Periphery - 22 Faces (Guitar Cover by Alexander Ivanov)

Here comes my second guitar cover! This time I’m playing a wonderful track “22 Faces” by my favourite progressive-metal band Periphery. It took me about three weeks and eight strings to learn and polish this song, and I’m very happy with the results. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)

Not gonna lie, this is literally the most impressive and perfect guitar cover i have ever seen on youtube. It's right up there with the official walkthroughs done by band members themselves. I have been blown away by it since i first found it and i occasionally come back to it just to watch it. You absolutely nailed the guitar tone, and your track is laid over top of it so well that i can tell you didn't miss a single step.

Man I always think that the main verse riff was more difficult than that. Turns out, the most complex parts were the hook / chorus. Very nicely played and damn clean. How many takes did it take to get those runs seamless like that?

Really great cover. This honestly sounds like a playthrough that bands will sometimes post to show them playing a song. I hate to be that guy, but any chance you have a tab, or reference for a tab, I just can't get that last chorus lick to sound right with the tabs im finding, and having a hell of a time picking it out by ear.

Spot on cover man. Question about the guitar; I'm thinking about getting an rg8, Do you recommend changing the pickups for this type of music?

I played this guitar for about three weeks and I think it's a good choise if you want to try 8 string stuff but not yet ready to spend a lot on high-end instrument. But you would definitely have to change the pickups, because stock pickups on this axe are not good. I'm thinking about buying one myself and upgrading it with some pickups like Tosin Abasi's new signature model or just Bare Knuckle Juggernauts (I have those in my 6 string, sound great, but not that much different from EMGs for my ear). So yeah, get an RG8 and set it up with good pickups = good cheap metal stick.

I actually just upload videos and I can't monetize them, so the copyright still belongs to Periphery. Just upload covers but don't expect to make any money out of those :) Also, I believe, if you record all the parts yourself, you can kinda share the copyright with the original writers. This way you will be able to make some money on it and some royalties will go to Periphery as well. But than wouldn't be much money, so I wouldn't bother doing so.
