Reviewing the entire season of Survivor: Winners at War. Was it good, bad, or somewhere in between? Is it a top tier season or one of the worst?

Hoshiko Mizudori it’s been confirmed that Sandra’s elimination actually happened before Parvati’s- the episode was just edited to make it look like the Dakal tribal came after Sele’s since it had more theatrics with the double idol play (plus if you look at the bequeathal scenes after their eliminations, Sandra has the option to give her tokens to Parv but Parv does not have the option to give her tokens to Sandra).

Very rarely does the most entertaining player win the season, and Tony has broken that mold twice. It's ESPECIALLY crazy that this was an All Star season, which historically ends up with pretty UTR winners at the end. We're truly in the greatest timeline.

Yeah, I agree. Weirdly enough I think that his epic failure on Game Changers helped him in this season as it put a dent on his track record and kept him a smaller threat than he actually was.

Edge of Extinction isn’t my favorite thing on Survivor, but I feel it was absolutely needed this season. It would be such a let down if all the old school players were voted off first, and we never saw them again. Especially with no reunion show. I liked that we got a final goodbye to Sandra, Parvati, Rob, etc. But this definitely was my favorite season ever, and I never thought Survivor would ever top Heroes vs Villains. Tony was an absolute joy to watch and the ending of Cops R Us was amazing.

I do have to say one thing that was so crazy about this season was all the whispering happening during tribal council. To be honest tho, that whispering got too out of hand and when Denise snapped, the whispering stopped from that point on. Boy those were crazy tribal councils

This was the most fun season in quite a long time, yet I was pulling so hard for either Yul or Sophie that I'm disappointed.

It wasn't fair that he wasn't able to earn any fire tokens before the first challenge to get back in. He got punished for being the last voted out by getting no advantage in the challenge, which makes no sense considering he had played the best of all of them up to that point.

I mean she did the second one, but she had to work her butt off, and she deserved it because nobody else from yul to boston rob, to amber who literally did nothing, they did not deserve to get back in. And the longer people are in the game, the more rice and stuff they have eaten theoretically so the fire tokens on EOE helped for the challenge, but you also have to earn them and Yul DID have a chance to earn some just like nat, but did not get as many. Yul should have became friends with Nat on EOE like Tyson lol. Bad move on his part siding with the old timers because he is one I really felt had a chance at winning the game.

@@rileyesmay I'm referring specifically to the first challenge that Tyson won. Yul had been voted off the night before, so he had no chance to get tokens on eoe before the challenge. During the challenge, he was forced to go faster than Tyson and Rob in order to catch up, and was still neck and neck. Give him the extra 45sec he spent digging and he has a comfortable lead and can take it slowly rather than rushing to catch up.

To suggest it has a lot of luck is unreasonable in my opinion. Challenges, Strategy, and relationships which are the main portions of the game and how you get far are not luck-based.

I was afraid the Hyenas would win when Tony laid that out earlier in the season, but thankfully we got a Lion to crown as the winner. Due to the early gameplay, I wasn't sure anyone could make a big entertaining, dominant run like Tony did without being taken out as a meat shield...but he prevailed through it with NO VOTES AGAINST HIM. Hats off to the survivor King Tony

I loved Michelle on this season and I think that she has solidified herself as one of the very best Survivor social players of all time. Also, her strategic and physical games are pretty good. If Tony did not win I would have wanted her to win.

All I want is an ALL LEGENDS season, with players who have played multiple times without the elusive win. People like... Russell, Coach, Ozzy, Malcolm, Joe, Jerri, Cirie, Amanda, Stephenie, Erik, Colby, and so many more! The gameplay would be great, and the drive and determination would make it a season to never forget.

Winners at War needed the EOE in my opinion, these are all winners and most of them are so beloved, if Natalie got voted out first and had no chance to redeem herself... I would be devastated. Same goes for so many of the old school players that got wiped out pre-merge, I was really greatful that technically they were still "in the game".

The way I see it, the wiping out of the old school was detrimental to the season and should have been foreseen by producers. It was 12 vs 8, meaning 4 old school winners in each tribe. a 9 vs 9, old school tribe vs new school tribe, would have almost made sure some old school winners would have made the merge. Post merge, the season wasn't celebratory anymore to me, it became yet another modern era season.

Answering your points: - Jeff has stated that production will always ensure at least 1 person is not immune in any way possible. This scenario played out on Game Changers with Cirie’s elimination. - As with all tie votes, revote, then if there’s no one left to draw rocks, fire-making challenge - They have never answered this question specifically, but speculation has it that they either bring out people from Ponderosa ie pre-jury, to form a temporary jury and revote on the winner. Either that or fire making to determine the winner.

