Fun fact: Lay's antis call him white lotus (Chinese idiom to refer that someone is fake, only look innocent but actually devil inside) --- and he made a masterpiece titled Lotus, which is pronounced like Lit :) In the MV, the lotus, despite being drowned in dark liquid, remains pure and unsoiled. Yixing also was called Sheep by his antis, and he also made a song titled Sheep :D

one of lay backup dancers said that it was such intense training. I really love that you pointed out that Lay is trying to establish his own sound. And I have to agree. Compared to his first Solo work like Lose Control (which I love), he still had an EXO sound to him, “the Lay from EXO or EXO’s Lay”. But now I feel like he’s come a long way where he can stand on his own two feet. You should listen to the first half of this album, it's out on spotify. It's really really good, rap & vocal - wise. The second half will be release probably on July to complete his 4th Full Album. The story behind the mv of Lit is about Xiang yu ,Xiang Yu is a legendary warlord and Lay's favorite hero. The MV portrays Xiang Yu's entrapment by the Han soldiers in the Battle of Gaixia. When most of his own soldiers left, he composed the Song of Gaixia (the song in the begining the mv) for his wife Consort Yu who later took her own life. Xiang Yu and few of his soldiers managed to escape but thousands of Han troops were still after them. Battle here, battle there. Until in the end, he was left alone. Refusing to surrender, he also took his own life. Until in the end, he was left alone. Refusing to surrender, he also took his own life. There's a song on the album named Jade which is about Xiang Yu's wife Consort Yu. I hope you give a listen to the album specially Jade, H2O and Soul!! The MV was filmed 6 months ago at Zhejiang Hengdian World Studios in China, the world’s largest outdoor film studio. More than a hundred background actors were involved in this MV. He personally spent $1.4M for the overall production. The company that made the effects for the Lit MV is Dexter Studios. This is the first time that they have produced a music video as they usually make movies, such as the Oscar-winning "Parasite." The word 莲 "lian" (which sounds like lit in chinese) means LOTUS. The slang the haters used to say to him is 白莲花 (bai lian hua) which means someone who is pure in appearance, but opposite inside. But lotus is a holy and pure image in Chinese history which is not a small thing like those haters said. The bad metaphor happens these years from some ignorant and stupid people. He speak highly of it and correct the reputation for it as irony to the haters. Another thing is that there's an old metaphor about lotus: 出淤泥而不染 (which he used in the lyric of this song), which means growing and living in the mud/silt but not being stained or dyed by it, referring to the world vs him as a person and his goal and dreams. He used the 2 different sides of the word lotus. The overall MV is based off of Lay’s favorite Chinese historical figure fighting oppression. The MV is the portrayal of a Chinese General’s entrapment by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. The voice in the 1st 1min of the MV is actually the voice of a Peking opera artist singing “The Song of Gaixia” which the General composed for his wife Lady Yu (potrayed in Lay’s song, Jade) who later took her own life Lay released his semi-autobiographical book “Independent 24” or "Standing firm at 24." In the book, Yixing talked about how he thinks he has 2 dragons inside him, the good & the bad. He always listens to the good one, which the dragon protecting him and helping through the difficulties. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, strength, and good luck. This could be the reference to the dragon from the mv is helping him to fight the enemies. Btw the dance is more of krumping rather than break dance. One of the choreographers is Kasper who also choreographed Baekhyun's Candy

FUN FACT : Yixing revealed that 300-400 extras were involved (the soldiers in LIT's MV). The shoot took about 3-4 days & he wrote the script himself! He also said a lot of people helped & contributed to this project, which explains the long credit scene. He spent 1.4M USD for this MV, and all of that productions comes from his own money. NOT SM.

I'm more than a year late but I'll ramble anyways, it was pointed out here that yixing has his own sound, that is correct because that's what he was aiming for actually. he's made a new genre and planned it all throughout his solo career, he's known as the pioneer of MPOP - mixed mandarin pop, the goal is to mix the traditional chinese music to modern, as well as mix the cultural sound of mandarin to the english language. and yes you were right, he is krumping, and during this time he was still learning it and only officially began training for 3-6 months. he even talked to tight eyez and the creator of krump praised him >< yixing is known as one of SM's best dancer, performer, and basically an all-rounder. the thing is he's promoting on his own as a CEO of his own company (he's looking for trainees now) and studio based in china. he produces, composes, arranges, sings, records, directs his mvs and his songs too! (literally does all those basically by himself LMAO) not to mention he helped the other sm rookies (which are all nct and wayv members now) and mentored them before with their dancing and created a few choreos! that includes ten, taeyong, mark, renjun, chenle, the rest of the dreamies and 127 too. oh and he collaborated with 127 and jason derulo a couple years ago. tho he still promoted with exo but the last was few years ago :] he joined on a few of their comebacks but never promoted with them basically because he's more established as a soloist now. honey wasn't his official solo debut, he actually debuted solo in korea but with a mandarin song (which is very hard to do) and he promoted in music shows too in 2016. his first mini album was lose control, followed by sheep, namanana (his US solo debut, broke records and he's the highest charting mpop artist on billboard for that one), and the latest one is LIT. there are also several EPs in between of those albums. and I'm just gonna point out that sm doesn't really handle anything he does in china and they just get money from him and put their logos in his mvs, but all of those come from his own pocket as well as his own team ^__^ credits all to LAY.

Lit has similar pronunciation as lotus flower in Chinese, and it describes a Chinese religious belief of the duality of life and death. In lit mv, general Xiang Yu (the one in Peking opera costume. He’s a very famous war hero who fought until the last minute) is the past life and Lay in modern clothes is the present life. Dragon represents general’s spirit and soul, and the lotus flower and witch with the dragon eye tattoo help pass along the spirit. Another meaning of Lotus flower is the symbol of growth and purity because it grows and blossoms out of mud. Some people also use it to describe someone who is pure and innocent in appearance but maybe opposite inside. Lay’s antis used to call him white lotus because they don’t believe such a huge star could be so honest, humble, hard working and respectful to others. They also mock at his dream of bringing Chinese music to the world, saying that all of his hard work and effort will go in vain. This song is Lay’s response to bullies. “No one beat me down, I walk my own path, I’m the lit”.
