I am a 37 year old guy who has hated pop music since I was a kid. I literally didn't even know who One Direction was till Liam Payne's death. I can't help but feel incredibly sad for his family and friends, and also his fans. His death was so preventable. Please, do not drink and do drugs. I know it is hard but there are so many other ways to find comfort and peace. R.I.P Liam.

i had an ex stepfather who dealt with substance abuse. he's my sister's dad. After some time, if the person doesn't accept any help there's nothing you can do. I used to love him a lot but it's very detrimental to our mental health trying to "save" other people: this ruined my teenage years and gave me lots of mental health problems. it was understandable that she wanted to leave, it's unbearable sometimes.

Usually addicts attract unhealthy people into their lives contributing to the spiraling if they, sadly, don't make it to the first step and, by the power that be, start on a firm path to sobriety. According to what they say, the manager asked for protection since Liam was in very bad state with the drugs and causing a lot of scandals. That probably why the hotel wait to the last minutes to call 911. Even the last driver who took Liam to the hotel was called by the Argentine justice system to testify and said that he also took drugs in his car. If you’ve ever been around someone who is spiraling from drug use, you’d know that you cannot be around them for days and days on end…it’s exhausting, sad, scary, unpredictable, you’re walking on eggshells, watching them destroy themselves and you can do literally nothing. It can feel very hopeless and depressing…so no it’s not weird she needed space from that situation

At 41 years old, suddenly to a stroke. I believe this woman is coming from a place of grief and love. Anyone attacking her character right now is horribly inappropriate and honestly it's incredibly cruel. I wish all his loved ones healing and comfort at this difficult time. I hope they can feel him around them and begin to accept their lives as they are going forward in their own time. Addiction is what killed Liam. Addiction is a coping mechanism to deal with deep issues/trauma. Just like any other mental health issue, it’s not your fault you have it but it is your responsibility to take care of yourself. Not Kate, not Maya. Even if they wanted to, and I’m sure they tried, unless you have dealt with someone in the throws of addiction, you don’t realize how hard it is to get them to want to be clean. It is up to them at the end of the day. There is no doubt there are many people who failed/enabled this young man but it doesn’t mean they are responsible for his death. It’s really harsh to say but he is responsible for his death and him only. Maybe we can extend love and compassion to those around him, including Maya, while they navigate this event. Questioning their moves when none of us know the full story is crazy. If you believe Liam passed from a lack of care and compassion for his wellbeing then start caring and being compassionate to these ladies too. We have no idea what went on behind closed doors so let’s not pretend.

At the end of the day we are only responsible for our own lives and the lives of our children. He was not her child. You don’t know what was happening behind the scenes. Maybe he was becoming unbearable to be around. Maybe she gave him an ultimatum. Maybe she did alert his circle that he was in danger of relapse and spiralling, but they didn’t manage to intervene in time… unless you’re under conservatorship or in jail, there is only so much that people around you can do if you’re hell bent on self destruction. Especially if you fly to another country. Unfortunately.. I’ve been there. It’s easy to judge when you have never loved someone with substance abuse issues. You have no idea how much toll it takes. Everyone has a breaking point, and at some point you have to decide: am I going to let this person drain me of all my life energy? To traumatise me? It’s tragic. Fully recovered addicts will be the first to say that they don’t blame their loved ones for walking out on them eventually and take full responsibility for their own actions. Sometimes it’s the only thing that gets through to them. Being left and realising they may lose everything if they don’t stop.

9/10 times people who abuse drugs and alcohol are trying to escape something in their lives. Substance abuse can ease your pain, anxiety, heartbreak and personal problems. It numbs you for a time being. But, when you come down, your problems haven’t gone away anywhere. I imagine with the ex gf exposing the trials of their relationship, his record label dropping him, and other personal issues he may have had, it all was just too much for him. I do wish this new gf would have stayed with him. But, maybe she thought that his management team or bodyguards would be present. However, it doesn’t sound like they were even around him at all. My question is why? Don’t celebrities travel with an entourage of people? Which brings me to my next question. Why was he left alone? People close to him HAD to have known he was suffering badly. If hotel staff and strangers could see it, how come those close to him didn’t or chose to ignore it? The worst thing to do to an addict suffering from mental health issues is leave them alone. I’m just so sick over this whole situation.

Su***de isn't an instant action, it's actually quite a drawn out event. Your body goes into auto pilot and all you can do is watch it happen; in a sense it's quite an outer-body experience in some ways. Ironically, you would be eerily calm for the most part, until the moment the adrenaline rush starts (usually the moment of a "this is it" realisation) which ends up being an explosion of emotions all at once.

Weird take on this, and you contradict yourself in the end. Having a crush on an idol and actually dating them is two different things. Fame is alluring, and for a tiktoker it becomes more of a priority the status of the relationship than the relationship itself. The intimacy of a relationship is the equality of partners, understanding each other's problems and sticking it through together. This is just an universal truth, and the fact is that she had left concerned about her own problems more than what her partner truly required. Now obviously she is not directly responsible, but life is layered, and all these add up to the final tragedy.

