Good Day, What do you do about parasites when keeping them indoors?

Thanks for the reply, we farm in South Africa under extensive conditions but due to losses every year I am considering doing something more intensive, get the lambs stronger at least before sending them of into the wild. How do you go about cleaning the shed/ lambing pens? I ask this because when I shear my sheep I keep them in a shed overnight and sometimes just from that one night I would have a few die. supposedly from pneumonia.. We farm mostly Merino sheep, I'll try to post a video of our sheering now. (it might look like a tour down memory lane for you guys though..;)

Renier Grobler that’s pretty bad pneumonia if it kills them overnight are you sure you not overcrowding them? Here in Canada pneumonia takes at least 2 days to kill

Renier Grobler I plan to but it is difficult to film when one is so busy. We next lamb in March and to a lesser extent April. We don't have many problems with parasites indoors. Wool lice don't seem to be a problem. If you had any contagious nasties e.g. Maedi Visna it would wipe you out after a few years. You need to keep the bedding nice and clean to keep coccidia and bacteria levels low which could affect the new born lamb even though it's not too much of an issue for the ewe. Regards Peregrine

How many to a pen and what size are the pens,do they just get tmr and no grain if you feed grain how do you do it ,please

I keep the pen stocking density fairly low to start with but we can go up to 40 per pen or just over. The limit is the 15 foot of feed face. I put in soypass ( for protein) and milled barley in the tmr mix later in pregnancy along with a mineral pack. It works very well but is expensive when machinery and building are costed in.
