We Tried Every SOURDOUGH in San Francisco

Love me some Acme bread sour or sweet, it’s delicious. Used to walk through the Boudin parking lot every morning on my way to work, the baker would wave and I’d wave back, then one day he gave me the come inside wave and gave me a warm sourdough batard fresh out of the oven, have to say I have a special fondness for that bread thanks to the nice baker. Thanks for the memories 💕

I grew up with Acme and still love it but Tartine has definitely been my new favorite as of late. It’s because of Tartine’s texture that I think it makes the best toast with butter. It’s a perfect slice of heaven. Tartine’s classic sourdough loaf is definitely more “sour” in taste and smell.

I never knew that crab went so well with sour dough until I tried it there. Now every time I have crab, I think about sour dough. Just a perfect mix.

For me, Acme reigns supreme, but that might be because Acme is centered in Berkeley, they have a retail shop at San Pablo Ave and Cedar Street, and I have lived in Berkeley for many years. I don't get into San Francisco very often. Acme's Sour Loaf is gorgeous and delicious, one of my favorite, perfect for slicing, toasting, for sandwiches, easier to chew than the Sour Batard and just as gloriously sour. I love so many of Acme's breads though, hard to pick a favorite. They have excellent prices if you buy directly from the small retail shop, but be prepared to wait in a long line because they are so popular.
