Frags have always been "the same". Every era has its popular accords. I like men's fragrances in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Guerlain Heritage, YSL Jazz, Ralph Lauren Safari, Escada Pour Homme, Tiffany for Men, Guerlain Derby, Salvador Dali Salvador for example. All similar. Further back we had some Spicy Orientals like Youth Dew, YSL Opium, Cinnabar etc. Animalic men's frags of the 80's like YSL Kouros, Chanel Anteus, Dior Jules, etc. Every era has its zeitgeist. Today we are in the era of Gourmands.

That is so accurate. It’s like saying lately all jeans seem to look baggy…there are eras esp. in scent. Remember the discovery of aldehydes in the 70’s? I think that is why people wear perfumes to try and get some thing original. That said I have some older gems and even some new perfumes that I think are quite distinct.

I smelt it in store and loved it, then I smelt it elsewhere and didn't like it and was confused 😂 and then I read it had been reformulated and I went back to check the original tester bottle that I tried's batch code and it was very old (they store it in a cupboard so no one uses it up 🙄) so I bought an older one and I'm very happy. What a journey... 😂 I agree with you. In the drydown, it can be hard to identify and discern one thing from another sometimes if the fragrances are similar overall.

There hasn’t been anything that has blown my socks off lately however I’m leaning toward disagreeing that everything smells the same. I’m selling my Billie Eilish vanilla and keeping my Bianco Latte. To me they smell very different. I do admit my commodity milk and Navitus lost in a dream are almost too similar (not a complete dupe) however no where near close to my Kyse marshmallow (not spelling the actual name bc I’m lazy) or my Moresque Seta or Maison Mataha Gourmand Escapade. Andalusian Soul is so mild to me I do feel it’s a bit boring and is similar to all things vanilla. To me Babycat and Lune Feline are very close, actually too close to own both. I guess I half agree and half disagree with you. To look on the bright side. I’m happy (more like my wallet) this is happening so I don’t buy anymore perfume.

Hi Vanessa. I'm so grateful for this comment. It's so important that we have the opportunity to state our truth the way we see it. I WISH I could smell what others smell in BL!!! I find the Delizi di Marshmallow (I cheat and do these on my computer instead of my phone, so I can quickly type the whole name! :p) smells so similar to Tihota and Vanille Absolu in the opening. I'm TOTALLY going to blind buy Gourmand Escapade even though people say it smells like Vaniglia. I can't help myself! I've heard a lot of people compare Babyct to Lune Feline. I wore Babycat on one hand yesterday and Eau Duelle (Dyptique) on the other yesterday, and I do think that they are very similar, although I prefer Eau Duelle. I've not smelled Lune Feline, but, of course, it's in a cart somewhere...I like the bright side of this, and I agree that my wallet is happier now that I know that I don't need 20 of the same thing. Thank you so much for hanging out with me. Sorry for the long comment. I get wrapped up in this stuff!!! Take care!!!

Not necessarily saying the perfumes you mentioned- but a lot of perfumes I notice that smell the same- amd I JUST said this to my boyfriend- contain some type of 1. Jasmine related scent 2. Yes, many fragrances are close enough that they become redundant. I think it’s just because vanilla gourmands are in style now. I haven’t smelled all the ones you mentioned, but I don’t think that Eilish and Bianco Latte smell anything alike. Bianco Latte is very lactonic to me, while Eilish is dry and powdery (like hot cocoa powder), but that’s just me. I actually think Indult Tihota smells like Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Lace. I didn’t smell the original formulation of BBW Warm Vanilla Sugar, but it’s not gourmand now if it was before. I think all of those other vanillas are more gourmand. And I’ve heard that Commodity Milk also smells similar to BBW Sweet Whiskey. It seems like perfume houses started duping old BBW scents, and now BBW is duping perfumes.

