It worries me tbh, I loved ds3's system but I think it created some pitfalls regarding lightweight weapons being super cheesy, Murky and straightsword cancels are up there Also they should fix the vertical deadzones on ranged atta ks if they havent already
@SaganTheKhajiit Жыл бұрын
@@br3hbmc79 It does make faster weapons more cheesy, but in my opinion that's easier to manage than many weapons being unviable because anyone with a small measure of poise will walk right through your attacks. The vertical deadzones were implemented on purpose, so it's a change rather than a fix. And all that means is that it takes longer to get done.
@trevordillon1921 Жыл бұрын
Probably because it does, in part, walk back a core part of the PvP’s identity. DS3 was basically known for its hyperarmor over poise approach. While I had no issues with that, it’s certainly interesting to be back there again after what, 2 years or so of the game being out? I think my biggest issue with it, and I imagine it would be a large portion of others as well, is the fact that the old passive system is near entirely gone. A blend of the two would probably have been great, but instead we have what is essentially the same as DS3, and while I look forward to the return of slow, powerful weapons into the meta, I do wish passive poise remained in some capacity.
@khajiitimanus7432 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I quit DS3 back in 2019 because of the hyper armor poise system. Thinking and reflecting on DS3 for years to discover just why I hated it, all answers I can find point to the hyper armor system being the core root of the problem. Armor was worthless, great weapons were obscenely outperformed by smaller counterparts, and PvP balance was atrociously out of wack, with only Dexterity and Quality builds even being _viable._ Strength builds were useless if they didn't use axes or hammers, and although this second part isn't affected by armor poise, magic damage from spells were just straight-up nonexistent. Dark Souls 1 was broken by poor number balance. Dark Bead does too much damage and has too low of a stat requirement. That's the main example, but it repeats and reappears with a wide array of weapons and spells, with many either being overpowered or underpowered due to raw numbers or animations. There's also the issue of how ridiculously easy it is to land backstabs, which turns all melee PvP into 5 minutes o Ring Around the Rosie while players look for a backstab opportunity. Dark Souls 2 (original and SotFS edition) was broken by the Soul Memory mechanic making multiplayer horrifically difficult to connect. The game had a fair few issues besides that, but they were all practically nonexistent issues (with the exception of some mildly questionable level design, but I find it holds up well enough today, so... whatever) - but Soul Memory broke the game, making it impossible to really do any multiplayer reliably. The core game mechanics of DS2, funnily enough, were actually outright perfect when one excludes Soul Memory. DS2 just needs a reimagining with the exact same mechanics (excluding Soul Memory). Bloodborne had no major issue. The game is damn near perfect - the only flaw is that some weapons are just completely worse than others, but that's largely a non-issue, since that only applies to like one or two weapons in the game. Bloodborne is basically perfect - just needs a remaster for graphics and frame rate. Dark Souls 3 was broken by the lack of passive poise and the absurd feebleness of spell damage. Caster builds just didn't work unless you went melee (a Crystal infused Lothric Straight Sword without any boosters does more damage than a cast of Crystal Soul Spear with every possible spell booster). Straight Swords and Maces/Clubs outdamaged literally every other melee weapon, too - and the armor system didn't allow users of great weapons to trade and stagger them. So really, the insult was that R1 spamming was the meta. If they couldn't trade, then they wouldn't have been able to R1 spam. Although the absurd raw damage of straight swords and the Mace on top of it all also detracted heavily. I didn't fully know it at the time, but before I realized this in it's entirety, I always described the utter wrongness of DS3 as "Dark Souls without the right rhythm or tempo." In hindsight, this is because DS3 tried too hard to use the successes of Bloodborne, and forgot that Dark Souls is set to an entirely different pace - I fully believe that the reason why DS3 developed these horrific failures is because it just tried to emulate Bloodborne too much, when Bloodborne simply didn't belong in Dark Souls's melody. I'm forever salty by how much DS3 was a let down to me. Dark Souls: Remastered attempted to look like it fixed anything. It made things worse. It introduce the password matchmaking system, which was definitely good, but it also introduced weapon matchmaking, which restricted matchmaking based on a weapon's upgrade level. Recall that the original Dark Souls 1 had horribly unbalanced weapons - to an absurd range. This meant that, anyone who was using weapons to prey upon new players suddenly couldn't - but spells weren't restricted, so everyone started using Dark Bead instead. Weapon matchmaking killed DS1 because they didn't bother to fix the original problems - and funnily enough, by removing the ability for people to prey on newer players with overpowered weapons, the devs also removed any possible way to combat Dark Bead spammers at low levels - so multiplayer interactions just don't exist at lower levels in DS: Remastered, and that's an absolute shame. I will say that Blight Town is quite lovely in the Remastered version, though - you can actually have a frame rate, unlike the original DS1. I'm emotionally wounded by how lackluster the Remaster of Dark Souls 1 is. And now, Elden Ring. I don't know enough to definitively pin a problem, but if I had to guess, it'd be raw damage being far too high - both in PvP and in PvE. That could've been easily fixed by improving armor (and maybe doing mild adjustments to enemies and bosses to give them more health - especially with Morgott and Godfrey) but except for that one update which buffed armor poise, they've only ever nerfed armor since then. And now, without the passive poise system, they might just remake the mistakes of DS3 - turning armor functionally useless and depreciating bigger weapon types. I hold no illusions. DS3 sucked, PvE and PvP. I feel most people like it because it hit a lot of traction and was simply just what was popular. DS2 had the best gameplay - stunted only by questionable level design/enemy placement and a piss poor online matchmaking system. Elden Ring is good, but I think that removing passive poise was quite possibly the worst possible thing that could've been done. I've ranted a lot now. I don't usually get too opinionated, but in regards to poise and armor mechanics in Souls-likes? I will f*cking die on my hill of "passive poise is and will always be a better mechanic than a pure hyper armor system."
@khajiitimanus7432 Жыл бұрын
@@trevordillon1921Personally, I'd argue that the greater emphasis on hyper armor detracts more on heavy weapons, particularly because this new update seems to have granted hyper armor to smaller weapons now. Heavy weapons niche role of bypassing a need for armor poise has been entirely scraped. Now more players will just invest in smaller weapons that attack faster, leading back into an aggressive play-style meta that will destroy the viability of great weapons and colossal weapons, which thrive on a counteractive and defensive play-style. Personally, I see the scrapping of passive poise as an omen of death to the versatility of Elden Ring PvP. The memories of the utter sh*tshow that was DS3's PvP are too recent, and part of me is already tempted to just quit Elden Ring on principle before I even properly test the new update myself. Doesn't mean I'm gonna to listen to that temptation, though. I know that's a radical and extremist perspective, but in this instance, I fully embrace that. I genuinely feel that the complete removal of passive poise is an omen of death for Elden Ring - but I'll only know for certain after looking back on the data in a few years. My bias to immediately and viscerally hate a Souls-likes game that lacks poise means that I wouldn't be surprised, but nonetheless I must endeavour to not be led by that bias. I genuinely feel that if the devs took more inspiration out of DS2, it'd have been the best possible outcome. I wish they reintroduced armor upgrades. I wish they reintroduced more armor effects. I wish everything was a little slower and more fluid, with late game boss fights being less about gimmicks that instantly ruin a player's chances (*cough* Malenia in general and Maliketh's raw damage, *cough*) and instead more about endurance battles against a challenging opponent with fair odds of either success or failure. Fume Knight Raime, Sinh the Slumbering Dragon, Sir Alonne, and the Ivory King were all the pinnacles of good boss fights in DS2 - battles of attrition against foes who put a lot of pressure but ultimately could be felled like anyone else. They were appropriately scaled challenges. Not a gimmick boss like Malenia, who regenerates all of the damage inflicted with a few absurdly hard-hitting swings, and who also has an instant kill move, and who casually breaks established game mechanics by randomly breaking out of stun animations. Alas, the implementation of further DS2 stuff is likely not to be.

