🌟 About this video
Did you ever watch a perfume declutter and wonder what the most decluttered perfume or perfume brand on KZbin is? Well I did! So I decided to do some fragrance declutter analysis and find out.
If you don't already know, I'm a scientist. I think I maybe think about things in a slightly different way sometimes as a result. In other words, I'm a bit geeky.
I sat down and watched 21 perfume declutter videos from 18 different creators posted over the space of 40 days on KZbin and I recorded EVERY perfume that was decluttered in those perfume declutters... yes, over 300 of them... This video is the result ...and I've analysed the perfume declutter data to show you which perfume categories, fragrance brands and particular perfumes are being decluttered most often.
What's your guess? Were you surprised by the most decluttered brand?

I think what saddens me ( and this is all just my opinion) about the fragrance companies and the community is that people have actually lost perspective of the reason for owning perfume in the first place This decluttering trend is something new and would never have happened 20 years ago because owning a fragrance was a more thought out process and an experience 🤷‍♀️ This video was absolutely brilliant and so well researched Thanks Clare for sharing your expert experience Have a great weekend ❤❤❤

I totally agree Frances, blind buying just wasn't a thing was it? I just think fragrance was seen as more of a luxury, now it's a disposable product. I guess this stems a little from the makeup community and the popularity of declutters there. There's a greater message about our consumerist driven society really. I guess the one saving grace with fragrance is that it can be passed on easily and used by others. I hope that has what has happened with these declutters. ☺️ Thank you! You too, have a fab weekend 🥰

I think that it also stems from "collections". My mother had one fragrance. It wasn't worn everyday, it was special. She sees my 100+ bottles and can't comprehend it. I declutter, because I collect. When I realize that what was once a love, has become overshadowed by something I've discovered and love more, I get rid of the others. It doesn't mean I bought it blindly or without thought. It was simply run it's course. If I didn't declutter I would have 1000 perfumes of which 90% were no longer enjoyed. What makes more sense?
@dr.claire.perfume
@dr.claire.perfume 7 ай бұрын
Yes decluttering makes sense if you continue to buy for sure, which is why I do declutter. You will always make some purchases too that aren't quite what you want in the longer term. It's better to pass them on and recoup some cash than to let them go to waste unloved and unused. 🥰

I think the fact that the big department stores closed down (in the UK anyway) has meant that you can only smell the trendy or more expensive perfumes in stores nowadays, that might explain some of the changes in collecting. Plus we can't return opened perfumes in the UK either so no changing your mind if a perfume doesn't work out for us! I never had to blind buy when I was young - even Boots had a huge perfume selection (it was splendid!) and tbf, I suspect that there just wasn't so much choice 20 / 30 years ago! I used to be able to go to Debenhams and House of Fraiser and bypass the counters to find the shelves of Cacharel, Calvin Klein, Gres etc but that hasn't been the case for quite some time now. When I was in my 20's, the idea that regular working class people would be buying £300+ perfumes like Delina and BR540 would have been utterly absurd! That's a noticeable change in my lifetime.... the whole market and therefore shopping habits have totally changed. My husband and I talk about this a lot because it also applies to devices and games. My stepson has an ipad and ps4 (amongst many other consoles) with countless games.... my sister and I shared a secondhand Sega Megadrive and had exactly 3 games and when we stopped using it my parents sold it. The world is SO different now!

You know what Claire is Halle has to do with trends as well. It’s like KZbin gives fragrances a platform(hype),a lifespan and an expiry date! It’s like if US KZbinrs get swept up in new fragrance brands or releases then those older fragrances seem outdated. This prompts KZbinrs to declutter to get cash, make space and to upgrade. This is an observation that I made last month when I did my declutter and perfume check. We KZbinrs in my opinion have a very big influence in these trends you’re highlighting in my opinion.
@dr.claire.perfume

I agree, when you're on KZbin, it gets boring to talk about the same fragrances all the time and audiences expect variations in content. An easy way to generate new content is to buy and review new fragrances. Similarly things get discontinued and so they can no longer be recommended as they can't be sourced to buy. So yes, KZbin content generation does force these cycles of hype and declutter for sure! Excellent point 👍

Some of those celebrity fragrances are sold in discount stores in the US, such as TJ Maxx and Ross. In most of those stores you are unable to test the fragrance, and when paired with the low price point they can tend to be impulse blind buys.

