Lin was great as Hermes. The character doesn't appear until book 2 but I think this was a smart change because it added more context to the story and the characters (particularly Luke) for the non-book readers. Some of the information in this ep doesn't pop up until later in the books but for a show I understand rearranging some details helps with context/plot establishment and foreshadowing. Anyway, I'm really enjoying your enthusiasm for the show! Fingers crossed for a season 2 announcement soon...

I REALLY appreciate how much effort the A Listers put in to their rolls in this show. Like let’s be honest this isn’t marvel, it’s not Harry Potter, it would’ve been easy for them to not take it seriously and just phone it in (looking at you everyone on secret invasion) but from Edge to LMM to that creepy guy that plays Dionysus they’ve all absolutely killed their rolls. Like I don’t think I’ve ever been hoity toity enough to use the term “inspired” but Lin Manuel Miranda gives an INSPIRED performance as Hermes it’s fuckin awesome

@@AstroAvengerThey completed filming less than a year ago, and editing took most of last year. Kids around that age hit puberty and suddenly grow like that. That was always a risk like Harry Potter.

I have no doubt they will announce season 2 soon, this series has been incredibly well-received, both in positive reviews from even the people that have some criticism (most people saying "I have to criticise X but overall the series is very good taking everything into consideration") and has a good number of viewers (both the fandom and a lot of people that didn't know about Percy Jackson are watching it). So I have no doubts season 2 has already been greenlit, they are just waiting to announce it.

We did actually see a Zebra. If you go back to when the animals are free, you see the zebra in the background for like 2 seconds. As a book reader, I prefer the book version of this episode but still a good episode. Percy driving the cab is so funny 🤣

I know a lot of people who read the books were disappointed that there were adults and kids in the casino cause in the book the casino traps only kids but as someone who read the books I'm okay with this change

That's actually false. In the books it's both a hotel AND Casino. In the books the kids were directed towards the hotel part of the casino were they took a shower and changed clothes and played games. But there definitely were adults at the casino it wasn't just kids. It's literally called the LOTUS HOTEL AND CASINO. In the show they only stayed at the casino part because they went there looking for hermes. In the books they simply followed a suspicious man into the hotel because they wanted to rest and they got trapped there. People were mad because they didn't get to see the kids have fun and because they didn't play poker face for some reason.

I mean you can see a zebra running beside the truck I believe once they cut to the scene with the animals on the street. Ofc its not that noticable but still. And in the books again its not like they themselves took the zebra in into the truck, they still rode with the animals until Vegas. The titles r just a nice touch for the book fans, they might not be too literal.

Great reaction, glad youre enjoying the series! Lots of amazing stuff this episode. A few of my favorites: - The lotus fruit in the air thing is also a reference to Casinos pumping pure oxygen into the air to keep the guests there, so it works perfectly with the Lotus eater myth. - Other guest have been there for a LONG time. If you look at the cars in the parking garage, they are from all different eras like classic cars and stuff. - Grover wanting to find Pan and restore the natural world is like his dream, so the hotel tempted him to stay by making him think he was close to finding him (like the other Satyr) - Also I like how Poseidon was actually going to meet Percy, had to leave because the war, but still left an encouraging message AND a gift to help him save his mom.

This was such a fun episode. I really love all the changes they have done. The changes give more development to the characters as well. I love how they were aware of the lotus flowers bc of the myths(since they r trained for such things, Annabeth in particular since she was preparing for her first quest for years and for Percy being prepared by his mom at least with the stories) but I really loved how they still got caught into the trap bc they were convinced that u had to eat the lotus flowers for that to happen. Its really so smart to have them being pumped into the air rather than have them actually suggesting the flowers to ppl. I think its more messed up having the scent of it because eating something can be by choice again and again, but having something in the air itself is more forced and there's literally no consent in it. I love how they portrayed that. Can't wait for your reaction to the next episode.

You were spot on with the episode titles, they come straight from the books as chapter titles and are often puns that only "technically" are accurate. Like "I become supreme lord of the bathroom" meaning "I nearly get my head dunked in a toilet, but my water powers kick in instead." Lol

Fun fact in the book. Percy is the one who figures out the lotus and he's the one who snaps everyone out of it. Also in the animal track percy figures out that he can talk to horses by talking to the zebra. And in the book , the reason for the deadline in the first place is because poseidon and zeus have essentially already been fighting and if the bolt isn't returned by the summer solstice they are immediately throwing hands. They don't have to prep because they've been prepped for months. That's why it was so essential in the books, that percy gets the bolt to them before that happens.

This show really makes sense if you watch all the episodes all together and not wait for weeks. I mean there's a lot of lore dumping so going in with a deep dive makes sense the most. And I think it's totally worth it since the show so for is not really overtly suspense.

I was so down on this episodes. The casino is my fav part and idk it was strange. (Loved the car scene though i felt 10years old laughing like an idiot). I think its just that the one before got me so hyped.

Yes, in the books he returns the bolt just in time, but the thing some book readers are annoyed by is that not only have they missed the solstice in the show, in the books the gods are creating absolute chaos, and yet there’s NO evidence of this in the show. Like, there’s literal hurricanes and shit in the books if I remember reading/hearing correctly. Seems like such a weird choice to have them miss the solstice, and yet no war/chaos going on in the world

​@@nickcollins5191yeah i was pissed about that too. like the bad weather started way before percy ever got kicked out of yancy and it just got progressively worse. but ending the solstice here they just rendered the deadline useless like why was it there in the first place if poseidon and zeus are "going to marshel their forces" AFTER the fact. that was the point of the deadline that they were ready to battle it out the entire time but just gave each other enough courtesy to wait until the solstice incase the other wanted to surender and the likes and they would IMMEDIATELY attack once the deadline surpassed. in the books the moment they come out of the casino and realise that unlike before how they had enough time to get the quest done they only have like a day left now, shit goes from 0 to 100 and i LOVED that sudden switch cause it was so reminiscent of adhd procrastination behavior.
