protects me from the Police. It’s my mind my mentality is my strongest weapon. One thing I miss, is the relationship the Black Community had with the Japanese community. Those early Japanese people that where here before us . They endured every heart ship, and now their legacy is almost over. Tracy Hamada, was a classmate of mine in the 5th. He is one of the handful of people left here in Berkeley. I will always be his friend.

Kelvin Torrence some of them are still here! You just have to seek to find them. We have learned from our past mistakes. But coming from one who was there to see the good, bad, and ugly of this struggle, the real one who you really need to seek is Almighty God and HIS Messiah. God and His Servant are the only ones who have the Understanding, Wisdom, and Power to defect Satan, and his world of evil. All others have failed because only a Divine Solution, can solve a Divine Problem sir. PEACE!

“The diversity in the human family should be the cause of love and harmony, as it is in music where many different notes blend together in the making of a perfect chord. If you meet those of a different race and colour from yourself, do not mistrust them and withdraw yourself into your shell of conventionality, but rather be glad and show them kindness.” ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

@@bobbyjohnson8968 all black okay each one teach one? Each one teach one here is a very old Jewel of knowledge to pay for that how what where when and why will tell you any and everything that you need to know for any technical it will tell you everything you needyou don't even have to know the basics but be careful with these questions they are very powerful and very old just because you use the words randomly doesn't mean that they won't harm these words are like a nuclear energythey can be used to cook and warm or they can be used to destroy totally and utterly use them would respect love and kindness if you deviate it's on you and not necessarily when you use those words in tandemthe power does shoot out for lack of a better way to put it and you can hurt others and it will boomerang and come back and get you so what I mean with love and respect I mean just that and nothing less if you tell anyone else the six powersand how to use them make sure they use it with love and respect many of the things that those powers do are absolutely and reversible to the point of financial despair and even death. With these words that haven't had to ask anyone for but whenever I do desire it makes it much easier to and it gets easier every time you use it

When I first heard about COINTELPRO, I thought it had to be a hoax. Then I saw evidence and knew that it was true. Aoki was likely NOT an FBI informant, but was painted to be so to create dissension within the Party.

djtjtoo 72 All of the people you named are great men (especially Kwame Ture ...formerly known as Stokely Carmichael from Trinidad). But it doesn’t change the fact that the Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland, CA, in 1966 by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. I could pull up an endless number of sources that proves this. But here’s just a few .... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Panther_Party , which states: “The Black Panther Party (BPP), originally the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, was a revolutionary socialist political organization founded by Marxist college students Bobby Seale (Chairman) and Huey Newton (Minister of Defense) in October 1966 in Oakland, California.” www.britannica.com/topic/Black-Panther-Party nmaahc.si.edu/blog-post/black-panther-party-challenging-police-and-promoting-social-change www.blackpast.org/african-american-history/black-panther-party/ Like I said earlier, I could easily post 20 or 30 more sources at the drop of a hat. This is well known history, that the group was organized and founded out of Oakland in the 1960s. There is no debating that! Let’s cherish the history of these intelligent and fearless brothers and sisters ........... not rewrite it!
