I've always thought Ami's return was the most disappointing. Went from the women's kingpin calling the shots with an emotional edge and intrigue to her character to her return where she seemed wholly lost, fizzled out, and ended her run by groveling to Ozzy with tears in her eyes. It was a huge difference from her first run. She ended up revealing it was because she lost a very close friend right before the game and she was in the wrong headspace, which is very understandable.

Agree I would have loved to see Ami with the Black Widow Brigade at the end. I’d put Ami on the list over Yau Man because Yau Man came off as very unlucky and was the biggest threat of his alliance.

In fairness to both Ami and Yau-Man, the Fairplay quit at the first tribal really messed up their games. Fairplay was 100% with them to take out Parv/Ozzy/Amanda/James and his quit ruined their numbers and caused Cirie to flip. Ami also got screwed after the tribe swap where she was a key part of setting up a plan to blindside Ozzy, which got ruined by Chet quitting. Two unfortunate quits really screwed her that season

For me, it was Russell Hantz’s third outing. He essentially played the same game in his first two seasons, but he could get away with that because nobody knew who he was on Heroes vs Villains. He tried the same strategy again on the third season, but everyone was wise to it and booted him early. The man made zero effort to evolve his game.

To be fair, it VERY nearly didn't work his second time in HvV and required a Hail Mary play at the Tyson vote to work out in order for him to do well. He banked on similar plays to work out in Redemption Island and Australian Survivor and they simply didn't, whereas he would've survived the first vote in both those cases had he played to survive the vote rather than hoping he lucked out and had a smooth path going forward.

If he was just brought in some random season and he nor the host mentioned that he was already a veteran survivor player, he could've MAYBE fared a bit better

I feel like Danni from Winners at War, while more recent, is still definitely worth a mention. It's well known that she turned down numerous offers to come back, and would only play again under the condition that it was an all-winners season. She finally gets that opportunity, and not only tanks her own game early on, but every other old school players' as well. Truly astonishing.

4:53 apparently, Brenda just ended a relationship with an ex before the season began and it was really messy and she wasn't in the best state. she cried a lot in the game and was really passive in camp to, per post-season interviews.

To me, Francesca on Caramoan was really disappointing because I was super excited to see how a first boot would navigate the game. It really felt like they cast her just to force her to be a first boot again so I was annoyed at production for that lol

Watching Rob and Parvati come together in the premiere was legit one of my favorite moments on the show. I was so disappointed when they lost the numbers and were both gone early. Honestly, the boot list was so disappointing and only saved by an unbelievable Tony win. One other bright spot was seeing Sophie get the love she deserves

Players like Brenda and Ami were really interesting on their returning seasons, even though I guess you could also say they were disappointing. It really shows how much the way someone plays Survivor is impacted by what they're up to in their real life. Both were seen as cutthroat villains in their first seasons, but came back and really struggled to separate their emotions from the game.

She was invisible for most of the game which was very disappointing as she was a strategic force in her first season. She will be remembered in S26 for her jury question to Dawn which was epic. BTW: bring back individual jury questions at final tribal. We haven't had a moment during FTC since they started with the boring open forum in S34

Couple things: 1) I’ve always said Hayden from BB/BvW should have come back in Game Changers instead of Caleb. Still get a crossover, but Hayden actually fits the theme a bit better. 2) You should do an inverse of this video: the players who came back and blew us away.

Maybe you can also do a video that’s a reverse of this, returning players who outperformed your expectations. An example might be Sarah Lacina. Mediocre performance in Cagayan but I don’t think many people expected her to comeback in game changers and dominate so much.

i feel like wentworth in cambodia would be #1 on that as well. we saw nothing in sjds other than her dad tanking her game, and she was kinda put into the cambodia vote in list as a pretty face. but then what she managed to pull off blew everyone away and she over the course of a few months became one of the 3 most iconic non winning women ever.

