My question is to know if we can say it like this: Not studying well, Rohan could not pass the test. I don't know how I feel about it man, what are your thoughts on that? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the kind word. To your question, yes. We can. Using the perfect form makes it precisely clear that it happened in the past. Present form sometimes fail to do it. But here, it's fine. They both work.

I had written a line my essay: " When it comes to buy a new thing, ........" But the examiner marked it as a mistake, and corrected it : "When it comes to buying new things,......" Could you explain me what is the difference between these two and why my sentence was incorrect???????
@EnglishWithAshish
@EnglishWithAshish 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the examiner's correct here. The preposition TO needs an object here, and an infinite or bare infinitive never works as the object of a preposition. It has to be a noun or gerund. ✓ When it comes to teaching English, Ashish is second to none. ✓ When it comes to my friends, I can do anything. ✓ When it comes to hard work, there's one in the company doing more than he's doing. Hope the explanation helps! 🌸

@@EnglishWithAshish Sir you used "by " in first example but you didn't use it in other examples so this thing made me confuse
@EnglishWithAshish
@EnglishWithAshish 4 жыл бұрын
That was optional, Yasmeen. In passive voice, which is used to focus on who or what is affected by an action or who receives an action. We don't focus on who has done it. But if you want to add the doer of the action, you can do it at the end of the sentence using BY. Look at the following two sentences: • He got beaten brutally last night. • He got beaten brutally last night by some people. Both of these sentences are same. We are focusing on who has received an action rather than who has done it. Now, adding the doer of the action is optional, like in the first sentence, I did not add the door of the action, but I did at the doer of the action in the second example. Both are just the same. Hope your confusion is clear now!

@anthapersephone7311
@anthapersephone7311 2 жыл бұрын
@@mohammadrahman9285 try this - having finished his lessons, Ali went to Kabul, without the time marker. The perfect participle (appears, I am not a teacher) to render the use of a time marker unnecessary. The perfect participle describes the verb as being done in the past. Before he went to Kabul, Ali finished his lessons. Is another variation of your sentence. After Ali finished his lessons Ali went to Kabul. Having finished his lessons Ali went to Kabul. Before Ali went to Kabul, Ali finished his lessons.
