mainly grounders because When I get the ball and throw it's not in time. Update- I am hitting "Oppo" ( to the other side)
@ProSpeedBaseball
@ProSpeedBaseball 9 жыл бұрын
Will definitely put an outfield grounder video on the list, have quite a few in front of it, but will get to it ASAP. In the man time really focus on timing your feet with the grounder. You will want the foot that's on the same side as your glove, in front when catching it to ensure the quickest and most powerful throw. Awesome on the update too! Love to hear when guys make strides and start working the bat! Keep working hard and good luck out there! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

Of the gazillions of training videos on KZbin, this is among the best. I like that you do not over-complicate the process, which is all-too-often done and is especially difficult for young players to grasp. This helps a lot. One thing I have found to help young players keep their front foot in line with their back foot on the stride is to have him or her practice the stride while standing on a two-by-four. Thanks!

Norman Buzz Minnick Hey Norman, thanks for the great comment! Glad the video helped out! Totally agree with the drill with the two-by-four, would be an excellent way to make sure the stride is executed properly! Thanks for watching! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

We worked for 30 minutes prior to his game last night on what I saw in video. Had him load before the coach signaled the machine pitch was coming and really stride into the ball. Got his first hit. I played baseball. I can hit a baseball. I am now coaching kids on how to hit a baseball. I had no idea that I could not explain how to hit a baseball until I had to teach kids how to do it. “Just hit the ball!” is not a good coaching technique. This breakdown is going to change everything! You explain it in a way my brain just couldn’t process it. Thank you so much!!!

This is an absolutely perfect intro for swing protocol. We’ve always called it “trigger-stride-swing” -but it’s the same concept with undeniable results. I would pay particular attention to the “hands/wall” instruction as this is an overlooked aspect. Avoid the “recoil” with your hands as this will certainly put you ‘late’ on the swing. Great video, bro. You’ve provided further insight for training my kids -especially as a former pitcher; I couldn’t hit well haha

My 8 year-old just started Fall Ball. He has always been a pretty good hitter, but for some reason he was struggling to hit the ball. I could tell he was doing a few things wrong, but trying to explain and correct wasn't working. I found this video and thought the tips were great and relatively easy to explain. It took me less than two minutes to go over the basics of the video with him and sure enough, last night at practice he was crushing the ball! Nearly every hit was with power right up the middle...it was unbelievable. In a matter of minutes, he went from "I hate hitting" to "I can't wait to hit again!" Can't thank you enough for the information. I'm going to try it with my older son tonight...let's see if we can go 2 for 2!

This video actually reinforces many of the issues that are common in youth baseball. While well intentioned, teaching disconnected swings where the hands push down to the ball isn’t the answer! It’s crazy this has so many views. If you want to have a great swing, watch great hitters (MLB Players) and practice replicating what they do

I love the video, it was the way I was taught back in 2003ish from a local batting coach that had a short stint professionally. But it was a 4 step swing. #1 Load #2 Stride #3 Twist back foot (for lower body momentum) #4 Swing with head down to where the ball may be I did this in slow motion then sped it up everytime I was in the on deck circle & it worked for me. I practiced at home every chance I got. I can tell you my story about my career but it would take too much time. Just a suggestion moving forward. Thank you for reading this

Hello just watched your video for the first time. I would love to send some videos of my sons hitting mechanics. He is a junior college player for Mineral area. He hits home runs pretty easy with wood and of course metal. He had 13 home runs in 38 games with 50 rbi's last summer. He is bombing home runs during batting practice last fall and during games. He has been ask to play next summer in the M.I.N.K. league for the sedalia bombers team. A summer collegiate league for college players wanting to go pro. So far we know of 3 MLB scouts going to scout him this spring. His exit velo with a wood bat is just under 100 mph at 99. He is 18 yrs old and a freshman in college. I video him all the time and we sit down and go over what he needs to work on. A lot of times I"ll break down his swings with specific drills and then turn him loose. His videos are on you tube for you to access.

+Raul Romo Hey Raul, thanks for the comment! Striding and swinging at the same time is a very difficult way to hit, hence the ground balls, which is usually the tendency. +Beatbox Expert Thanks for the question! This drill is designed to be able to take your time through the load, stride and swing. So throwing it up to yourself would create a drill where you would have to move quickly. This drill, however, can be done with someone else tossing it to you. This would give you the opportunity to load and stride first, then swing when the ball is tossed. Hope this helps out! If you have any other questions, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

Great video. I'm a Little League coach for 10 year olds and so many of my guys straighten their front arm during swing. Do you have any videos or drills addressing specifically that? I'm having a hard time finding the right cues to tell the boys so they stop straightening that arm. Also, great point on the double loading and striding. I was working with the boys on this very thing last night, several of them would get loaded, take their step and then do it again to take their swing.