Yes! I agree! I think when things are cheaper people also spend less time thinking whether or not to buy them too! Sealed fragrances are incredibly annoying, especially if you know stock is cheap, fast moving and that line might not be seen again... Thanks for watching 🥰

I will say some people definitely abuse decluttering to continue their revolving-door marketing/monetary system behind the reasons I’m about to give. For me and probably others, I declutter for three valid-to-me reasons. 1. If a blind-buy, not done frequently anyways, strongly disagrees with me. 2. If I have too many of a scent profile, esp if the most expensive is not my personal best of the group, I’m decluttering. The redundancy oddly and deeply bothers me 😂. I eventually want to recover some money from the mistake of buying nice but similar perfumes, collecting dust because I have my favorite. 3. The purpose of having the fragrance in my collection is lost. This can relate to the previous or also a lifestyle change not allowing me to use for the specific purpose allotted to it. Or the smell I wanted it to be is no longer that with oxidation. Partly why I don’t have that many fragrances anymore, because I want to use them when they smell like what I love. Then finish, repeat. Lol I like the richness that comes with some fragrances overtime. Some may have note/s that didn’t bother me before, later overpowering everything. Also when the juice becomes richer, the texture or balanced blend I specifically wanted and bought the fragrance for changes too much.
@dr.claire.perfume
@dr.claire.perfume 7 ай бұрын
Those are good reasons. I also want a smaller collection, I feel that sampling is what I enjoy most really, but it's taken me a while to realise that. 🤣 I think part of the problem is that KZbin is very much geared up towards pushing the more generic content, so declutter videos tend to do well with views and therefore also with income and that means content creators are rewards for making those videos. It's a vicious cycle when content creators are also being gifted fragrances to "haul" by companies or reviewing releases within a few hours of receiving them. Have a fab weekend and thanks for watching 🥰

In the future I am predicting that the Middle Eastern perfumes will catch up with the other categories in terms of declutters. Like you said, it's low risk and often cheaper/easier to buy the full size. I do wish some of the Middle Eastern perfumes would come in smaller bottles (10-30 ml) but I doubt this would be cost effective 😅
@dr.claire.perfume
@dr.claire.perfume 7 ай бұрын
I think you are right! There's been an explosion in the number of people buying the cheaper Middle Eastern brands and this is creating a bubble that will result in lots more declutters as people get tired of them and move on. I've seen Ansaam Gold and Nebras in 20 ml bottles, but not really the others unfortunately, I agree, smaller bottles would be better, but clearly not cost effective with their pricepoints... Watching all this fragrance content just seems to convince me that I need to try more. And it’s great fun - unfortunately 😳🤷🏼‍♀️ For the vast majority of my adult life I owned 10 bottles or less. This resonates with me - I own more perfumes than I ever imagined I’d ever own in my lifetime now; but I also wait, evaluate if a new perfume I’m interested in potentially has a place within a certain ‘frag genre/family’ category in my carefully cultivated collection (of which I have no intention or desire to spend the time decluttering) before buying.

