My grandfather was a volunteer for the Civil Defense in my hometown. Chances are, he watched these same films.

People of the 50s: We'll never have to use these shelters People of 2020: LET US IN LET US IN

From the date at the end, MCMLXIII, 1963. Seeing the portable transistor radio at 1:30, I surmised this to be from the mid-1960s. Modern-day naysayers have gone off the charts. Yes, there would have been radiation sickness and death in just about any of the hypothetical scenarios presented in nuclear-attack CD films. IMHO, it's better to attempt something, than to do nothing. As history has shown, despite planning for it we've not yet seen what may actually happen in/after a nuclear attack. With the current world situation here in November 2024, one angry/misguided/wrong move may prove once and for all what will happen. What will you do -- fight for life, or surrender to death? Think about it.

The date that I'm writing this is April 16, 2022. As I write this, I'm 61 years old and I'm just now finding out what the heck fallout shelter was. I remember seeing these posted outside of some buildings in the City of Chicago and wondering what the heck that meant. I never asked anyone either. I thought it was that I had to be careful walking through there lest anything fall out of the roof of the building on my head.😂

These films always depict nice, clean, well dressed 'good people like us' middle class white folks in the suburbs.

These films are a great snapshot of life during the Cold War, obviously mostly about a nuclear attack, but, and there is always a but, why did they present everyone in nice well fitting clothes, the woman with perfect hair and makeup etc and the men in shirt jacket and ties, even later in the film they look quite comfortable with ties and jackets on etc etc, it isn’t until things start to get uncomfortable both physically and mentally that anyone starts to dress down.

This shelter needs a 45 inch flatscreen TV, robot servants, toilets and showers and bathtubs, bunks, a kitchen, and drones outside the shelter.

Not BS. Read the accounts of those who survived Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Educate yourself please.
