I am an actor and content creator with Hollywood credits including roles on Lucifer (Netflix), Starlight Christmas (Hallmark), JT Leroy (Universal Studios), etc. In this channel, I offer insight to Kpop performances using my 10+ years of training in dance, acting, singing and overall performance. 'Forever' actually isn't aespa's actual comeback. It is just a remake single since it's a tradition in SM Entertainment to let their girl groups cover a song (after debut) from their senior artist/s in SM. Since they want to showcase aespa's vocals.

It's not really a tradition though. They only started doing something like this with Red Velvet. Neither Fx or Girls Generation did official re-makes. It's prolly just a coincidence. Most likely wanted to showcase vocals for both of these groups since each debuted with a very pop heavy song. Plus, a ballad is great for winter

It's particularly common for SM girl groups to do a remake of a senior/sunbaenim song after 1 or 2 months of debut. SNSD released a remake of Lee Seung Chul's Girls Generation, F(x) did not release a remake but they performed SNSD's Kissing You (alongside Sooyoung and Seohyun) and Red Velvet released a remake of S.E.S's Be Natural featuring Taeyong.

Yoo YoungJin (the original singer & composer of Forever) is a legendary SM in-house composer & producer.. he wrote lots of SM artists' classic & hit songs, his signature sound are those falsettos and high notes that SM vocalists are known for... some of my fav songs from him are SM The Ballad's Hot Times, SuJu's Sorry Sorry & Sorry Sorry Answer, TVXQ's Before U Go, EXO's What Is Love, SMTOWN's Dear My Family, Shinhwa's Perfect Man, and a lot more, those songs have those kinds of signature Yoo YoungJin falsettos and high notes in them... and he also sang Beautiful Girls for SNSD's concert VTR back in the days (i feel so old now...)
