Freestyle at this level is much better than classical chess. It leads to more decisive games when players cant play 20+ stockfish moves that they've memorized and actually have to think on move 1. You can actually lose the game in the first 3 moves if you're not careful.

Nodirbek didn't lose the game in 3 moves, he just made a mistake which gave him a -0.6 but he definitely still had fighting chances. He just failed to create any counter play and allowed Magnus to play at 99%. I mean if your opponent is playing 99% game then yea 1 mistake will lose you the game seeing how your opponent made 0... This is the nature of chess. Swings in the evaluation happen all the time, in regular chess also just later in the game, but this unpredictability and volatility has always existed in chess. Just in freestyle it starts from move 1 and not after 20 moves of theory. I myself feel like this is how chess is meant to be played, theory just ruins it.
