@@bit_ronic that's probably because of his understeer preference. Since he doesn't have to focus on the rear sliding, he can fully commit to those high spee sections knowing the rear will be stable. It takes a lot more confidence for a driver like max or leclerc (or the mercs with their rear instability issues) to be as committed. Glad he finally found a balance he likes in this car.

@@purwantiallan5089 To be honest, Perez did not have a great 2021 either. I think people overstate how well Perez did in 2021 quite a bit. Out of the two top teams, he finished last, 36 points behind Bottas and only 25,5 points ahead of Sainz. And that's in the fastest car that season. Perez has done a better job in the races so far this season than he did back in 2024. Hopefully, he can keep up that form!

@@Yes-vh7lm well, he lost 15 points by retiring last lap at Abu Dhabi, the Hungary retirement was not his fault, I wouldn't say it was a bad season for him since he fullfiled pretty much all the requirement RB needed him except maybe beating Bottas, Saudi was the main cause of his failure that year

I believe it’s as Alex said: at the beginning of the year the car is “neutral” then the upgrades come and it starts to go more towards a Max oriented style (I mean, he’s the top driver, I wouldn’t blame them) and therefore inevitably compromising whichever teammate max has. i agree for new parts & upgrades on both cars....but each driver asks for his preferred set-up..like front wing angle & rear wing..and when it comes to braking..they make their own choices through the steering wheel settings...same for engine braking...Checo could be struggling more than Max to have all these electronic settings perfectly dialed & tuned...i'm sure that Max's passion for racing games & high tech simulator brings him an edge that Checo doesn't seem to master as much...on top of all that ,reading Deutch sport mags articles it"s obvious that Max is a monster when it comes to PT (physical training) physio & mental strength program..Checo is not as strong mentally when pressure strikes...Max is just a more complete pilot & masters the set-up of his car to nearly perfection....

Max's line through chicane is way different, he cuts everything he can to shorten distance to the finish line. At the end of the exit curb on the right he is +-20 km/h slower than Checo, but it is enough to be faster in this section. Checo is using more conventional racing line "slow in - fast out", which is definitely faster in the race. It will be interesting to compare their time specific for the section from braking into the chicane till the finish line, because I think S3 also includes 130R

Very cool Perez with this confidence in the high corners, which is usually where he loses to Verstappen. We saw that in quick changes of direction, it is still slower, but in fast curves with a With this direction he improved a lot. I hope this performance stays with him on the European circuits too, he can do very well there. Unfortunately the race pace is still low

Honestly, I've never seen Checo in a Red Bull hooked up on a track like this. It's always Max with a clear advantage. While it might not be enough for Checo to challenge Max. If he can replicate this at places like Silverstone, Barcelona, Spa, CoTA.. He will have a really strong season.

The actual telemetry data shows them both at 76kph min-speed through T11.. The onscreen telemetry is not 100% accurate. They were within 0.01 going into T16-17 - Perez had a slower approach with faster exit, Perez went down 0.26 in those two corners but brought back 0.20 with the faster exit. This was the biggest difference (time wise) in the entire lap. Perez may have been faster in Degner 1, but Verstappen's slightly slower approach gave him a far better exit at Degner 2 gaining him 0.20 seconds before T13 as well. F1 tempo has all of the telemetry graphs with some awesome info.

They were quite accurate. Just in different refresh rate. Which telemetry did you get 76kph from? --Edited-- I see you mentioned F1 tempo. It uses the same api source as Perez's telemetry does. You gotta zoom in on F1 tempo's display to better find those minimum speeds. As for Verstappen's telemetry (the later part) on this vid it's another story, but it's even more accurate.

Cant really compare the two telemetries, Checkos is more filtered and lagging, deflating top speeds somewhat and significantly inflating entry/apex speeds. So they probably went very close speed wise on that degna as well as spoon, we can see it by comparing distances or engine rpms that seem to have less filtering... Verstappens typical "entry over exit" bit him in T11 where Checko got most of his advantage. So yeah, beast mode absolutely! But thumbnails kinda misleading, like they all are, sigh.

How is Max slower everywhere but taking less to complete a lap? Also, Max found time at Suzaka in these 6 months, but in some corners he was slower in stead of faster. Not happy with the setup all weekend, but just wins. Probably cruising while Perez was pushing. Is the way Perez finds speed perhaps heavy on the tyres?