The hotel should have never brought him to his room. They should have called the authorities, and let them decide where he needed to go. It's Courtyards policy never to touch a guest under any circumstances. I'm not blaming them, but they were extremely irresponsible in this situation and should have some accountability. The Courtyards, all of them have rules in place for a reason. Rules that employees have to take tests on and pass these tests to continue working for them. Everything they did was 100% against policy. You are never, ever supposed to escort, force or even help a guest to their room under any circumstances.

Just bc she said she was antsy staying there too long, doesn’t mean that was truthful. Like she’d go online and say, yeh my bf has been raging on booze and substances so I left. It’s very sad what occurred, but ultimately, it was Liam’s own making. Yes, others could have potentially assisted further/differently in some way, but no one poured alcohol down his throat nor forced him to ingest substances, so no one else should have blame placed on them for what occurred. I’m sure she’s feeling terribly as is.

she seems like she was on the same substances as him. their pupils looked crazy in every video they posted together, and she’s scary skinny. it seems very likely she enabled him. either way what ultimately happened to him wasn’t her fault. he had issues before her and would’ve had them after too had this not happened. i’m sure she’s going through a lot right now and no one should be giving her hate. if it’s true that she was partying with him, she obviously had her own issues prior to this. i hope she is able to heal, i’m sure she feels guilt even though she shouldn’t have to.

A few days before he passed he had filmed a video of himself and his girlfriend staying at a friends house. He posted it to "snap chat" the day he died. He looked perfectly fine and was planning his day and showing the inside of his friends house. You can hear his girlfriend in the background. Everything appeared to be completely normal.😢

I think it's important (especially these days) for people to see how insightfully, gently and respectfully such heartbreakingly layered tragedies can be reported on and navigated. Isn't she David Cassidys daughter? She certainly would be familiar with the meteoric rise and fall of a huge pop star. She would know how unpleasant that could get. David suffered through many miserable years after his overnight stardom quickly faded. I read his autobiography. He was near suicide as well. So possibly the girlfriend just needed to get away from what she knew was happening.

The reality is we don’t know how responsible his gf and ex’s were. Of course they’re not fully responsible. But we don’t know what went on. I have been emotionally and physically abused by several women, and it led to temporary states of depression and substance abuse. Sometimes bad luck in love and bad relationships lead to coping and unstable emotional states. I’ve seen guys’ lives completely derailed because they got with the wrong girl. I’ve heard of guys un-aliving themselves due to mistreatment from someone they loved. I personally got over it in time. But the reality is we don’t know what happened, what factors led to his downward spiral.

I still feel so bad for Liam, finding out he had an addiction to painkillers. I'm 16 and I have brain cancer and I'm at the point where I'm in the hospital I get pain medication given to me. Unfortunately it does wear off I have a thing of Tylenol 500 milligrams and I'm addicted to because it makes the pain go away until I can get the next dose if I think it's morphine or something. They have no clue when I can't even bring myself to tell my brother about it because I'm scared that it'll get taken away from me and I can't handle the pain in my face and head. I told my ex he called me a drug addict and broke up with me Which I guess I am one even though it's just pain medication. Depending on how bad his pain was and if he didn't have access to any type of pain medication I could see why he would throw himself from the balcony. But I think this was him being drunk and on medication and trying to jump into the pool. I feel so bad for him it was pain that made him do that.

My ex girlfriend was British as well and was an alcoholic and I left her because she became out of control when she drank. Im not saying all British people are like this because I dated other women when I lived there subsequently who were wonderful. Im just trying to relate to what Kate was going through. Im sure she had to put up with a lot since he probably had an ego that was at times overbearing and other times fragile and not to mention the substance abuse. If the relationship was abusive in any manner she should’ve left and maybe that’s what she did but she didn’t get into too much detail. If his room was that messed up with things broken like it was punched or hit with something, it would've been better if she wasn't there because it could've been a domestic violence case. maybe during that time he was getting too much for her to handle. not all people can handle these types of scenarios. and give her a break, the girl is just trying to making a living and working with what life is throwing at her she just so happens to have met and dated a celebrity and doing online shit was something that made her money. what was she suppose to do? should she still be a waitress while attending red carpets with her boyfriend or just be a bum and just rely on his boyfriend for everything? she would've been judged either way. life is a bit complicated, it's not just A or B. They might've also fought alot behind closed doors, if you are not super hardcore on doing drugs and your boyfriend insists on doing drugs will you stay if you know he has violent episodes while on drugs, when you know you don't do drugs yourself? and don't give me that crap of she could've stopped him. It is more complicated than that. she could could've also been doing drugs but not to that extent so she chose to leave. some would say why didn't she just call the cops? well that would've been the end of their relationship if ever. girl is hustlin and just trying to live her life with a celebrity boyfriend. It's just all too complicated. let's not put the blame on her. She's probably like all of us trying to grab every opportunity and trying to live our life while navigating through all the shit behind closed doors.
