I'm not a nurse, but I'm teaching medical English to a student and I found your video really useful to understand what vocabulary to focus on and what might be relevant for her job at the hospital. Thank you so much for the concise yet detailed explanation!

Just something I learned this week in my nursing program: shaving is no longer recommended because it has been shown to introduce bacteria and increase risk for infection. Now it is recommended to clip hair

Hi! I love how you made this video. This will help me on my coming board exam. But i have a question.. About Pre-op teaching. If that’s the case, about the pt. did not understand the procedure, what will the nurse do? You said earlier that we are not the one who will do the consent but rather a witness. So, what would the nurse do in order to give to the pt. his full understanding about the procedure? Should we call the surgeon to explain again the procedure? Thank you
@thatnursingprof2661 Жыл бұрын
Yes if they need clarification we call the doctor to come back and explain it again.

Question: if someone doesn’t believe in blood transfusion and somehow they require one due to blood loss, what do you do? You let them die? Or do you take the chance of saving them and face consequences later?
@thatnursingprof26614 жыл бұрын
This is called an ethical dilemma. If they didn't consent to it you can not give it. Think of other life saving measures people can refuse like CPR. We do our best and help how we can but we can't give it, and there is a possibility of death. They know this before they sign the refusal.
@amuletmoon72 жыл бұрын
If it's a planned surgery, they can have that patient have their blood drawn to save it for the surgery so that they're using their own blood!
