Perch are beautiful fish and such lovely fish to see in the net, definately my favourite species! Great video. I'm sorry that ground baiting is all but universal now. In the days of my youth we would collect rod with fixed spool, float, hook and weight, a tin of bait (worms from the garden, or dough with anchovy paste as the magic ingredient) and head on. I guess the only versions of the hobby that doesn't use ground baiting of one sort or another are spinning and fly fishing! Sic transit gloria mundi 🙂

@fishingtailfilmsАй бұрын
@@brianreed1451 I have caught Perch on all types of floats small or large. If they are present and hungry they engulf big baits. I use big floats for big baits. I have had Perch swallow 4 inch deadbaits on big float tactics and the complete opposite of tiny pole floats on double red maggots using tiny hooks. I guess it depends on what mood they are in. Fishing small rivers for perch you need to be mobile. Perch are very nomadic. I'd never take all that kit to a river. One rod and a landing net. If perch are about they will hit straight away. I would drop shot with worm or use soft lures jigged in the margins. It's so much more exciting, covering more ground and more fish. Nice film but you'll get more action on the hoof.
@fishingtailfilms12 күн бұрын
@@chrismckechnie1911 Very true Chris if the river has many options. However the river I fished offers very little in the way of swims to fish. Many of them are fast shallow rapids and I doubt perch will be located in them to be honest. As I said on film I have never really tried this section of the river for big Perch so fishing the swim I was in has a deep hole so thought it worth exploring. There are no further swims to my right as the river is overgrown with steep banks. To my left the next swim is in the next field. I had to go through 4 gates and a mile walk from the car park to fish where I was. Drop shotting and lure fishing does not appeal to me either, watching a float is more exciting to me. Thanks for watching the film Chris, much appreciated 👍🐟🎣