One variable that is overlooked and jumped in my mind whilst watching the video was that declutter videos are mostly coming from women, i can’t think of a male ytuber who does it off the top of my head lol Btw on the clone declutter, if you’re talking about ksenja she has a bad habit of doing paid sponsored videos about clone brand that she ends up decluttering because she bought the og perfume when she sells the clones like they are the best thing you could find even compared to the og and approved by her, i told her that and also that she ends up looking like a glorified sephora sales rep. When she just found out the difference between edt, edp and eau de cologne when in her julianna videos she kept pushing the whole extrait de parfum argument which further shows that just reads the prompt of the brand and get it over with, for plenty its about consumption rather than just enjoyment, thats why so many switched from makeup to fragrances when makeup got too redundant to ignore. Great idea for a video btw, you always deliver personal great videos that are genuinely specific to you, bravo.
@dr.claire.perfume
@dr.claire.perfume 7 ай бұрын
Yes!!! This! I have seen one declutter ever from a male youtuber! The difference in content is striking isn't it? Is it maybe because in general women buy more fragrance? Or are more willing to say they've made a mistake in their choices? I don't think Ksenja featured actually, but yes 🙂 I agree, there are people who give their genuine opinions, warts and all, and thoroughly test fragrances and those that just do sponsored videos and posts and stick to what brands tell them... Nothing turns me off a channel quicker than sponsored content. I was gifted 10 clone fragrances back in the summer and wow, I'd never got any PR before that but sheesh, reviewing those was sooo much work! I wore each one several days and also had to seek out the originals in store or in samples in order to make comparisons. I began to realise just how little other people must bother, because the whole thing took me more than a month and the video got about 1000 views, which from my point of view, is not great. 😬 Anyway I hope my review of that brand helps someone to make an informed decision on them at least. Thanks for watching and thanks for your lovely compliments! It's so nice to read that! Have a fab weekend. 🥰

I'm not sure really. I guess women maybe like watching that kind of content and men don't? Generally people make the videos that get views. I really like this video topic and find it really interesting. Mostly interesting because it helps to narrow down what reviewers really love enough to keep in their collections. I find that fascinating. I don't watch too many declutter (or haul) videos, but the ones I have seen I was often irritated because some of those that were decluttered were fragrances that not too long ago they were just gushing over how good they were. That is enough to turn me off from a channel completely - oh yes, I've gotten to be hard about it :)

Thank you! I have a similar video coming this Saturday hopefully. I think this analysis is really confounded by the decluttering of PR and also the fragrances that people buy to review. It sounds weird, but new celebrity fragrances get lots of views so lots of people buy them when they are first released to talk about them and then end up decluttering them later. 🥰

Hi Kathy, yes, it seems the gifted and hyped brands are the ones that tend to be the most decluttered in general. I guess we'd expect that. Yes, it's an added bonus for people buying to review or even being gifted to review that the offloading of the fragrances brings as much watch income and views as the reviews in the first place and allows creators to resell to recoup costs too. It's definitely a cycle that seems to work on KZbin. 🥰

I ended up decluttering Eden juicy apple and I think it was probably the most controversial thing I ever decluttered, along with the Lattafa fragrances... I guess a lot of people love them! Pink Friday seemed like it was a really popular one at one point. My impression of it was that it was a little tropical, is that right? I never tried it... The Banana Republic ones I didn't get the hype with really. I tried the tonka and the red one and they were fine but they had a strange texture that didn't appeal to me, but clearly a lot of people did seem to love those on KZbin... They came out with at least 7 fragrances this year... I've barely checked them out, and I'm already over them. 🤨 Montale and Mancera are kinda talked about as gateway niche. But they can be tricky to enjoy... Have a nice weekend! ❤