I won’t lie I was impressed with Sarah’s game changers game but I don’t think she’s a great winner, especially after watching her on the challenge usa and seeing how her win seemed undeserved in several aspects! My personal #1 pick would probably be Jeremy from Cambodia, because he had to change his playstyle completely from SJDS, and he had to overcome what a big target he easily could have become within Cambodia. Sure he did have the advantage of playing with more noticeable threats compared to SJDS, but the way he still managed to position himself when he could have been an early target worked so well for him! Wentworth played a solid underdog game but Jeremy was the best player that season imo!

David Wright on Edge of Extinction. His whole arc on season 33 resonated with me on a personal level and I loved watching him learn his style of play and continually surprise himself. The cast is pretty tight, and I thought it was an emotional season throughout. But, it also felt like one of David’s biggest strengths his first time out was his metamorphosis. It’s really difficult to replay that on a second go, and he wound up playing against numbers who just weren’t as easily swayed by the more overt appeals of loyalty and underdog social strategy.

J.T. is one of my all-time favourite players, but where he failed in gameplay, he more than made up for in entertainment. Both "Heroes vs. Villains" and especially "Game Changers" suffer after he's voted out, and his boot episodes are both equally iconic. I think it should be mandated for J.T. to be in every season of "Survivor," just as this random force of chaos that players have to deal with. To hell with the hourglass and the beware advantages; just give me a situation where a tribe "wins" J.T. for a few episodes.

@@midnalazuli793 Cambodia wasn't really a let down. A LOT of big players either kept their legacy or redeemed it despite not even making it as far. I'd say the only real let-downs in Cambodia were Vytas, Shirin, Peih-Gee, Woo and Wiglesworth. With Game Changers, I think at least half the cast had their worst or least memorable showings - basically everyone minus the three finalists, Cirie, Sierra, and Michaela were just... so unmemorable.

I think you can tell he was genuinely pissed off with how unbalanced the season was. He didn't appreciate how the first-time players weren't really given a fair shot, seeing as how they were five episodes in, and only won a single challenge against a tribe of veterans. Phillip and Corinne obviously weren't helping either.

A few more mentions: 1. Colby - Superman in Australia, mediocre in All Stars, wimp on HvV. 2. Tasha - her ugly side was in full swing on second chance, and she was ridiculously obnoxious, so unlike Spencer, Tasha actually earned her spot in the zero votes club. 3. Stephanie L - I had expectations from her after Palau, but she was very obnoxious in Guatemala, especially in the ftc, and it honestly seemed like the game was controlled by Rafe, not her. In HvV, despite the outbursts from James, I had no sympathy for Steph whatsoever, because her attempt to cop out of blowing the immunity challenge and not being a team player at all was just pitiful. 4. Russell Swan - I was excited to see him back, but his run in Philippines was very disappointing. Granted, it’s because of the poorly performing Matsing tribe, but I still wish he’d last longer. 5. Aubry - she disappointed in EoE not only for getting blindsided early with an idol in her possession, but also for giving her jury vote to someone who wasn’t even in the game for around 70% of the time. She can’t claim THIS vote was based on gameplay.

Varner being a disappointment for so many reasons. But I have to point out times before the controversy. Varner was basically the narrator of the first four episodes of Cambodia. He had very funny confessionals and he oozed charisma. He was so good in that season in terms of TV entertainment that Probst fought to have him in Game Changers. Now IN Game Changers and BEFORE what happened, Varner was much more under the radar. In fact I think he learned a lot from his mistakes and was in a really good position up until the second swap that screwed him and Sandra. The problem was he was also not as electric and in your face as he was and therefore left very little of an impact. From a TV standpoint that was a disappointment... ...And then his departure happened that turned the disappointment into a downfall. Being purple or not a game changer, but what happened at the tribal is the real disappointment. And that is a MAJOR understatement.

