As one person put it, “It feels like the trio went back and time and did it all again with the knowledge they still had.” It’s like the books, but not.

Some of the little things that I found important was the majority of Annabeth’s character. It kind of makes her seem like she’s just there. I didn’t see her fighting to prove herself, her relationship with her dad, the things that scare her (like the spiders), and her love of architecture. With everything gone that really made her character, it made it seem she was only there to be an eventual love interest for Percy. I couldn’t get myself to like her character in the show because there wasn’t much of a character to get to know
@Doomzdeh6 ай бұрын
Not to mention they spent all their time trying to make her out to be this cold, unfeeling, ridiculously-amazing warrior. The fact that Luke tells Percy that Annabeth is the best at Camp, only for Alecto to later speak to Annabeth as if she’s some sort of equal, is just ludicrous. The original story worked well. Annabeth was a traumatized child, just as Percy and Grover were. She didn’t need to be made into some badass for some feminist bonus.
@MickeyMouse-6726 ай бұрын
@@Doomzdeh Right? In the books she wasn’t necessarily looked down apon, but she wanted to go on the quest as a way to prove herself. She wanted that desperately and thinking she was capable leans into her fatal flaw of hubris, thinking she can do better than everyone else if given the opportunity. Her being picked just because Percy thought she’d betray him for the quest didn’t sit right with me.

I didn't like a lot of things about the show, things just felt cheap, mediocre and half baked versions of the events in the book. However I hated Hades the most, he's meant to be the god of the underworld, not the god of nice, gentle adminstration guys. Wheres his skeleton armys with M16's and his terrifying presence
@Ana_Dakkar8 ай бұрын
Exactly! Hades was one of the Gods Percy respected without hesitation. He was truly scared of him and knew he could be dangerous if he wanted to. He didn't just outright go and say that he wanted his mom and if he had done that, he would have been one of the captured souls on Hades's cloak. He actually was respectful to Hades and promised to get his helmet of darkness back before he escaped from his army
@IchigoKurosaki07157 ай бұрын
I think it's supposed to subvert expectations in this way. Often, Riordan tells the story in a way that shows that the God of the Underworld isn't evil because that's what he governs

Exactly. To quote “he was the third god I had met, but the first who really stuck me as godlike”. He was not godlike in the series. He was like a secretary, and it really disappointed me

I haven’t watched this video yet but I have to say the one thing that I didn’t like about the show was that the trio knew about the monsters when they encountered them instead of the kinda “there could be a monster anywhere” theme in the books

@Doomzdeh6 ай бұрын
- Percy almost never got to show any fighting skills. Most fights and deaths ended because of clumsy accidents. That really tears down any note of confidence that Percy had, and it takes the thrill and danger out of these moments. - Annabeth is way overhyped. She shows pretty much no vulnerability like she did in the books, and, for some reason, Alecto speaks to her as if she’s a serious threat to her? Why? Did 7-year old Annabeth somehow duel Alecto? Ridiculous and unnecessary. When Percy spoke to Annabeth, I always felt like he was speaking to his boss. I shouldn’t have been thinking that. - Grover was unnecessarily slandered. Not only does he betray Percy’s trust, but we get like no characterization from him because he’s really not the focus of anything. If they’d just included him more in the first episode and shown more of his friendship with Percy at Yancy, I could have accepted that. As it is, he isn’t really Percy’s friend and he doesn’t have much use on the journey. Should’ve brought Luke.

I overall liked the show. Note I never judge a media adaption based on the source material as what works in print does not work in on screen. Still I think overall as a show its a great introduction for new comers to POJ and to Greek mythology. I think Riordan could use a lesson from King or Gaimon when it comes to screenwriting as the two have had more practice at it. Overall this is better than I hoped. Could be worse look at what is happening to Avatar the last air bender?

I totally agree with you. They should have given more attention to detail. But the thing I think we need to appreciate is that they put in the wild centaur scene which is one of the minor yet important details in the book. We should give them a chance to improve in the second season and to tell the truth, the lightning theif is kinda my least fav in the series and I really hope they do better in the upcoming seasons

I really liked the show!! I have watched all ur vids talking about how the show could be different. But at this point I think that it doesn’t matter bc the filming is over, and the show is already out. Also bc Rick said that the kids were rlly tired and there was such a high demand for the show to come out that they had to cut some scenes or decided to not film some specific scenes. Also yes. I have read the books. (No hate though! It’s just my opinion❤)

I thought about all of these sorts of things while watching the show. However, I reminded myself that Rick Riordan himself was involved in making these changes, so they wouldn't have done it if he didn't agree. (I also reminded myself how bad the movies were, which made me more appreciative of this.

I didn’t mind it to much exept from ep 7. I hated that episode with a passion
@Nargon468 ай бұрын
I loved everything in Episode 7 except Crusty (felt unnecessary if they weren't gonna have him be a threat in the slightest), and Hades. Not even Hades himself, while I don't personally like the characterization considering its so different from how he was portrayed in the book (and I don't see him as being the father of the people on the wrong side of WWII if you know what I mean), I could live with it if it felt like Percy and Grover were in ANY danger while in his presence. I understand wanting him to be chill and save the heavy, scary stuff for Zeus (who was perfect imo), however, when he's asking for the Bolt after finding out Kronos is back, his whole demeanor should have changed. He should have been asking, he should have been demanding. When the boys use their pearls to escape, I don't feel any urgency. I don't feel like Hades would or could hurt them if they don't give him what he wants. What sucks is that it could have been so easily fixed by having Hades summon like, five guards when Percy refuses to give him the bolt. You don't even need to have them in undead makeup if it's too expensive, just a few more of the dark armored guys they had at the entrance. Have them bust in, brandishing spears, so I feel like the boys either need to accept Hades' offer or use their pearls and escape NOW. I don't feel like Sally is in any danger being left behind either. Clearly, Hades isn't going to kill her, and there isn't a lot of tension about Hades not returning her after he gets his helm back because I don't get the feeling this Hades was angered by Percy's escape. Of course he's gonna return her, this Hades is very reasonable and doesn't have any interest in keeping her around to prove a point. Like I said: Keep the whole episode the exactly the same way, except at the end, once Percy refuses to give Hades the bolt in exchange for sanctuary, have Hades snap his fingers and summon half a dozen guards with spears at the ready. When he says "I'm not messing around here, kid." SHOW me that he isn't messing around. SHOW me that Percy will die or worse if he sticks around and doesn't hand over the bolt.

Honestly, the first clip in this video summarized one of the biggest misunderstanding this show had about percy's character, Percy is sarcastic and sassy true, but he isn't a jerk, nor is he rude. there's no way book percy would ever disrespect thalia's sacrfice by making a joke about it like this show does. In fact, book percy has the highest respect for thalia and her sacrifice to the point that winning against a minotaur is nothing compare to thalia

There are definitely some things I didn't care for in the show, I absolutely agree with you in that the gods don't feel dangerous most of the time and that is a big one for me, but honestly on the whole I thought it was awesome, especially compared to what I thought Disney would turn it into. Hoping they are given a bigger budget and learn from the complaints to make season 2 even better!

I actually liked he show. I watched every episode with my partner and my siblings, however this video is exactly what i was thinking! When we watched it I would pause each part that wasn't correct and explain what really happened during me pausing it or commercial breaks. With the tin can thing, I'm sorry but parents should be parents and teach their kids not to eat effing tin cans. I watched big hero 6 as a kid and i didn't try to blow up an establishment with bombs and robots and shit.