Thank you ❤️ yes, for sure this needs more data, the trends were only just beginning to become visible. And ultimately the highlighted brands and fragrances may be simply anomalies when the sample size is this small in comparison to the number of fragrances on the market... Lattafa I've tried a few from and I've struggled. I understand why they might be getting decluttered, and yes they are affordable. Kayali are just very very hyped and I think releasing that many fragrances in a year won't be doing them any favours because they don't have time to accumulate a fan base before the next one appears... Montale and Mancera I've tried quite a few from and I've not really loved any of them. I do enjoy wearing intense café occasionally but it's definitely not one I reach for often. I would like to try a few more of those brands though. I was struck here by just how much overlap there was in my 5 brands I love, 5 brands I don't understand video. I’m wondering if people are decluttering certain perfume notes. It seems that people are decluttering “newer” perfumes than “older” perfumes. This leads me to believe that since perfumes gained massive traction due to the pandemic, and the explosion caused prices to go up, yet quality declined, that perhaps these declutters are due to specific notes or aroma chemicals or something to that effect. It’s a suspicion of mine. As for niche, I’m not surprised that more of those are decluttered compared to designer. Designer perfumes are created to be mass appealing, niche isn’t. So perhaps the person didn’t like the scent profile on themselves and therefore decluttered the fragrance. On the other hand, I think designer perfumes are being decluttered at such a high rate due to how fast they are churning out flankers that smell nearly identical (so there’s no real thoughtfulness put into the creation) and the cheapness in quality. For example, I have My Way Intense and My Way Floral. Initially I could detect a difference in the perfumes that was significant enough to like and own both. Intense was more of a sweet, bubblegum perfume. Floral was a lighter version, a bit more airy. Now Floral seems a bit more green to me (and I don’t like green perfumes) after sitting for about a year. I almost regret letting it sit for so long, but I have so many perfumes that I needed to get use out of other ones and rotate for the season. I’m quite irritated with My Way Floral now. Also for reference, I went to smell the new Nectar one and really felt disappointed. That smells just like all the other My Way releases. Compare these flankers to ones from the past like Poison (I know they are different brands). Poison, Pure Poison and Hypnotic Poison smell completely different. There was just more thought and effort put behind flanker releases years ago. I’m wish brands would focus more on the quality. People will be hyped when a new, long awaited release occurs, compared to churning out nearly identical smelling flankers. Another thing it makes me wonder, is that because these companies are churning out so many flankers, and the materials are limited in quantity, if that is almost causing them to “water down” or “cheapen” the materials used. Maybe putting in more filler ingredients. Many KZbinrs were pushing beastmode fragrances, with intense projection and sillage. Fragrances from the 80s and 90s were definitely bombastic, even the lighter ones had a beautiful presence to them. But fragrances currently on the market seem to have these very cheap/low quality, off-putting aroma chemicals to PUSH this projection and sillage. I don’t understand what changed between years past and now? Why were fragrances powerhouses in the past without smelling forced and overdone? Also, random question I’ve been meaning to ask: What type/kind of scientist are you? In what field/area, is what I mean? There are so many and I was quite curious.

I'm a medical researcher for a university, I work on dental enamel, that's my love, I've discovered a lot of the disease genes for developmental defects of enamel. I've also worked on drug screening, disease modelling, plant and human epigenetics, toxin analysis... I've done lots of different jobs, but I just became a lecturer ☺️ I start in May. I have no idea what the change is from the 80s with fragrances, I do wonder whether it was a change in the regulations regarding which musks are allowed to be used perhaps? Musk was really the universal starting point for fragrances so that might be it. It could also be the growth in use of ambroxan, iso E super and cashmeran? Although I know ambrox is in short supply at the moment so I am interested to know what direction designer perfumery takes now! Thanks for watching 🥰
@Demi1369
@Demi1369 3 ай бұрын
@@dr.claire.perfume Oh wow! You’ve had a lot of really cool jobs and work! Congratulations on becoming a lecturer! You’ll do amazing for sure! There have been enormous changes in perfumery due to regulations. One such lament from those who enjoy older perfumes was that real civet is no longer allowed. So my guess is that creating the synthetic version, although chemically it is the same, it is not really exactly the same as the natural thing. So yup, musks for sure. Also the rise of all the other molecules mentioned (Ambroxan, Iso E Super, Cashmeran, etc.) I’ve noticed that cheaper perfumes are now bothersome to me and even many recent designer releases. The only common denominator must be the use of newer molecules, which might be cheaply made material. I’m not sure, I actually have to research that. I do know that they’re used in perfumery to make a fragrance project more, have longer sillage and more lasting power. I haven’t made any trips to larger, upscale department stores to smell/sample niche because I really don’t need to obsess over more expensive perfumes when I have so many I need to get through in my collection. What I do know is that I’m having a similar issue that Carmen Scentrix is having with fragrance; my nose picks up on certain notes which have become bothersome/unpleasant and headache inducing. If I could deduce what is causing it, and if there’s a way to detect a tipping point where too much of this note is an automatic fail or any amount is a complete fail, then I would know what fragrances to avoid. I’ve been collecting perfume for about 20 years now, and I’ve never had this issue in the past. It’s more so become one in approximately the last 5 years of collecting. That’s roughly the time when many changes in the overall beauty community occurred as well. Maybe it’s time I follow your footsteps, put on my own research hat and collect data in an attempt to reach a conclusion. 🤓📝 Always a pleasure watching your videos! 🥰💕