EoE could work but would need the following changes: 1. The exact advantages and disadvantages that can be sent back into the game need to be known upfront so they can be planned for in terms of players game strategy 2. All players pre merge get to duke it out to fill the post merge boot spot - 1 person gets back in the game and the rest go to Ponderosa This would freshen up the 'we need to keep the strongest team' pre merge ideology

OMG I remember you put footage form the genius in the purple edit video. I asked you what it was and you told me. As a person learning Korean I was so hooked to find a competition reality show in Korean. hearing you talk about the garnets at the end was such a good point. I don't think fire tokens being potential money would've changed much since the winners really all wanted to play hard. However, for first-time players, I think fire tokens acting as garnets would cause more thought to go into whether or not they should buy an advantage or not.

I thought the season was very entertaining, though as someone who is bigger fan of the more methodical old school vs the hyper-focused, everyone is playing at day 1 new school, I was very annoyed to watch all my favorites go so early. Rob's my favorite all-time player and I was so mad watching him use his smart but obvious tactic which got him the boot and I was super bummed Yul didn't make the merge. I think Tony did great and is a deserving winner, I just really would have liked to see the merge have several big players going after one another rather than Tony, Kim, and several under the radar players. I think the Edge of Extinction is dumb and does eat up a lot of time, but for this season I think it worked because we get more time with all the players and they get those satisfying endings.

Sarah’s journey over three seasons is one of the best I’ve ever seen in ANY piece of artistic work. So true, so beautiful, and it almost made me cry. She’s grown so much as a player and a person and for Cops R Us to have this as the end to their journey together. I love her💗

It was kind of the perfect season - WaW maybe could have been there if there was no EoE and at least half the fan-favorites made the merge, but with that opportunity missed I doubt there'll be another like it before Jeff retires

This was a nice, conclusive season with all these people we love, but my favorites left too early for me to LOVE this season. It was stressful and sad in the beginning. For me, it was "a series of unfortunate events." (😂😂😂) Each week, losing someone I love. I LOVE the OGs, even the ones I don't. The first season I remember watching was S7, "Pearl Islands." (Love Rupert! 💖) In All-Stars, I LOVED Rob & Amber SO MUCH (still do!) that my, now 15-year-old, dog, Robin Amber, is named after them! 💖 This season was rough! Fortunately, the season ended with one of my loves, Michele, in the F3. 💖 The winner, Tony, however; I initally predicted would be one of the first five to go. He ended up impressing me though and won THE BEST fire making competition! 💖

Okay so I don’t like EoE, but there is potential for it to be great. I feel EoE should be a harder redemption. Keep the “stay on a bad island and if you can’t bear it raise the white flag,” they can also keep the reward challenges, but after every few days, a challenge is held where the last placer(s) Are eliminated. Also, change the return parts. Make it at the tribe swap (if they can. If not, one after) and a little bit after the merge. That way, people can enjoy the edge segments AND people can’t make the claim those who return don’t deserve the win. If Natalie won actual challenges and then got back, maybe she could’ve won (I am happy Tony won)

I really liked the Edge of Extinction. There's something so primitive in the way it's filmed, and the way the confessionals are cropped in on the players face. The storylines are minimal and less chaotic than the main game - it reminds me of Survivor Borneo *tear*

I know HvV is widely considered the best season, and I truly loved that season, but WaW hit different for me. I felt like I got to really know each of these people at a deeper level. I cried multiple times, especially watching Ethan’s journey and during the family visits. I was also really touched by the connections these players formed with each other. I was even happy with the winner (I was NOT happy with the HvV winner). I got the entire experience from this season, it is definitely the best one in my eyes.

Agree about the prospect of fire tokens in future seasons. I’d like to see them incorporated better into a non EOE game. Also I’d rank the season about 25th out of all 40 seasons.

Fire tokens could be used on a future season without the Edge by giving them out in tribal reward or immunity challenges and allocating different values for each leg of the challenge. 1 token for hurding barriers 1 token for digging for string 2 tokens for building the pole to get the key 3 tokens for the puzzle etc.

