For Whom the Bell Tolls has a anthem like quality to it. The verses are quiet, contemplative, and reflective. Then the chorus explodes with heart wrenching emotion. On paper it doesn't sound like this combination would work but it does work beautifully. This is a piece of songwriting craftsmanship executed to perfection. I enjoyed watching your reaction to it.

Any time that I listen to this song, I need to have tissues next to me. Not only is this song fantastic, but they do a live version in NYC, and the Twin Towers are still standing. 😢

My favorite Bee Gees from beginning to end even in the 1990's like this. Another different type of Bee Gees song and one of my favorites is "One" the title record from that album in 1989.

I loved your reaction...this is later showing how they moved with the times and has more of an adult contemporary rock feel. They always wrote from the heart though. The one and only Bee Gees. Bodyguard, Kiss of Life, My Lover's Prayer, I could not love you more, Closer than close.

Robin said he wrote this song about Andy and the relationship and break up with actress Victoria Principle. Andy had tried several times to stop the substance abuse and relapsed each time. She said me or the drugs. He found out a little too late that he could not live without her. He had a successful recovery but she wasn't coming back. He was in recovery just over a year when he got Myocarditis and his heart had permanent damage from the years of substance abuse and it was too weak to fight it. Still breaks my heart. They had just announced several months before that Andy would be joining his brothers as a permanent member of the Bee Gees. I wish so much that it could have been. Grateful for everything they shared with us.

So here's a short list of songs with electric guitar accompaniement. Sixties : "In my own time", "Idea", "The change is made" . Seventies : " Trafalgar", "Bad bad dreams", "Heavy breathing", "I can't let you go", "Road to Alaska" , "You should be dancing". "Tragedy". Eighties : "He's a liar", "The woman in you", "E.S.P.", "Wing and a prayer", Nineties "When he's gone", "Kiss of life", "Irresistible force". Twenties : "This is where I came in", " She keeps on coming", "Voice in the wilderness".

Pretty much all their songs use electric guitar but it is usually part of the instrumental blend so it doesn't stand out. Alan Kendall played lead guitar with the Bee Gees for many years but rarely had any guitar solos.

Barry last album "In the now" is a great one as is Robin's posthumous album "50. St. Catherine's" want a bad song try "I held a party" from 1972's "To whom it may concern"
