Parries are the most accidentally thing in the game. If it wasn't, then you'd see absolutely amazing matches where people were consistently parrying and punishing their opponents. Heck, I parry and punish a lot and I still don't know which button I'm spamming that makes the parry activate 😂.

It's actually the same button you use Shield on, yet it's the button you let go at the right timing for the attack to be parried

They're sort of meant to be, since you get them 5 frames after releasing your shield, meaning they reward tight spacing and timing of your shield, sort of like a plus to what in previous Smash games would simply mean getting hit because you released too tight. It's also why you see them more often against projectiles, like the Ken vs Wii Fit Trainer clip, projectiles are easily timeable.

OMG. I JUST did a Perfect Shield TWICE in a row on Kazuya in the Tourney in Hollow Bastion, four on Sora {because it was 5 Battles for Smash in Hollow Bastion} and then one on Yoshi in said Tourney in Hollow Bastion! And this was just a few hours ago! I'm a proud Sephiroth main, BTW. I've been destroying everyone like crazy, causing Shield Breaks and performing Meteor Smashes and Perfect Shields nonstop with the fallen one-winged angel. I've truly connected with this character more than my ex-mains, Joker, Dark Pit, Yoshi and Falco.
