I'm really enjoying this adaptation. The actors are all doing so great capturing the characters and it's really driving home that /they're kids/. Sometimes reading, you don't quite remember how young they are and it makes you hate the gods all the more that they're making these poor children do all their dirty work for them!

About the part with Gabe sprouting the prophecy is actually in the book if I remember correctly. From what I recall the oracle showed Percy Gabe at his pokertable and each person sitting there sprouted a line of the prophecy or so. Honestly I reread the books just a bit ago and already forgot that part again and was like “huh?” myself when I saw Gabe appear in the prophecy mist. 😅 Edit: I love the fact that the monsters outside in the daylight all seem to be of monsters. Which Medusa reinforces when she talks about who she is. But then down in the basement you really see that there’s lots of humans. So she might be the things she said but she still hurt a lot of people.

Book reader: I like the series but I feel that they have toned down the fight scenes. For demigods are always at risk of dying. At least Medusa could try to grab hold of him instead of just standing still. Everything seems fine until a battle begins, like there is something missing, i don't know what that is but something doesn't click. Because if there's one thing the Percy Jackson books were good at, it was danger and suspense, more than fear.

Medusa was on the fence, for whatever reason. Percy was Poseidon's son. Athena's daughter was present as well. She kills them, and if angered by the action, Athena and/or Poseidon will end her easily.

I think the reason she stands still is because her next move was to either wait him out or force his eyes open with the snakes. She's smug about this whole thing bc of how easy its been in the past and how she's lost her mind gradually over the years. I think the fight scenes will build up more like they did in the book. They are less trained than they will be in the future so their best move is to kill the monsters as quickly as they can.

Tbh when I think of fights scenes in the books, when it comes to monsters, it's always about the wit to get out of the situation with as little combat as possible and figure out/remember smth about the myth that could help in that situation. True combat is always between demigods, gods and whahtnot, monsters usually fade away in dust as soon as they're hit w/ celestial bronze anyways

And he gets even funnier in those crazy dangerous situation..the show leaves us hanging, like the bus scene it just cut off into them walking in the forest...the thrill was gone and they move on to the next.. the show is faithful to the books but I don't think it's hitting the right beats... I love how the characters are portrayed the acting and the writing is quite good, like how Percy is shown to be calculative this early, I like his reason for choosing Annabeth. Cause in PJO he's always mistaken for naive and goofy character.. his smart side was highlighted much in the later series..here shown to be smart but not overlapping Annabeth's role as the smart/wise one in the trio ..

is it the smartest decision for percy to leave medusa like that? no. but hes a 12 y/o having a woman tell him that shed like to turn his friends into stone bringing up his “dead” mother … yeah ofc hes freaked out n leaves. its also very integral to his character to not even hear her out when she suggests he betray them. hes big on personal loyalty the suggestion offends him

Disney sure went to great efforts not to show Medusa’s severed head in this episode. I get that it’s targeted as a kid show and that might be going too far but the ridiculous lengths they went actually took me out of the show a bit.

I agree. The whole cast (so far) is amazing but Walker as Percy is just incredible! Actually, both in the show/movie and the books, Medusa is the first "boss" the trio faces and they get of rid pretty quickly. "Why pick him?" haha well from what I remember from the books, the Oracle has a wicked sense of humour, so Gabe, he is Percy's stepdad! Being a daughter of Athena, Annabeth was born to be a leader. Her flaw is she thinks her way is the only way forward. You can see that she is hurt when Percy says "I couldn't imagine we'd ever be friends". Yeah, it's gonna be quite a challenge to get to LA in under a week, but it's gonna be fun! Yes, that is Hermes, he is the Messenger of the Gods, so makes sense he delivers their mail personally. Love Lin-Manuel Miranda, so cool to see him here. They made changes compared to the book (Medusa is a more complex character). I loved this episode! I'm so glad they kept sending Medusa's head to Olympus, it's an iconic Percy moment! As a book reader, I'm most hyped about next episode, it's one of my favorite chapters of the 1st book! Yes, it is St Louis! PS: In the movie, Percy used the back on an iPod. In the book, he used a sphere. If you look at a reflection of her, you won't get turned to stone.