@ProSpeedBaseball 10 жыл бұрын
Brian Mitts Brian Mitts Thanks Brian! I currently don't have any videos specifically on straightening the front arm, yet it's a great idea for a video and I will most definitely put it on the list!Yea, the double load and stride is extremely productive if done correctly, I have had a lot of success teaching my students by telling them it's not a "swing hard" or "kill the ball" drill and I usually have them think about swinging around half-speed. They can definitely speed it once they've gotten used to ONE load and ONE stride.Thanks for the comment and thanks for the video idea! And if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can help out with just let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

@ProSpeedBaseball 9 жыл бұрын
Jacob Wilson Hey Jacob, thanks for the question!! Getting back to the basics is a great place to start, especially for guys who have been out of the game for a while. Basics will come back pretty quick as well being as the guys have already played baseball before. The guys transferring over from softball will be a slightly different issue, generally. The slow pitch softball swing is different enough from the baseball swing to throw anybody off for a bit. A good place to start with them is to spread out the base and use a smaller stride. (Slow Pitch Softball players normally start narrow and take a big stride) As far as videos, the Load Stride Swing video is great place to start and I would highly recommend these: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DXe6mJeNuaiKc (Awesome video for understanding swing path) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJCZq5ePiqejoMU (Setup) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX_Wkpuwbp6Ela8 (Good Contact Drill with tee or batting practice) kzbin.info/www/bejne/imrQYXevbM2KedU (Help softball guys shorten up swing) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7SmGWlprGXh9U (good to understand body position at contact) If you ever have any questions or there's anything I can help with don't hesitate to let me know! Good Luck out there! ~Micheal Pro Speed Baseball

I am just getting into playing baseball it’s seem to be easy on defense for me but offense is where I need to work on. With that being said, your video helped me, however I have one question; how do I know when to stride

Any chance I can send you a video of my son hitting? He has started to struggle a little...unsure if it is increase in weight of bat causing the changes.

Great video. I graduated from High School and played softball for a few years. Now I'm in a really competitive mens wooden bat league. I don't ever have a problem seeing the ball or recognizing the pitch. But I can tell that my swing is to long. What tips would you give on being quicker and shortening up the swing but maintaining power. Hit a home-run 3 games ago that went about 345 ft. But I would trade that in if I could constantly hit the ball hard up the middle.

Joshua Vargo Hey Joshua, thanks for the comment! Have a couple of great videos on the channel that will really help with transferring the softball swing back to baseball. There aren't huge differences, but definitely big enough to throw you off. (Like you said, you feel like the swing is long) I would check out these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKCmdYCDmJZ7abM - Video is for picking up quickness and bat speed, yet the drill in the video will be really good for shortening up as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imrQYXevbM2KedU - This drill is specific for shortening up the swing. I would highly suggest paying attention to the setup and checkpoints for the drill. Those are what's really going to help make the swing more efficient/shorter. Hope these help out, if you have any questions on this or anything else don't hesitate to let me know! Nice job with the bomb too! Good Luck! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

My son lifts his plant foot (front foot) right before contact and hits off his toes. So in other words,when he makes contact with the baseball, he lifts his heel and hits off his toes. Any advise or drills on how to keep his front foot on the ground at contact ? Great videos.

Robert R Hey Robert, thanks for the question! I don't have a video specifically on this, but I have ran into this on multiple occasions. I would highly suggest starting from a tee and working on this drill: 1. Get into the load/stride position (just like the Load, Stride, Swing Video) 2. Get the lead heel down to a flat foot position. 3. Make swings at 25% while keeping the lead flat foot position. 4. Once he can make 10-15 swings in a row without lifting the foot up, bump the swings up to 50% 5. Repeat #4 at 50% then bump it up to 75%, then game speed. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 in front toss, then again in batting practice. After doing these he should start to get a sense of where and what his feet are doing, and have a ton of reps swinging with the lead heel down. Hope this helps get him started! I'd also like to hear how he does with it as well. Thanks for the awesome comment too, really glad you enjoy the instruction! If you have any other questions on this or anything else, just let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

+Pro Speed Baseball Michael, Thanks for the advise. The drill seemed to work well. After a week of doing the drill you recommended, my son now consistently keeps his plant foot firmly on the ground at contact. We are still working some bugs out with him keeping his head on the ball at contact, but his swing looks 10 X better then it did. Thanks again. Keep the Awesome videos coming.

Great video. My 8 year old plays in a machine pitch league vs the old coaches pitch. He's having a hard time understanding timing with regards to load and stride. He swings flat footed, no stride but he swings late with a wide weak swing. Any advice is helpful as he's the one kid on the team who can't grasp hitting. He's frustrated. Thank you.

+Brad Tolson Hey Brad, thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear you guys are having some trouble. Without physically seeing him swing, it would be taught to tell you guys exactly what to work on. However, the drill in this video is a great place to start. As far as timing the machine, I would suggest loading and striding as the coach is bringing his hand down to signal the release of the pitch. Therefore, his load and stride will be done before the ball is released and will give him a much better chance at getting to contact. Hope this helps out! +Brad Tolson So leave the stride out! I get my "kids" having that problem to just load and swing...or just tap the front foot, barely pick up the front foot/then back down, the shift is almost automatic. With proper load there is weight shift with the swing. Work on getting him to making contact and he can increase the amount he "strides" as he gets more comfortable. Everyone wants to be a HR hitter, but a consistent contact hitter is a team asset. Bottom line if he isn't having fun he will never fall in love with the game. It is hard to explain in words hope this helps you guys..

Hey Michael, do you have suggestions with loading like some players have a leg kick, toe tap, or a little stride forward which would you recommend to be as effective and efficient as possible or is it more personal preference? I'm trying to be as consistent as possible and trying to be as simple as possible with no crazy moving parts so I could be short and quick to the ball. Thanks

You know what would really be a game changer!? doing a video where a pitcher is throwing at you and you explain when you should start doing the LOAD, STRIDE, SWING. Please do it, or explain your tecnique on how to time your swing with the pitcher at what point do you start you Load? when the pitcher shows the ball? that would be awesome!! thanks