And the Zeke and Varner story is a whole thing in itself, and what I mean by that is Varner said that post-game there was stuff cut out of that tribal that we didn't see like the affection he got from the players when they realized he was sorry for what happened. And to be fair, this is an edited show. We only see what the show wants us to see, maybe you believe what I said about the stuff that wasn't shown or not but Varner was there so it more than likely happened (not trying to defend Varner or anything but just giving some two cents about the whole situation)

@@cameronholmes5590 when I first watched that episode I was annoyed but I tried to give Varner the benefit of the doubt because we saw him show remorse and the edit could have left a lot out. The problem now is that there is no doubt about what a bigot Varner is in real life. I found this out recently when he commented on the tweet of a non-binary person I follow saying that their identity is a product of their trauma and isn’t real, and then saw his tweets about how trans women are actually gay men whom were not allowed to be gender non-conforming males. It’s all just more bullshit within the anti-trans movement and Varner was just being a condescending asshole trying to push his hate after people would point out how harmful his lies are to others! I wish this all wasn’t true, and I wish the discussion of trans rights wasn’t filled with so many garbage people like Varner, but I also think people like him illustrate why the anti-trans movement should not be taken seriously. At the end of the day, trans people just want to live their lives, and yet Varner looked awful trying to paint Zeke as untrustworthy purely for being trans. Stuff like that really shows that the anti-trans movement isn’t helping anyone, it’s just making trans people suffer, and that is why it needs to stop!

If he acted even half as aggressive and disrespectful as he did in those tweets he would've just been done. The one good thing about all of it is that everyone stepped in to help Zeke, and Jeff also handled the situation well. Survivor was always ahead of the curve for this stuff.

@@Lechgang very true I like Zeke and was glad they brought him back for Game Changers along with Michaela from Millennials vs Gen X, so it was nice that people supported him during and after what happened with Varner. But it also really shows why trans people are such victims in all of this and not villains like how many bigots have tried to frame them. I mean many so called feminists will argue trans women present a danger to society and that they are the victims in all of this, but trans women are the true victims for how they cannot live their lives without someone trying to police them! Varner is the same way, seeing himself as a martyr for a necessary cause all while showing he is just a garbage human being inside and out!

apparently according to wentworth he was the first one on that new tribe they wanted to boot, they were really annoyed by him but they couldn't show that if they never went to tribal and he left to be with his family.

Top 10, in no particular order: The ones you already mentioned and precisely the same answer: Colton Cumbie in Blood vs. Water Kelly Wiglesworth at Cambodia Jeff Varner at Game Changers The ones I was genuinely disappointed with: Peih-Gee Law in Cambodia: PG was one of, if not my favorite player in China, but in Second Chance she was edited to have her whole arc as someone in Abi-Maria's path to chaos. There was nothing to be seen much of her, and much to my deception. Ethan Zohn in Winners at War: From all the old returnees, I had high hopes to see what Ethan could do after 18-19 years of winning (All-Stars doesn't count). But, in the end, there wasn't too much screentime or development and his elimination was to affect others in his alliance. "I expect nothing, and I'm still let down": Russell Swan in Philippines: Of all the returnees from that season, the one that not only was out of nowhere (If you would have told me that they were getting a medevac returnee that wasn't Skupin or Penner, I would have thought about Joe Dowdle or Kourtney Moon), but he still had problems with self-awareness, and being in a pretty bad tribe wasn't helpful at all. Candice Cody in both Heroes vs. Villains and in Blood vs. Water: It was pretty weird to see her in HvV, but I bet they needed someone to contrast the villainously of Parvati from Cook Islands and Becky Lee wasn't available. The problem was that she wasn't an important member of the Heroes Tribe or the Merge, not even when she flipped. And if you had told me that she was in BvW, I wouldn't have believed you. I didn't notice her, not even during her run in RI. Joe Anglim in Edge of Extinction: ... Do I even need to explain myself? He was the Purple Kelly of a lackluster season and didn't change his game plan as he had intended to. Other returnees: Rupert Boneham in Blood vs. Water: Cool to save your wife so she could play a couple more days I guess, but I don't think it was worth it. Not to mention that he got destroyed at RI J.T. Thomas: I was surprised he was called back. From all the players who made blunders and mistakes in Survivor history, and with Jeff Probst saying that "he could win again", it was pretty entertaining, and there was a chance for him to be as smart as he was in Tocantins... But he made the same type of mistakes as he did in HvV, and he made the wrong impact in Game Changers, not only having a disappointing run, but also causing the elimination of Malcolm and probably Sandra along the process...

