IIRC this break was featured in The Endless Summer, when all we had was long boards. I remember when anything shorter than 8 feet was considered a short board, hah !!

Maybe the longest. Mongamanu is a very long point break right hander but it doesn't break all the way except in the northerly cyclone swell which does not happen often. If it really was a fact that raglan broke from indicators all the way through whale bay to Manu bay then yup it would be the longest but I never heard of it happening ever. I think it's a myth. And I would rather take my chances at indicators than flappy Manu Bay Just saying. but it is really cool love raglan its a place of beauty and most times can get a surf at Manu Bay it's consistent compared to most. this brings back memories. Raglan is an awesome place beautiful, lush, fertile land surrounds. Green hills lush terrain oh wish I was there now.

That would have been proper fun to surf with a tracker. Something that could make use of the fatter shoulder. Maybe even a short thick twinnie to generate speed and get some proper carving going on, and project up over the crumbling lip... I think the few surfers we watched seemed to have the wrong kit.. They just were not able to find the pocket and work with the wave... Yet I am positive, the wave could have been ridden in a lot more pleasing fashion...
@brendonleary4 жыл бұрын
@Joe Cool We are all always trying to get better. I think the surfers all seem like very competent surfers, and they do surf the wave fine for what they are riding. My major point was I think they are riding the wrong boards for the waves. If they had different boards they may be able to get more out of the wave.

It's longboarding wave!!! Slow an no power
@marcusgraham85397 жыл бұрын
It's not a long boarder wave at all. The footage is taken at high ride at indicators. And its not big. If it was 6 foot + and a lower ride the place is completely different. Snappers is a great wave but the crowds make it a monster of a place. I have surfed indicators for hours with only 3 guys and haven't stopped paddling and riding waves. But it needs size to scare off the punters. I love Australia but the east coast has the worst crowds on any of the good points. Even with size it's unbearable. At Raglan there are 3 points. Manu has the barrel. Whale is the fat point. And indicators has both. But the place can fire.
@greenhouseproductions64757 жыл бұрын
marcus graham the east cost has 5 star waves..raglan is rated a 3.. Iv surfed Raglan plenty of times and have never seen a hollow barrel out thea....at raglan there called pinchers
@marcusgraham85397 жыл бұрын
greenhouse Productions the Gold coast has great waves yes sure and my family live up on the sunshine coast. But when it gets good every man cat and dog go surfing. I've seen snappers firing with 100+ guys out. I've seen Noosa 8 foot with 100 guys out. It's really hard to get anywhere pumping without masses of people. I have Had Raglan dozens and dozens of times with very few people and pumping waves. If you have surfed indicators when it's big and perfect you wouldn't ever call it a weak longboarders wave. The points in Raglan are not GLand. But still produce amazing waves. And when I go for a surf I don't want to climb over 100 guy's then get dropped in on by 20 down the line.
@marcusgraham85397 жыл бұрын
If it was just about wave quality like how hollow and long a barrel can be ridden then you wouldn't fly into NZ and surf Raglan. I've spent plenty of time surfing Aussie and NZ and love both. But I've also like many people spent years in Indonesia. And If I want amazing waves I go to Indo. I would never do a surf trip to the Gold coast not because they don't have amazing waves but the crowds are the worst I've ever had anywhere in the world. But I meet some guys in Byron running the channel islands surf factory who raved about going to NZ and surfing different spots. One of their favorites being Raglan. Because the waves are great and little to no crowds.
