Everybody struggles at one point or another to get a perfect guard fit up. So I’ve created this video to illustrate just how easy it can be, even without access to lots of advanced tools.
Filming, audio, and editing done by Allen Watts of Eleven Mass Media.

"minimal tools" : *pulls out hydrolic press 😂 This was pretty nice ! I was missing the hammering part. Why don't you round the shoulders ? Sharp corners between the tang and the shoulders create a stress point And how do you determine the width and length of the tang ?

The French Knife Maker I just estimate how long the tang should be, and the wider the better! I’ve never experienced any issues with fracturing blades on stress points like that, but it’s a good observation

Saw you on forged in fire! You were so humble and took constructive criticism for the best! Thank you sir, I have subscribed to all your videos, keep posting! I am going to try to make a 1970-1980 case boot knife with coffin handle. I am 42 and look to you for inspiration on pieces. Would love for you to attempt the same knife and post it. I need pointers, not going to lie!

Thanks for this. It's hard to find a good baseline for guards and bolsters when you don't have expensive tools or materials mailed to your door already square and flat.

Hey, quick question: has anyone given you a hard time about defacing the quarters? I’ve heard of other people doing that with coin and when KZbin heard about it, they stepped in and had the video scrapped. It’s a cool idea but I’m curious to hear back and see if you’ve suffered any grief?