@@spudlover3939 Blood infusion wouldn't be that bad on a colossal greatsword. I used it on the Iron Greatsword, Braggart's Roar and the same talismans as Lost is showing. One charged heavy attack procs bleed, activates Lord of Blood's Exultation further buffing attack power. Using charged heavies sparingly and lights for everything else with all of the other buffs (LoBE, Braggart) tends to work well, especially with the crouching thrust. Although the blood buff can be circumvented by using seppuku on a short sword if it seems like landing a charged heavy will be an issue. One charged heavy can either end a fight or bring it close to the end, even when invaded. Barbaric roar with cold infusion is great on a Giant Butcher Knife, with the 1% HP from every hit. I dual wield them, using Rotten Winged Sword Insignia and Millicent's Prosthesis. Pressing L1 twice is enough to build up serious attack power, and then a charged heavy will claim back a small portion of health with every hit if an enemy attacks whilst the hyper armour is active, and can proc frostbite

If they trade with a heavier weapon on the first swing, have it so they can roll out unless caught by the second which would stagger them into the rest. So far I've noticed that the "Common courtesy" has died a bit after it took a while to bring it in. I'm seeing gank squads again and 1v1s where players rush in while bowing and doing weapon art spamming. I liked DS3 pvp but I'm not liking the players I'm seeing rejoin Elden Ring after this patch

No way they just buffed my favorite weapon and ash of war combo this is amazing

So many more weapons should be viable now. I wonder how ashes of war like repeating thrust or blood tax will do now. Damage is still a bit too high though. A nice 30% cut wouldn't be too bad.