My rebuttal to the point on the loved ones/chaos vote episode. I think the producers could have done a better job showing what happened, but I don't think it was pure chaos. I thought the fairly clearly showed that there were 2 groups of 5, but that everyone is not sure that these lines are fully drawn and anyone can flip at any time. This culminated in Sarah and Jeremy not being sure as to if they should play their advantages. When the paranoia got to Jeremy, he played, resulting in Sarah playing hers. I think that interaction was incredibly hilarious to watch as they both stopped Jeff, told him to continue, then stopped him again, which followed with basically another whole whisper circle. That was climaxed when Sophie drew the line in the sand and just threw the cards down, making the 2 groups separate. (This is personally a move that made me love Sophie, I thought it was badass lol). As an audience member, it also felt kinda obvious to me that they would probably target Tyson barring a Jeremy immunity, but they made it seem, if just for a fleeting second, that Kim read the room right and won the day for her side, only to lose Tyson once again. So yeah, I thought they did a pretty good job and that was def one of my fave episodes, especially with the thanks to Probst at the end. :)

Also, I will preface this by saying that I am a huge Aubry fan which will tell you what you need to know, but I think throughout this season, people viewed Michelle as a goat because she was a goat the season she won and wasn't gonna be any different this time around. And especially on a season of winners, where the jury will more than likely prioritize gameplay over a personal vendetta (somewhat ironic with the votes that Nat received but obv Tony was still overwhelmingly the leader and that's why Natalies friends from EOE voted for her, A. cause they got to physically see her game, like Parv, or B. cause they probably knew Tony would be getting all the votes so they voted for their friend.). Big tangent aside, she was never going to play a strategic game and was never a threat to win, so I think it wasn't shocking at all that she lasted as long as she did, especially after the "hyenas" were either eliminated or hypnotized by Cops R Us, and I'm honestly kinda surprised she was ever in the position of being voted out. I could have told you she would make the final from the beginning, cause you would have been so naive to think you couldn't beat her in the end during this season. Which also annoyed me, cause she is probably sitting at home thinking she justified her win by making this final 3, where I think she really didn't do all that much to deserve it. RIP AUBRY

Smash Mansion I’ve heard from exit press that some jurors wanted to vote for her, but they were afraid the votes for nat, tony, and michele would be relatively equal, but nat would win. they didn’t want the edge returnee who went out first to win. I don’t know if it rlly had much to do with resoect

I think that for only this season, with so many winners and a lot of fan favorites probably never playing again, the edge was a good way to keep them on the screen and in the game so that they can stay for jury. This allowed these fan favorites to keep playing the whole time which I think was a good thing. And also with the final four fire making twist, I'm also not a huge fan of it but I loved it in this season because I think it was the nest ending to the cops r us alliance. They were loyal to each other the whole game and then were put against each other at the very end for the win basically. The emotion once it was over was so heartbreaking.

I think producers wanted Kim to win hr first season. She was handed every advantage from the day 1. This season she learnt its not easy to win. Sophie and Michelle still remain 2 undeserving winner of their winning seasons. Denise tried hard this season to shake off her underdog tag and was successful till a point

in the old school player's defense, if you categorize old school being originally played in season 1-19, then they were outnumbered to begin with. 8 old school to 12 new school. even if the old school like WANTED to make an alliance (on either tribe) the numbers weren't in their favor from day one

I think you misunderstood the ben move. it was easily the most powerful moment of the season, he was HATED by some for just aggroing his way to the end and not making any friends outwiting or outplaying but just outlasting by idols (immunity or hidden) he has said it was really hard and he almost didnt come back but he wanted to prove that he could go far without all the idols. However he actually made friends this season, he won challenges and still aggroed people but he had a crew no longer was it ben vs the world it was ben and his team vs the world. so when he said "Sarah i love you dude i give you my blessing" to an ally who wasn't going to turn on him it was powerful because for the first time ben and us the audience realized what ben's true arc was...Friendship. Ben says i would rather have friends leaving this game than 2 million dollars and that paired with Michelle comments on controversial winners really shows you just how intense even winning can be on your mental health but looking at pictures of them post game ben LOOKS happier, and while he may not have two million to show for it he left the game with two great allies...and friends.

Tony Vlachos, King of Survivor, one of the greatest and most entertaining players, him winning definitely makes me rank this season as my number 1 after the pre merge was continually teasing me by suggesting Adam or Nick was going to be voted out, only for it to be someone I cared about. Sarah may have not made it to FTC, but let's be real, she played the second best game of anyone on the island, as she said at Tribal, just because she was working with Tony, doesn't mean she was working for Tony Props to Michelle for winning two immunity challenges, but apart from that she played a terrible game, and mostly didn't get voted out because there was always someone with a higher threat level than her, she wasn't a goat, but she was the closest thing to it on this season. The Edge obviously shouldn't come back, but for this season I enjoyed getting to spend more time with people important to Survivor, who are never coming back, the loved ones visit and the speeches after the final Edge challenge were worth it alone for me. People have said that without the Edge the strategy would have been more coherent, but I think the reason the strategy this season seemed so wild and chaotic, is because the strategy this season was wild and chaotic.