"You have to do some stuff wrong to succeed" this is spot-on. Annabeth has lots of knowledge and plans but sometimes you need Percy's outside-the-box style of thinking to get stuff done. They all have their strength to bring to this team--Percy is street smarts, Annabeth is book smarts, and Grover has emotional intelligence.

Medusa's body would have disintegrated just like the minotaur or Alecto. Some monsters leave behind a trophy, like the minotaur's horn. In Medusa's case, it's her head lol

I have never read any of the books this I think is both a good thing and a bad thing because I enjoyed the Lightning Thief which I have on DVD and hated the Sea of Monsters Where I must agree with everyone that Percy's brother has bad FX on. The eyes or eye here I am also in agreement that these are a better telling of the Lightning Thief love the fact that Percy doesn't know that he is the son of Poseidon till the end of capture the flag in the second episode and love the way they felt with Medusa in episode 3 can't wait to see how episode 4 go's

Nora Allen, what are you doing here? 😆 She did great. Loved her performance, and I appreciate that she wasn’t exactly portrayed as a black & white villain straight away. This is probably my favorite episode so far. The team dynamics & conflicts were good, and it was necessary to address them move forward. It’s also probably the first episode that people like me who’ve only seen the movies will start to see big differences. I’m looking forward to this season unfolding even more. I had the same reaction to them only receiving $200 for a week long cross-country trip. Out of everything, that’s the most unbelievable 😂 Question to those who’ve read the books: do all demigods that are not at Camp Halfblood get a stayr protector?
@heyitsmira17
@heyitsmira17 9 ай бұрын
It is their duty, yes. Usually the satyr protector comes when the kid is around the age of 12, due to this being the age in which they are most likely to start being smelled and chased by monsters. That unless you're a kid of the big 3 (Zeus, Poseidon or Hades), those kids face more dangers and harder challenges earlier then the usual demigod. I've seen exceptions though, with certain demigods here and there being found a bit later. And ofc there must be demigods who unfortunately don't make it to camp, or manage to go on in the human world untracked (usually if you're the kid of a minor god)

Good episode, tho I wish the opening scene had an actual set-up cos it feels so random to just suddenly be in that attic. They coulda had the last episode end with “but first you must speak to the oracle” or something if they really wanted this week to start here. I do wish the show explained some of the rules like how monsters work in this world cos we already have Mrs Dodds return after Percy killed her in ep 1. I remember it being explained when I read the first book but even if it comes later in the book it woulda have been good to have it here for the show. And I get why they skipped over the full version of the myth since it's on Disney Plus (at least in the UK) but Annabeth was right. Medusa left out some details on why Athena got mad lol (obviously Athena went the psycho route in response cos Greek god)

@@davidflores7181 99% sure, in ep 2 I believe Grover corrects Percy by saying her Greek myth name, “Alecto” I think, which they used exclusively in ep 3 for the fury with a speaking role (the character’s also played by the same actress who is fairly well known). The book gives a simple explanation for why this can happen and I’m surprised the show just hasn’t said it yet. It’s one of those times where I’m like “guys it’s only one maybe two lines extra, it won’t derail the pacing” and am mystified they didn’t do it
@heyitsmira17

I mean, some people were already complaining that there was too much exposition and "telling, not showing". Percy showing up in the attic and telling the oracle that he had to go there bc it is required for the quest was already a "show, don't tell" moment, which I believe everyone kinda understood
@sonicsean34
@sonicsean34 9 ай бұрын
@@heyitsmira17 I can definitely see that, it's just that I found this particular example to be very jarring (honestly I think the first two episodes should have been three episodes cos some stuff was rushed and it might not feel as expositional if there was more time to breathe )
@TheIndianDeity
@TheIndianDeity 9 ай бұрын
I agree with you, though I’m pretty sure Grover says “Monsters don’t die, death doesn’t stop them” as they show Alecto this episode, so they explained that monsters come back after death.