Personally I think a good starting place for experimentation would be previously poor-performing weapons (hammers/flails lol)

Personally, I have _very_ conflicted feelings about a system that is completely without passive poise. Armor defenses are already terrible in Elden Ring. No poise on top of that just... kinda makes armor more useless. But on the other hand, poise monsters are kinda terrible. I acknowledge , accept, and agree with that. Still, I feel that tanks should have a place in _existing at all._ I personally feel that the better solution would be to take a page out of Syndrome in the Incredibles - "when everyone is super no one is." I'm not too familiar with the new patch yet, but to my understanding from your explanation they completely removed passive poise from PvP - and personally, I feel that completely removing it is an egregious mistake. In my opinion, many armors should be able to poise through at least one or two hits from the regular attacks on straight swords, katanas, axes, and spears, and should completely poise through daggers and throwing knives. I just... don't like the implications of armor being made _more_ useless. For me, personally, it kinda... kills a bit more of whatever enthusiasm I still have left. I argue that other armors should've been poise buffed. Bridge the gap and make it easier, instead of basically removing the mechanic entirely. Not to mention that it also heavily detracts from colossal and great weapons. Before this update, they were the only ones with any hyper armor. Now, the uniqueness and selectiveness of that quality to them is lost. I quit DS3 because of the hyper armor mechanic and depreciated armor functionality. I didn't like the idea of armor being worth less than rubbish (the sole exception being the existence of a defence and absorption armor system - it's a good idea, but rough around the edges in DS3; I kinda wish it reappeared in Elden Ring), and of straight swords, axes, and clubs outdamaging their larger counterparts to obscene degrees in all categories. That last part hasn't happened yet, but I'm still afraid of the possibility - 'cause if you didn't notice in DS3, the Mace and Lothric Straight Sword would consistently outdamage every other weapon of every category (not to mention outdamaging every spell by principle), both in single attacks and DPS. The idea of that possibly happening in Elden Ring's later updates... leaves a cold sweat. The way you explained it makes me somewhat terrified - and I put emphasis on that phrase because I'm still sorta in denial about that; I'm almost hoping it was some sort of exaggeration or miscommunication. I know many people are rejoicing and quite happy with the changes to a more hyper armor based system, but personally... at least from how it sounds, I am very much not. From what I understand, this is the kind of direction in an update that I feared most. If armor at least significantly impacted defenses and could poise through lighter weapons and attacks, I wouldn't have any issue with a hyper armor system. But the absence of passive poise entirely is outright horrifying to me. Just... venting my thoughts out there. I'm abstractly terrified that I may feel compelled to quit Elden Ring. I accept that this is... unfortunately... just the direction that the game seems to be taking, since it appears to be what the majority of people want. Nonetheless, I voice my thoughts to the contrary. Hot take: if removing passive poise is the direction they're going in, they might as well remove armor in its entirety while they're at it - just make it all collectable cosmetics instead. Armor is already damn near useless as is, excluding poise applications. Now, without poise, what's even the point? Why bother with having armor exist if it barely does anything and gets outperformed by spells and talismans? If nothing else, I and other like-minded individuals probably wouldn't have an issue anymore beyond being salty at the development direction, 'cause I'm more peeved that armor exists as something basically useless. It had nothing really going for it before 1.10, and now it has even less going for it. I'm annoyed by the lack of function, but if armor didn't exist, then at least there wouldn't be the lack of function either.

Nothing changed for me. I'm not a tryhard and since fashion takes priority, so I got used to running around with super low poise a long time ago. Plus my preferred weapon is one of the few that didn't get a poise buff... and I hope they leave it the way it is. But at least maybe I wont have to look at so many ugly bullgoats.

I tried adding reduvia to the offhand to catch people using boluses and it was a pretty fun addition! can anyone suggest other weapon combos to use with this build to have options to switch to? Also what would be the best ranged option to add to this?

Hey Lost, nice vid. The blue at Mountaintops who attacked the host, was an Invader supporter, he just communicated it very badly. Some Blue’s act as supporting for invaders. I for example do the same. Because someone who activates blue help is not worth it and must be punished for beeing such an videogame failure. 😂

Levels don't translate exactly 1 for 1. If you start a new character, it will have a greater number of stats than its starting level. That may be the discrepancy you're seeing.

Elden ring needs fsr2.1, I have rtx 3070 and GPU usage 50% with ray tracing off and everything maxed at 1440p, when I turn on ray tracing to max and my fps can drop to 30 from 60fps is so laggy, they add ray tracing but not upscale technology sadly.

If this update just effectively removed Poise, this is by far the worst update in the history of Elden Ring. This isn't Bloodborne and this isn't the wannabe Dark Souls game. Poise shouldn't be a joke. I would like to say get your not Poise system out of Elden Ring but that's up to the developers. You can probably tell that I'm not pleased in the slightest at the time of writing, but at least this doesn't affect PvE.