Thank you 😊 I do think that there has been a huge rise in use of certain aromachemicals that seem to be very prominent across the board. I don't think it's only cheaper designer either. I was totally expecting designer to be the biggest group so was surprised to see niche being decluttered most! I guess niche can be harder to wear for many people but also probably holds it's value well if you know where to sell?! It's definitely true though that the bigger youtubers get so much PR that they must need to get rid of stuff that's just not doing it for them. I kept seeing Roja popping up recently (clearly sent for free) which didn't seem to be quite up the reviewers street and I couldn't believe how expensive that brand was when I saw them online! I'd definitely sell that on and then take myself out for a nice meal and buy a much cheaper perfume 😂

Yeah I think some of the makeup content creators seems to have become more responsible with PR, I know some are deliberately being selective with what they accept and trying to limit things like entire shade ranges of foundations being gifted. I guess with fragrance it's less predictable so maybe harder to be selective. Roja are notorious for gifting fragrances. I've never tried any so I can't judge with regard to whether I like them or not, but yes they are crazily expensive. I'd like to think that if I were gifted anything that I didn't love by a brand that I would give it to someone who did. I've seen creators reselling gifted fragrances quietly (not mentioning the declutter on their channels) on eBay after raving about them only a month or three earlier e.g. one creator who was gifted a Fragrance du Bois, so I know people do resell, even if they don't say that 🤣 Thanks for watching 🥰

I found this video super interesting! Zara perfumes are indeed fast fashion. I always thought that. They get purchased and decluttered just like that because they come and go, they’re popular one month, hyped up by everyone on Yt and them they are forgotten. I prefer to use fragrances that are classic, well loved, unique… I’ve yet to find more than one or two scents from Zara that I actually loved.

Yes, I have seen people buy the entire Zara range on KZbin, maybe 30 fragrances at once, but I get it, because those videos get lots of views. From my own point of view, I'd never ever do that, I wouldn't want a shelf of probably 29 fragrances that I felt underwhelmed by. It would seem wasteful. I do own one from Zara, exotic mimosa, but I hardly reach for it as there are other fragrances that I ultimately prefer. Thanks for watching 🥰

Hi Clare, an interesting way to look at the perfume industry and decluttering. Before watching this I had a bet with myself that my Middle Eastern signature scent would be mentioned and yep , there it was, so if someone is in Australia wanting to ' declutter' Opulent Red, please let me know. I love that perfume and I realize that it is a very polarizing perfume but that's fine with me. As long as no one walks away or moves away from me because they feel offended by perfume I can take criticism about my favourite ME perfume. However, when I wear it I do always get compliments and questions what I am wearing. With friends who have asked me and love me wearing this, I actually told them that a lot of people hate this and to try it out first. I had some people not believing me this was what I was wearing when they smelled the top notes, which has been quite funny. I think this perfume ( on my skin) shines as it dries down. One thing that I find interesting whilst there is of course scientific reasons for loving perfumes and their notes there are emotional responses to perfumes that not one person could predict. For me I have noticed that most perfumes I have loved and love have some emotional connection , sometimes I cannot tell what it is at first but there is always something. I must admit that it would never ever cross my mind to declutter because some influencer suggests but perhaps some people are subconsciously influenced. I love perfume and especially Middle Eastern perfumes and I sometimes feel there are too many people talking about perfumes, rather than wearing them and enjoying them.

