Episode 4: I Plunge To My Death Percy, Annabeth and Grover were on the Amtrak, seeing centaurs and the nemean lion. Suddenly, something crashed into the trio’s cabin, so the police investigate this case. Our heroes meet a young woman carrying her pet dog in a dog carrier, whom they realize she’s Echidna, the Mother of Monsters. The “dog” produces a viper head that bites Percy, poisoning him in the process. Then trio escapes to the St. Louis Gateway Arch, with Echidna and the monster pursuing them. When they reach the top, the monster is revealed to be the Chimera: it had the head and front legs of a giant, scaly lioness, the horns and back legs of a giant ibex, and the viper head that bit Percy is its tail. Percy dodges the chimera’s fiery breath, only for echidna to create a hole with the snap of her fingers. Percy tries to fight the chimera with Riptide, but due to the venom, he’s forced to jump down the hole, where he’s saved by Poseidon, who used the water of the Mississippi River to drag him in. Percy soon realizes he can breathe underwater, when he’s told to breath by a nereid.
