The scene where Medusa told the kids her tragic backstory is a real highlight for me. Kudos to the screenwriters to use some of the historical accounts that she is a victim of rape (which is only vaguely implied in the book since it's based on Percy's POV), making her more of a nuanced, sympathtic character than an outright villain (I'm looking at you, Uma Thurman).

Honestly, Lin being here might seem like a miscast but HAVE YOU SEEN THE HAMILTON PROSHOT!? Spoilers . The way Hermes was acting over Luke and the state Alexander was in after Philip’s death? Lin already proved he can play the grieving father FANTASTICALLY, and he’s got enough of a fun uncle vibe to play regular Hermes. He’ll do great, imo. Just give him some time to stretch his legs.

It goes back to the Greek tale of Medusa and how she was a high priestess to Athena that not only allowed herself to be seduced by Athena's rival but to allow it to happen in a temple dedicated to her.
@phoenixcoffee93439 ай бұрын
The episode gives the child friendly version of what Poseidon did. Some sources say it was consensual, some say it wasn't, but most sources agree that Poseidon and Medusa made love in Athena's temple and Athena wasn't a fan of that.
@vodkamutini39799 ай бұрын
@@cerberus01 In greek mythos Medusa was never a high priestess of anything nor was she human. She was born a gorgon alongside her two sisters. What you're talking about is the Ovid myth, a roman poet known to have problems with authority. I honestly love the telling of Medusa’s story. More modern retellings of the story show Medusa as a victim of sexual assault but the show keeps it more in line with how Poseidon acts in most myths. The hate for this episode, I've read every single book at least seven times and I loved the hell out of this episode. Medusa does not seem to properly get a lot of love and is needlessly blamed for being a monster. She is a person who was hurt by one god and mistreated by the other. I loved her. Not to mention , in the book, all of the children were very stupid about Ms identity. I loved the twist of them being pursed Alecto and her sister.
@MasterZeus949 ай бұрын
The thing with Medusa is interesting, considering the most famous version of her story is not Greek. The whole context/backstory of Medusa being a disgraced priestess of Athena and/or an assault victim was made up by the Romans, more specifically Ovid. In the original Greek sources, she was always a monster.

Persy said the name of Annabeth so spontaneous it was I would say both a strategic choice but also quite in the romantic sense even if it's early enough for that because he said with so much conviction and then given what the oracle said of course he chose her but it's the fact that he put so much energy he didn't even wait for Chiron to finish speaking in fact and then he could have chosen to say Grover's name first since it's Grover that he accompanies until now but in fact no he said the name of a girl who has known like two episodes so for me, there is clearly romance

This episode highlights why i think it was a bad idea to alter Gabe from truely horrible, to a bit of a jerk. The gods can be monsters, what Poseiden did to Medusa was monsteous, what Athena did was even worse. But for a demigod? Well they know Medusa the gorgon, she gets slayed by heroes, thats the point, thats who she is, its easy to hear her tell her story and say "youre lying" What Poseiden did to Sally Jackson is monstrous. He broke the pact with no thought for anyone but himself and then abandoned her with a young baby. Sally suffered through Gabe and that relationship to protect Percy whilst Poseiden did nothing. He called her a "queen amongst women" to Percy and did nothing to help her. The gods can be monsters and Percy understanding that through Sally is the only thing that could make him 100% believe and understand it.

I see what they were trying to do, but I unfortunately have really mixed feelings about this episode. I understand deviating from the books a bit, but this episode was really NOTHING like the books? What was the whole discussion with Alecto and Medusa? What was the whole “Percy choosing annabeth because he can never see them being friends” dynamic? The gnome emporium wasn’t anything like I imagined (why was Alecto there??), and the interaction/fight with Medusa was completely different and felt a little bit cheesy to me. I’m honestly left feeling really confused, because this scene was as book inaccurate as the movies and this was supposed to be a “book accurate” adaptation. I’m .. hoping that they don’t continue to stray from the books like this because this episode definitely fell flat for me :/
@terrellthaddies78679 ай бұрын

i like it. i think they had alecto there because they needed some reason for staying since they made the kids know that it was medusa which also makes sense because they are smart especially annabeth she definetly would have figured it out. and i think the percy choosing annabeth because he cant see them being friends adds more to their relationship and will show how much it changes over time

Fun fact: the idea of Medusa as a sympathetic figure is relatively recent. It was brought about by the poet Ovid, who was exiled from Rome and, as retribution, began writing poems that portrayed the gods as asshats and the mortals as their victims. Hence the tragic tale of Medusa, a priestess of Athena who had sworn to celibacy and was assaulted by Poseidon, and then Athena did the classic victim-blaming.

I have some mixed feelings. I think the series is not what I thought it was going to be. What I thought it was going to be was an exact copy of the book which I was rlly hoping for. This version seems more fantasy and little kiddish but it still isn’t bad. My main issues are Chiron wasn’t talked to enough and annabeth needs to like Luke that’s pretty much the whole point of the first series besides that it’s alright I guess I just wish it was excalty like the book

why would u want an exact copy? lameeee also its supposed to be kiddish there 12! and u never know annabeth might still like luke they just didnt show it when they were leaving camp

well it cant be eaxactly like the book because this is a show and writing is much different than producing. also you need to realize that the book is infact a kids/teens book so its not going to be all action all the time. the show is also being shown on disney channel where any age (mainly kids) will be watching so it does have to be age appropriate. I do want to know which parts you where more kiddish and fantasy (even though this is a fantasy book/show). also i do wish we saw more of annabeth liking luke aswell.

@@zoeyneish no they aren't doing that luke/annabeth thing, Luke said annabeth is his little sister, and the show is focusing more on percabeth in the beginning rather than annabeth having a crush on luke in the beginning

I understand what youre saying, but i almost feel like its a little ignant for anyone to expect a tit-for-tat adaptation of any book to movie/tv series. If you want an exact version of the book, why not just re-read the book? Again, no disrespect. Ive just gotten tired of people saying they wanted a 100% book accurate adaptation. That sort of thing is basically impossible no matter how you spin it

I guess you haven't been looking at interviews, 1. they can't make it EXACTLY like the book, that's just not possible because of runtime/money/production and it would be boring if they made it exactly like it. 2. They are focusing more on percabeth that's why they made Luke and Annabeth more like siblings 3. they are 12 ofc their going to act like children
