They actually have a lot of great design items on their website to provide plant pairing, plant recommendations, etc based on colors you select as well as types of plants that may fit your growing conditions. I just go a bit beyond that. Maybe I’ll do a video on Proven Winners design options on their website because some of them are buried.

Yarrow can be divided easily. I have lilac and white yarrow and it looks pretty around roses or any perenial flowers. Also white swan echinacea is a lovely white perenial which is drought tolerant and again, it can be divided and grows very upright and smart. Have you thought about any ground covers to suppress weeds? I use alot of lamium, blue flowering ajuga and port wine (dusky pink and deeper pink coloured leaves). They are great under roses to supress weeds and retain water. Loving your choices so far....so much to look forward to. Exciting to plan and watch.

Looking forward to watch you build this new garden, and thanks for the heirloom roses coupon! I bought 3 this past summer after hearing you mention them in an earlier video. Very impressed with how they arrived and performed for being babies. One of the climbers, Awakening, grew to about 10 ft. tall and had 3-4 blooms after only being planted in August! It's in a part shade situation which this rose is labeled as shade tolerant. Definitely recommend them!🌹

Hello, Margo! I love your choices, Matthew. I added back in black sedum and opalescent phlox last year. I’m adding the peach sky yarrow as well this year. Going to try it near my At Last rose. I’m also adding purple rooster monarda, little Joe Joe Pye weed, daisy may daisy, midnight masquerade penstemen, and a few shrubs. You need to check out golden jubilee hyssop for your garden. It’s chartreuse with the purple blooms. Very nice. It does reseed in the garden. I can’t wait to see your garden in the spring.

Do you find that the Serendipity alliums hold their heads well over winter? They seem to disintegrate for me where Millenium (sp) holds them pretty reliably until I cut them back in spring.
@SouthernersGarden11 ай бұрын
Hi, Erin! So I went back and looked at some winter footage I had taken last year because I have never thought of alliums to have any type of winter interest in my garden. Mine always looked pretty ratty pretty early and died back quite a bit. I didn’t see any blooms on the Millennium or Serendipity allium where I’m at - even in late December. Maybe yours are much more established than mine and hold their bloom heads a bit better? It would be interesting to know what causes it!

Happy that’s it’s winter now and I have to time to catch up with my favorite KZbinrs! Interesting idea to use photoshop to design your garden. I admire the gardeners who plan… I’m the definition of impulse buy then squish it in somewhere. Im trying to be more intensional tho. Especially in my brothers orchard which I’ve got permission to beautify with flowers.

Margo and Lilly are both English Springer Spaniels and they do have excellent coats! This has been my first experience with the breed and I’d recommend them for about anyone. They’re so loving and affectionate and good with strangers and children. I’ll have Lilly in my next video, but she’s not quite as lazy as Margo so she may not stick around the whole time. 😂

Good morning ... I took notes .... and yours is all going to be beautiful ... I have a question ... Have you ever had an experience with Barberry Sunjoy Neo .. ? ... I have been reading that it draws and / or harbors Ticks ... I am in central Ohio and needing to put a bed together and thought that this plant might work so now I am not sure ... Thanks for any input that you might have ... !!!
@SouthernersGarden11 ай бұрын
I’ve not grown Sunjoy Neo specifically, but I have grown others in that collection. I wouldn’t be terribly concerned of ticks if I was you to add one. I think the tick concern comes from the fact mice can tend to nest in them because it provides protection from all of the thorns against predators and the ticks come from the mice. Neo is one of the smaller varieties, so I think you’d be fine as it wouldn’t provide much protection to any animal. Note Japanese Barberry, like neo, is classified as invasive in some areas but can still be sold in Ohio. Our neighbors next door cannot sell it in Indiana. ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/anr-0106# Proven Winners does have some sterile barberries, like Todo, that would not be considered invasive.
@shirlenehigbie567711 ай бұрын
Thanks I did check out the info that you left . I am redoing an entrance way to my neighborhood and was considering the Sunjoy because of the color . A few years ago the landscapers that got paid for this job put in Burning bushes every two feet next to a really nice white fence . Yelp just think about that one . I will be removing them all . So the board wanted color in the this area and that is why I was considering Sunjoy . I do now think that I will pass on it . There are so many other plants to work with .
