Such a beautiful film. I rarely walk out of a movie thinking about how it changed me or made me want to be a better human. I also could have sat through another two hours of it! I didn't want to leave him.

I am glad I found your channel. I got lost in Perfect Days. I wanted that feeling to stay with me. It's a film I can fall back into when I still my world. I have a place from my memories that I go to when life gets overwhelming, I will have Perfect Days with it's captivating soundtrack to fall into when I want to breathe quietly. Thanks for talking about the film and your feelings.

As I walk randomly on the quiet streets of my Tokyo neighbourhood on a Sunday morning I listen to you. It felt like listening to a friend. I would love to just hang out under the trees and look at Hirayama eat his sandwich with you. I watched Perfect Days 3 times already. I was also very comforted by it. Hirayama is a true Zen sensei. Now I will continue my journey by the sanctuary, slowly and alone, trying to appreciate the present. Ima wa ima. Kondo wa Kondo. Thank you.

I love your review and as I love Wenders I was looking forward to this film. As a 55-year-old bachelor, this one spoke to my soul. As the Beats would have said - Live your own individual truth.

well done. I was in Tokyo last summer, in his neighborhood near the tower. I had high expectations for this movie and they were exceeded. Tokyo and the Japanese people are life changing.

Excellent review. One of the best I can remember seeing. It fits the movie perfectly too that you reviewed it the way you did, unscripted, not intellectually based and your raw, emotional reaction to it yet you did explain quite well the story, the character and his world very well. Thanks!

Out of most of the youtubers I listened to I feel you really understood the main character's happiness the most. Thank you, your video has gone into my small collection of favourites. The others seem to be, ironically, the ones in the movie questioning the way the main character lives his life and applying it to their own values of what SHOULD make a person happy

That’s awesome, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I think I just related deeply to the character, and that’s why I carved out a discussion on it that worked. I think about this film all the time, can’t wait to watch it again on home release.

Sweet film that makes you pause and think how you are living your life or just rushing through. Scene with his sister was my favourite... he's a great actor. I bought Japanese coffee afterwards like him! I found the same brand. Saw the film on my birthday and it's a good lesson to take with me.

Two takeaways: be present for your life, be here now. Mental states are not all that different from the play of shadows and light filtering through trees.

@@WatchlistRoulette Yeah, check it out. It's the closest Wim Wenders came to making a "commercial" film. It's conceptual science-fiction, but you have to see what is known as the "Trilogy Version" which is only available through the Criterion Collection. Don't watch the mainstream theatrical release which was a terrible, edited down version.

Good question, I’m on the same quest as you. I’ve seen a lot of people compare this to films of Yasujiro Ozu. I would recommend checking out Paterson (directed by Jim Jarmusch), and starring Adam Driver.

I would say Past Lives which is a love story with some more dialogue but not a lot. It's also quite reflective. And maybe Zone of interest which is also very little dialogue but very creepy and disturbing - also shows how people move through life with little regard for the outside.

Caro amico, la penso come te. Ho adorato questo film. Vorrei entrare nel film e incontrare Hirayama e vivere con lui, essere come lui. Semplicemente perfetto per me. E credo che se ti incontrassi mi troverei molto bene con te perché ci assomigliano molto. Un saluto dall' Italia.