I've not tried Opulent Red, I know it's compared to Alien but to me, they don't sound similar, are they? I used to own Opulent Musk, that's the only one I've tried from that line though. I do think that some of people's YT collections will inevitably be unused and unloved, there is always going to be bias towards a few fragrances in people's lives, you have to be pretty disciplined to reach for something different every day... I know, I've tried! 🥰

@@dr.claire.perfume Hi, I actually do try and wear a different perfume every day or second day and on occasions, especially when it was very warm and I have had 2 showers or so, changed my perfume during the day ( maximum of 3 perfumes I think, usually in the same scent family) but mostly I do tend to wear one perfume for 2 days and then change. But I do gravitate towards my beloved Opulent Red, I love the OG Alien but would not say they are similar, Ajmal Sacrifice is a lighter more wearable version ( with an aquatic note) than the OG Alien and I do love wearing that one ( no one ever finds this to cloying as some find Alien to be). I think Opulent Red is woody ambery oriental, but also fruity (Blood Orange, Peach) , spicy (pink pepper, cardamom, white floral( Jasmine and Tuberose) , with hint of cognac, all on this base of Oud), Vanilla, Amber, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Patchouli and woody musky notes ( Cashmeran). I can actually smell all these notes which is why I am so in love and bewitched by this magical perfume. So many notes but to me they are all in harmony and blended to perfection, again I am aware of how many people smell harsh notes and not the individual notes. When it dries down it is so incredible feminine and comforting and yet somehow like a fairy tale from 1001 Arabian Nights. My best friend in Germany blind bought this ( and 2 other ME perfumes after I told her about these, the notes etc) and she loves them just as much. I think Opulent Musk is very different from what I remember compared to Red. You have to like strong perfumes though as it is not for the faint hearted but after a few hours even people who hate strong perfumes mention how they love the perfume. I feel it is a 'misunderstood' perfume and I feel not a 'dupe' for any other scent, which I am glad of. Nothing I own is quite es complex, it is filled with some contradictions but on my skin it works. After decades of spending a lot of money on very expensive perfumes I cannot believe how I found perfumes I love so dearly at a fraction of the cost. I feel perhaps I was a bit of a perfume snob but no longer, I am converted. 🤣 Isn't perfume wonderful, it gets us talking or writing about it and it is something you either love or hate but most of us enjoy wearing a perfume. Warmest regards to you from sunny Tasmania, Tia 🦘🦜

@@dr.claire.perfume 😂 Oh, that was not intended 😄. But really if you can get a sample or chance to smell it , I have found that people either love or loathe this perfume. I love complex scents and also the way they dry down, the older I get ( I used to love chypre perfumes the most) the more I am into the woody amber "florientals" . But to me Opulent Red can fall into a few categories as it has so much going on, but it is more of a rock opera rather than sweet love song. But the notes sing and to me are truly perfectly matched. If those notes appeal to you in general you may be OK to blind buy this, especially since you can get it on sale for very cheap prices. If you do get it, I would love to know what you think ! 🤩

Very interesting statistics you came up with Claire. Really appreciated and I think what we can take as lesson is to be more precautious when purchasing fragrances as not to end up in this circle of buying and decluttering. I know is a new trend in the recent years and kind of like saddens me, but again, some of us just might get on the hype train and later on end up realizing that it is not for us and end up decluttering . Was surprised about Dior Prive line to be honest

It's perfectly understandable to want to declutter occasionally, maybe not every single month though 😂 I definitely feel happier about my collection now I am doing less blind buying and sampling more but I understand too that that's not always possible. I guess with those two Dior privée fragrances, they've had so much hype and having tried Vanilla Diorama, it really wasn't what I expected at all! I was shocked by it! If fève délicieuse is similar then I understand people could be blind buying those and then realising they weren't what they'd imagined... Thanks for watching 🥰 have a lovely week.