Hi lavender_coffee. Mmmm. Lavender coffee. Now I want to smell Coffee Break from MM. I think you're exactly right about the gourmand being a trend right now. My friend and co-worker, who is the only other person I know in real life who likes perfume and has smelled both BE and BL said the same thing; she doesn't see the similarity, and yet they smell EXACTLY the same to me. I guess in the world of scent, since you cannot patent a SMELL, they can do pretty much anything they want. Having said that, what if it IS a coincidence? I mean, it's probably not, but who can say? Everything is smelling the same right now so I'm only adding things to my collection that are different to what I already have. I found a gem recently that's unique and unlike anything I've ever tried. It's called Lattafa Musamam White Intense. It's a complex, unisex sweet citrusy fragrance that is both elegant and signature scent worthy. I hope you get to try it soon, if you haven't already. ❤❤ Billie Eilish was a major fail for me. It had a synthetic almost plasticky note that I could not get on with. I've never been interested in Bianco Latte either. Hi there, this is a pleasant surprise! I will have to do some side by sides to see for myself. I love Island Vanilla and Absolute Aphrodisiac, but never smelled one and thought of the other. I definitely don't find Casablanca and La Danza to be the same. I aboslutely LOVE La Danza yet Casablanca is NOT it for me (though I wish it were given the price point)! We all have different noses though and I do think a lot of the more straight forward vanillas have such subtle differences they're negligible. People say Oriana and Love by Kilian are practically the same and I don't get that at all. But I would also point out that it isn't only dupe houses that recreate certain fragrance profiles... plenty of designer and niche houses also create "their version" of a successful perfume, because if it makes one brand money the others want to ride that wave as well. Just something else to consider!

Hi Lauren! It's so nice to have you here!!! We're all so different when it comes to detecting similarities and differences. There's a comment above about the fact that I lack skill and that's why these all smell the same to me. I wouldn't have used the word "skill," but I do agree that my nose isn't at all sophisticated or trained. I just call 'em like I smell 'em. So many things to consider! Like, for example to agree with what you said about houses creating "their versions" of things, it seems to me that sometimes the reason we get such similar fragrances across brands is because the nose is the same. I'm looking at YOU, Quentin Bishce and Frances Kurkdijan. :)

I guess when we like a certain note (say, vanilla) or a certain category (say, gourmand) or a certain profile (say, sweet) things start to smell the same because, like, how many ways can there be to manipulate those same variables, right? I know that trends come and go and people jump on them, so it's only natural that we see similarities. But it's nice to know that I'm not alone. :)

I agree! “This just smells like that” I thinks that’s why if I find something unique I hold on tight lol, you probably need a break from vanilla 😉 I did not go crazy for bianco latte it’s that same condensed sweet milk that I’m so used to, you are not alone! 😊 so nice to see you ❤️

Hi beautiful Sonali. I DO need a break from vanilla. Right after I filmed this video the skies opened up and we had a snow storm that pretty much put us right back into winter, and so I'm going to post my "winter non-vanilla fragrances video" in May, because it's still freaking winter here. I'm so glad you're with me. It's always nice to see you. I love that you're back. I'm not commenting on videos these days (for a lot of reasons), but I'm always watching. xo

RIGHT!!!??? It's true. Things just aren't the same. In some ways that's good. It's progress. In some ways, though, things are going backwards. Fragrances back in the day did smell unique. There's hope that new trends will bring us new profiles to get excited about. Thanks so much for hanging out with me today and for taking the time to comment. That's so kind of you!

Last night for the first time after seeing this comment I went IN on the AA. I'd been only spraying one spray and savouring it. With one spray, the two fragrances are ridiculously similar. With more than one, they are not the same at all. I still LERVE both, but now I smell the "sexiness" of the AA. And yes, Island Vanilla is not very long lasting.

Hehehe Julija! ❤ yes yes, Perdizzione, Guimauve de Noël, LVEB L’éclat edt, Sintra, Oriana and Love Don’t be shy are all really look alike sisters to me! Like a 10% difference in between them… La Fleur bouquet and Levant by Ormonde Jayne are so similar! Also similar to Fleur Narcotique by Oil Perfumery. It took a while to realize all this but it came from me trying to diversify my collection instead of buying all the same all the time! 😅
@ScentSiblingsDotCA7 ай бұрын
Hi my lovely friend. I totally noticed that Sintra, Oriana and Love Don't Be Shy all smell very similar, too. You're right, of course; it's time to diversify. But the heart wants what the heart wants. And my heart wants Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia by Guerlain, which is discontinued and impossible to find. Then, and only then, will I be satisfied with my vanilla collection. Until the next one...

