When I first started the 90 degree backing I struggled like hell now I'm showing other students how to do it... my advice to everyone is the more you do it the better you get at it and don't let it frustrate you when you lose sight of the trailer in dew time you'll have more control than you do at home lol.. 👍🏽😉

agreed, repetitions is everything. After a while you won't need rigid rules, eyesight, speed, and timing is huge. I had lots of trouble with timing, I kept holding my right too long, and you correct/pull up constantly. trailer end is ahead of where your eyesight and brain tells you it is in the mirror. I often skip the mirror on cut right, until I know i'm on a line, then I go to the mirror. go slow, be patient, when you start getting the timing then you can speed up some.

Sitting here frustrated as we speak, on my lunch break after not being able to do it even ONCE in 2 and a half hours!...straight backing I can do, offset backing, is coming along nicely...THIS one is kicking my ass.

I like the split screen of this video. You get to see his steering maneuvers and then how the trailer and tractor react.

set up is everything on 90 deg back. what helped me was visually lining up the trailer rear in the Center of the box. too far back and you risk hitting the pass. side trailer, too far past center you can back a little then start your cut. for me its seeing dead center of the box, If my set up left me short of center I cut harder and sooner or if way short I may pull up more first, if im past center, I will back a little and maybe cut a little back and forth until I can see for sure and then I know i'm in there safely.

Great video , I'm still rough around the edges W/alley docking ! my instructors are telling us to begin to straight back approximately 6 feet then turn the wheel hard to the right two full turn until you begin to see the trailer begin to bend the turn it back hard left twice and "trust the Left " my problem I keep coming up short to the alley box. I feel as if I need to wait a few more feet then begin my turn to the right hard but slowly back to the left and watch the trailer. Your video provides plenty of ideas.
@johncalvo17438 жыл бұрын
+Go Blue Remember: Small Cuts and Long Distance. All you need is ONE full right turn. As soon as you see your landing gear in your left mirror (maybe 3 seconds), STRAIGHTEN the wheel. Let the trailer drift until you see the rear left tire cross the imaginary line of the near cone, then go hard LEFT to straighten out. If you do this correctly you won't have to do ANY right turns after the initial one. This instructor screwed up because he would have DEMOLISHED the truck in the next lane.
@goblue94828 жыл бұрын
Thank you.

@@johncalvo1743 does the mudflap have to be slightly pass the landing gear or in the middle of the landing gear?
@johncalvo17433 жыл бұрын
@@denn4367 It all depends on the truck, your tandems, etc. What might work one day might not work the next. The point is that you can make adjustments if you are drifting either way. Small cuts over long distances is the best way for beginners.

lonely4wd For the NCDMV CDL test the driver is "REQUIRED" to do a 90 degree alley dock maneuver. So when you advise that it is, "not necessary", please review your state facts.

I thought you did it way too fast and without stopping along the way telling us how to line up with the center of the landing gear and then the end of the landing gear and then repeat. It's way too difficult for beginners to do this in one fluid motion like you did. Thanks anyway.

Yep, and there are no 4wheelers parked along the blindside of your truck on that small street. No $200,000.00 Petes on both sides of you, AND no traffic coming on that same street you're blocking. Lol.
@CharlesLindenschmidt-xo9lr11 ай бұрын
You encroached w/the tail of the trailer, couldn't see the passenger side but that looked like you encroached as well. If you were backing between 2 trucks, you'd have an accident report to file.

Not on the back. At least not here in Ontario. Definitely need it when driving forward, but as soon as I've gotten out, checked my pathway, and am in the seat to perform the back I'm allowed to have the belt off, basically required to so that I can look through the window at my trailer.
@lucasriddle71407 жыл бұрын
In the US, that would be a fail. I guess the pointshpuld be to make sure you are aware of these little things depending on local law where you will be testing.
