Best one at icast 2016 hands down. price, all the little attentions to detail (handle off to side in the back, spot for powerpole or the river stick, the two boxes up front with wire management for fish finder, etc.) definitely buying this instead of a hobie for 2017

Ya behind the seat I'm talking about a flush mount on the right side opposite of the steering contol

I don't remember it being transducer-ready, I think you'll have to rig it separately.

@LarryTalbot_13138 жыл бұрын
I've always heard that they are locked into position. I can't verify this, but if its true, it would be like hitting something with a regular boat motor. I'm not sure if the blade pins would shear off though.

@gpi19557 жыл бұрын
if you haven't already got one definitely look into the vibe sea ghost...best bang for the buck...comes with rudder, paddle, and four gear tracks, Boat is very stable and not a barge to paddle around. I owned a ascend and sold it the second I got to try out a sg130. best decision ever

I'll be doing my best to get my hands on them to do some on-the-water reviews once they come out.
@blakeboyd96438 жыл бұрын
hey Robert you seem to know everything about yaks and i'm thinking about selling my 10' future beach discovery that I bough from Dicks sporting goods for $300 about half a year ago. I want to upgrade to a 12' for better hull capability and going in the ocean with it. I was thinking about the pelican catch 120 or the perception pescador 120. I just got back from the beach and the woman at kitty hawk surf co was really trying to sell me a hobie mirage drive and she even said point blank that wilderness and all these other companies are trying to catch up with hobie's innovation but I just cant afford it. What would you say?
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
Well if you can't afford a Hobie, then what's there to think about there? Takes that one off the table. The Catch 120 is a great boat for $750. If you look at the Pescador, get the Pescador Pro for $850. Much, much nicer than the regular one that's about $500. Either of those boats will work great.
@blakeboyd96438 жыл бұрын
Well i'm only thirteen and i need to know if this new perception pedal drive is worth me saving up for or if i should just go with a normal kayak
@joelmorris43678 жыл бұрын
That's a sweet boat but why no rod holder on the right side. When you land a fish you need somewhere to put your rod.
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? There are two flushmount rod holders on both sides, four total. You can also rig up aftermarket ones anywhere you want, like the Railblaza Starport IIs that I rock on my yak.
@rhdjdmda68 жыл бұрын
I gotta admit that's alot for your money. I might give up my hobie for this lol. but is the pedal drive removable for transport?
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
You know, we didn't find out how easy it is to remove it completely. It did look very sturdy in the "up" position, and it doesn't draft at all like that, so I think it'd be fine to transport it like that. I'll find out how it comes off entirely and report back.

Hey! Love this boat. Looking for something that's versatile in the ocean and lakes. Able to travel longer distance. Robert, is another style or brand that has a boat that can do this? What kind of trade show is this? Is it an outdoor show or boat show? Do you know if it comes to Vancouver BC? I really want to get right fishing Kayak for me. Thanks so much!! Love the pedal Kayaks too.
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
This show is not open to the public, you have to be an industry guy. This is the least expensive pedal drive, but I don't know if I'd trust it out on the ocean until I try it. I use a Hobie Outback, which is more expensive, but it does really well offshore as well as in lakes or rivers. This boat could do both well too, but until it comes out and I try it, I can't say for sure. I'd look for a kayak retailer near you and demo one, almost all of them offer free demos. Try before you buy.
@toppin71145 жыл бұрын
Robert Field have you had it out in the ocean yet?
@The1985zFinest8 жыл бұрын
When you consider a hobie PA 14 is like $3300... This price sounds not bad.

Yeah, and I mean you're definitely getting more kayak for the $3,300, but at almost half that price, this one was very impressive.

definitely plan on getting this yak after convinced my self I was gonna buy a hobie , the only thing I'm disappointed in all the videos I've watch is there no more in depth about the storage ,the hatch i the back for example ,does is go full hull or what ?and the two hatches in the front can't tell how deep they truly are , biggest selling for me is storage, I personally wish they would had made a front hatch instead of open as the hobie has ! love your videos ,maybe pat more attention to detail on also the little things !
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
Yep the back hatch does into the hull. The front hatch doesn't. The benefit is one less place for water to get into your hull. The downside is storage. It's always a trade off, but I agree with you, I prefer more storage.

@djroomba19308 жыл бұрын
Lol 1799 isn't really affordable
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
Well affordable is a relative term, but what I meant by that is it's about $500-1,000 cheaper than all the others. So compared to them, it's affordable.
@emtp10138 жыл бұрын
+Robert Field Hell yes this is very affordable, the hobie outback runs $2399, so yes, very affordable.
@LarryTalbot_13138 жыл бұрын
Affordable if you are rich, definitely. For the average poor fisherman, such as myself, they are "reachable," but still not "affordable." The average poor guy struggles hard with anything over $500-700. This is why Pelican and Wal-Mart kayaks are so popular. Around here, there's a ton of them on the waters. Its like a convention on the weekends!

"affordable"
@Rscmgw238 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm saying. These people must make 100k a year or something. I'd like to know what the production costs are to make one of these high end kayaks that get marked $2700+.
@p-dub228 жыл бұрын
$1799 for a pedal drive is somewhat more affordable than a Hobie Outback and a lot more than Pro Angler series. The drive system and seating appear well thought out. Looks like a lot engineer has gone into the prototype and appears more refined than the Wilderness System coming out.
@east_tex_will82648 жыл бұрын
+Rscmgw23 helluva lot cheaper than a 30k+ plus fishing boat.
@Rscmgw238 жыл бұрын
+HyJinX ... A 30k fishing boat yes. However, I picked up a complete 14' alumacraft jon boat with trailer, 9.9 merc, 45lb min kota edge, seats and standing platform, Lowrance 4, lighting with 2 marine batteries plus other random items for $1100. Seems to me why pay such high retail for these pedal yaks if you can buy a boat on craigslist for less than half of their mrsp? I only want one for shallow/small rivers which makes it hard for me to justify the pricing these manufacturers put on them. They are nice though, don't get me wrong.. I just think they are way over priced for the average Joe.
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
Everything's relative. When all the other pedal drive boats are in the $2,800 range, this one is much more affordable. A $1,799 investment for a watercraft that will last you a decade or longer is affordable to many people, but obviously nothing is affordable to everyone.