When I first got into perfumes a few years ago, everything I smelled just smelled “sweet” to me.. like all the designer perfumes in the shoppers discovery set for example- I was like they’re all just.. sweet! And yes I agree, with just about every vanilla sample I get these days I can’t really differentiate them from one another. Love your pronunciation of La Danza! 😅🙌🏻 I own that and Casablanca and they do have very similar aspects but those 2 I actually can tell apart.. I just got a sample of coconut palm and haven’t smelled it yet but I will compare it to my sample of Milk! Which one, the original? I think I have the expressive.. This is actually why I do all of my sample sniff videos because I smell these expensive perfumes and find that it smells exactly like something less expensive! Savin’ peeps some coins! (If they want to!) 😅😉
@ScentSiblingsDotCA7 ай бұрын
I totally get it. For me, everything just smelled like "flowers" or just straight up "perfume". The Milk is the one in the black bottle with no + on it. I was so struck by the similarity, and I'm sure that they're probably nothing alike to anyone else, but to my nose, they're almost identical. I love that you're savin' the peeps some coins, my friend. Carry on the good work! xo
@corinalymburner11217 ай бұрын
I’m sure the similarities you’ve found in those frags ARE shared by others - will you declutter those you find to be dupes so you don’t have that aggravation? …not being a big vanilla or gourmand lover, I can’t speak to fragrances with that note. But, I do check Fragrantica before buying anything & refer to the fragrances listed in their ‘smells like’ (or maybe it’s ‘similar to’?, anyway…) before purchasing - it’s helpful! SO good to see you, AS ALWAYS❤ Sending big lovey hugs & hope you’re having a nice Spring so far up there in the Great White North!😘☀️🌲🌼

Hi Corina, you sweet thing you! I want to declutter. I NEED to declutter. GIVE ME STRENGTH, I MUST DECLUTTER. I'm just not ready! I love the "reminds me of" lists on Fragrantica - they're always all over the place, just like me! There's no such thing as spring here. Name a fragrance released within the past five years that isn't a flanker. I'll wait. Go online, get yourself some samples of niche and indie fragrances, and buy what you love. Frequently these companies you buy direct from will give you far better deals than department stores with their colossal overheads.

Have you tried indie house perfumes, like Alkemia or Deconstructing Eden or Poesie or something really small business- I've absolutely fallen in love with these houses !! As well as Fantome... I've found none of the designer or mainstream houses, with a few exceptions, have ever really "wow"'d me or they smell so similar to perfumes I remember my Mom wearing. But these small indie houses have such fascinating compositions and just the INSPIRATIONS they have are so much more unique, in my mind. Love this style of video! 🙏💗 I got nervous every time you lowered your eyes to look at the camera, please be safe- this was a great vlog that felt like I was on a drive with a friend 💓😂

I have tried and loved a couple of very small indie brands, and you're 100000% CORRECT - they are where it's at in terms of unique scents that are more of an experience than a perfume. I will copy and paste your suggestions and take a look. Thank you, my new friend. :) I hope to see you again. xo

I have to agree. The car is so distracting, and all I could think of is as you age ( as we all age!) this will become increasingly impossible to do .. I am not trying to offend you. It is just a reality. You sort of think you can concentrate but it’s not really possible. That said when I listen or watch Perfume videos I want to relax, and I am so agitated with all the noise and your hands off the wheel, I also agree you have a lot to say about Perfume that I really would like to tune in for, but I need a little serenity. It is difficult to find anyone that has any substance and you obviously have a lot so I will come back for your new videos. You are right that perfume to begin to smell the same, but there are trends to things like some other people have mentioned. I have some perfumes that I buy remakes of because I do change a little bit, but they are still extremely unique. Try Cristal by Chanel for instance. The new Miss Dior Parfum is also pretty special. But to your point, this is also why people there perfumes to try and get a different dimension or a very unique scent by combining. Also older ears of perfume are often more complex, but people feel that they smell older too vintage, which is a pity because there was a lot of complexity to them.