Ethan’s Edge of Extinction screen time was the highlight of the season for me. Sure maybe he wasn’t in the game proper but he got a ton of screen time despite that and had an amazing arc of conquering his cancer.

Shirin Oskooi didn’t like what she saw of Vytas on tv, so for that we were robbed of more of him :( Plus I imagine part of his lousy edit was because he refused to be sequestered with the other pre merge boots and went home instead to be with his newborn son

It's not fair to label someone as a Disappointing player just because they weren't gifted a good edit. Brenda placed 6th but would've won the game if she was at the end. Her and especially Erik don't get the credit they deserve in Caramoan because it was basically the Cochran Coronation show.

all 4 returnees were doa on edge of extinction, so i feel like that whole thing's a wash. aubry was going home her first tribal that she didn't have immunity/didn't play an idol no matter what, same with j0e. wentworth and david were in good positions on their premerge tribes but again can anyone honestly say they expected either of them to make it past where they did?

Aubry's edit in Game Changers was a bit lacking, but I actually enjoyed the ups and downs story we got from her. I also enjoyed that she was like the one person who saw through Sarah in the endgame of Game Changers but nobody would jump on board with her to make a move.

I was disappointed all-throughout Winners at War. All the old-school players I loved to watch just lost the numbers and got targeted immediately. It was so cool to see Yul again and the Alliance of Boston Rob, Parvati and Ethan was something I hoped could have at least made the merge. I get they had big targets and weren't great at adapting to the younger winners, but other than Tony and Natalie getting back in, once they were all booted I lost interest.

Johnny Fairplay never really wanted to play Survivor again. Loved the exposure, loved the attention, loved the chance at a million dollars, hated the game. But at least on Pearl Islands he stood a chance to actually win the million. Not a chance in hell was that gonna happen once people actually knew him and his game. He just decided to earn an easy $2500 to turn up and goof off in Micronesia for a couple days. I believe he was always just going to quit or actively work to get voted off as early as possible.

I personally enjoyed watching Brenda in Caramoan. I feel like Andrea and Brenda almost flipped roles on Caramoa based on each’s first season. Watching Brenda, however, was fun, and she legitimately could’ve won had Cochran not urged everyone to vote her out. Not to mention, the drama that was added with the hole Dawn betrayal added a compelling dynamic to the end of the season and will go down in survivor history as one of the coldest moves ever. None of that would’ve come to fruition if Brenda weren’t so nice in Caramoa.

In fairness to Yau, the sole reason he was even targeted in the first place was Cirie. She realized he’d be too hard to control. Same thing goes for Rob Cesternino, as Boston Rob himself admitted to in a podcast.

For me it's Cirie HvsV not because she played badly (i think she was amazing with what she had) but because i truly think she was at her best during this season and they cut her too soon (hopefully for them). Without Tom she would take easely the entire control of the heroes team i think. She really show how Amanda could be so naive.

I don't think that's really fair. Colby and Tom both went into the game was a serious social disadvantage. It's clear Tom was capable strategically, but he just didn't have the numbers.

I think I would give Colby a pass in HvV because him and Jerri were just having fun together. Also Jerri was so close to winning and I feel like we would've seen more of Colby in the edit with Jerri as a power duo because they navigated the later half of the game together and completed their season long arc.

EoE shouldnt really be considered since the returning players never stood a chance. No matter how good their game play could have been, the united front against Aubrey and Joe wasnt their fault. Aubrey went home with an idol in her pocket, but even if she used it, she was the next boot.