Thanks Claire, that was a very entertaining and clever video. It is a pity that this sort of "scientific" approach is not taken more often, but also a pity that the limitations of size and selectiveness of the data set and the lack of controls and comparators rendered the entire quantitative analysis... well, inconclusive. I really enjoyed your cautious and insightful discussion of the limitations towards the end of the video. Still, without having access to equivalent "on-cluttering" / steady-state / retention data (and many other parameters), all we are left with is speculation. Well, at least it is clever speculation 😊 ... and excellent food for thought, as always. Thanks!

An interesting vid Claire!! Especially the niche fragrances bit. 😉 Meticulous design and the summary and conclusions totally reads like a discussion section. 🤭 Academics would recognize the style anywhere. Would've been interesting to include the vid dates in the descriptives to see if creators were taking advantage of particular times of the year to get some cash back; i.e. selling the more pricey items during times of high demand. What I find particularly intriguing is the relative lack of declutter vids from male content creators. 🤔 In the decade or so that I've been watching, I think I may have seen...maybe 3? And they certainly didn't use the declutter term. Any hypotheses on why that might be? Could be an insightful thread if anyone has some insight! ❤

Haha, yes I'm an academic and you can spot me a mile off 🤣 It's interesting that you mention the lack of declutter videos from male creators! Someone else pointed that out to me the other day too! I think I've seen one declutter video ever from a male creator. They must declutter surely? Or do they all hoard?! Maybe they don't see that as legitimate content or are worried to go back on their words if they've previously said they loved something? Maybe they just resell them on the quiet? Who knows? Yes I think there may be something in hitting the high demand times for some people. Black Friday is for sure one of those times, weirdly I've even found things sell better at the beginning of each month compared with closer to the end, I guess because people have just been paid then?! This would be much better as a larger, multiseasonal study, but after watching that many videos, I was done 🤣

The sample size may be small but I can bet majority of the videos you watched are US based reviewers. The luxury of returning fragrances opposed to let's say in the UK for example, is taken advantage of. Some as i have observed, get some fragrances for review and simply return them with their 'declutter ' video 😊 If you observe enough, you may know 🫣 And yes there are genuine declutters too. I forsee many more middle eastern perfumes being decluttered because it is 'trendy' at the moment and many more niche snobs are jumping on it for the meantime but will not want to 'dilute' their brand so most will be decluttered after review. I have personally seen that. There's a lot more to letting fragrances go. Brilliant video, as always 👏 Looking forward to more ❤

Yeah, I wondered whether to put that in, but in some cases, I wasn't sure exactly whether they were US or Canadian. There were also some UK channels. All declutterers were female though, but I did search for perfume rather than fragrance declutter so that might explain that. And yes there was one channel, namely Ai the great, who clearly was making a declutter video from the fragrances she returned 🤣 they were all brand new releases! I was pretty shocked. But I guess people buy to review and then return in the US. That is just a very alien concept in the UK. Yes I agree, Lattafa is one of the most hyped brands out there and people know those haul videos get views, so they will buy them whether they love the brand or not. It's going to be something most newbies try and maybe something most larger channels do occasionally too. I don't know, for me niche in general isn't all that a lot of the time, I've rarely smelt something that I think wow and start searching for right away, and in general, those have been brands that are hard to get here e.g. l'orchestre parfums or the cheaper niche like Miller Harris that I can easily get secondhand. With niche, there are brands that I really don't get along with, like BDK, some modern Penhaligons, Creed and PDM for example. But those use a tonne of ambroxan and I find that is something that I sometimes can't tolerate. It's weird though cos I sometimes love ambroxan in certain fragrances. I still didn't work that one out 🤔 Thanks for watching 🥰

@dr.claire.perfume I am so glad lots of people are reading between the lines as to if these are genuine declutters or returns. Even the blind can see that. Now that I am trying more niche fragrances, I am appreciating my clones more because not only are most spot on, but I also do not find anything overly exciting (of course, there have been exceptions). I feel there's this sense of belonging and being part of a movement that is satisfying for some. Clearly not wanting to miss out or 'peer pressure'. Well.......maybe if I had that disposable income I might have also been part 😄 But seriously, no. Some declutters and empties are ridiculous to watch
