This was worth watching as I had been doing research on my paternal grandfather who was born in the town of San Roque (now part of Cavite City) near Manila. It's no surprise that the Filipinos loved the United States especially given that my great-grandfather fought in the Philippine Revolution and liked the U.S. This influenced my grandpa to join the U.S. Navy in 1920 and become a U.S. Citizen in 1938. Though my grandpa enjoyed being a musician in the Navy, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor the day it was attacked on December 7, 1941. Even though he survived because he was at mass that day, things gotten worse for grandpa because it would only be a short time until his parents were killed in the bombing by the Japanese. Watching this really shows just the agony and pain my grandpa had to deal with because of the deaths of my great-grandparents. Even to this day it is really hard to do genealogical research on his part of my family probably due to how much records must have been destroyed during World War II and how hard it must have been for the Philippines, especially in both Manila and Cavite City to recover from Japanese occupation. 🇵🇭🇺🇲

My school, a Catholic school managed by the American Christian Brothers, is located behind the baseball stadium, separated only by a creek. I used to pass by this stadium on foot as a kid for many years on my way to school not knowing that many Japanese soldiers and some Americans were killed inside that stadium. Today, across the stadium is the Century Park Sheraton hotel and a new shopping mall is currently being constructed. The stadium was renovated and is still being used to this day.

@Christopher Parco Why do Filipinos always proclaim Marcos as the best president ever? He wasn't. He was corrupt and evil. He and his wife are the reason why the Philippines got left behind by your now rich Asian neighbors. Also the Philippines still sucked after colonial rule, only, during colonial rule, the suckiness was hidden behind a facade of nice buildings. Many years after independence, there was still a lot of bombed out buildings that lingered about and many of the nice buildings before the war were either never rebuilt or were inferior to their original designs. Oh and even back then, there was also a lot of poverty and corruption. This is based on a story of some old Filipino lady I read.
@cashewnuttel90543 жыл бұрын

The B17s and many of the P40s went airborn immediately after news of the Pearl Harbor attack. Several hours later McArthur received permission to conduct bombing of the airfields on Formosa (Taiwan). The planes landed and the B17s were being refueled and loaded with bombs while the air crews received their briefings during breakfast. This is when the Japanese attacked. They should have attacked several hours earlier, but after the war researchers dug through the Japanese log books and discovered there had been bad fog over Formosa that morning. The attack had to be delayed several hours.

We have long been trading jewelry made of gold, silver & precious stones; agriculture produce; pots & plates; textiles & clothes; and, exchanging cultural practices with various Asian countries which similarly enjoyed freedom & liberty. Long before the 400 years of colonizations by foreign powers and adoption of Philippines as the name of the country, we have been independent, spoke more than100 languages, written in our own alphabeth ---- Baybayin and had its own currencies for trading. Imagine if US Com. Perry did not force Japan in 1853 to open its closed door policy to trade and commerce, it could have not invaded Philippines, Korea, China and other Asian countries. The Japanese would still be wearing kimonos, katana (sword) & geta (wooden shoes) today. No attack on Pearl Harbor as well.

The Philippines were just a bunch of islands like they still are. They were "primitive" and others took advantage of them like the Muslims and the Spanish. The Spanish at least unified the country and made it a "republic". Learn the word,"repub;lic". The Spanish gave the natives education, government and progress. Music, food, dances, and festivals and Christianity.

America was able to liberate the Philippine Islands from Japanese control. America's accomplishment in destroying all of Japan's Aircraft carriers and retain it's Aircraft carriers in the Battle of Midway, made close air support possible in the Philippines. It was the Aircraft carriers, B-17s, and Atomic bomb that made the United States the victor of World War II. It is still the sole Superpower on our planet.

After that Japan acquired western edycation & technology and developed its steel industry. They they started to develope its military arms and become a powerful and defeated Russia in 1904-1905 naval war. Had Japan remained a.close country its people would still be wearing kimonos and carrying katanas (samurai sword).

It’s ironic that in WW2 Americans and Filipinos were fighting together to defeat a common enemy but just 50 years prior the US bought and colonized the country after defeating Spain and treated the Filipinos unfairly. The Philippine American War is rarely taught in depth in American public schools (for obvious reasons). The history is pretty similar to Japanese colonialism of Korea. Many Americans forget about this or are simply unaware and uneducated. I’m curious how the American Philippine relation is taught in the Philippines. I would like to hear your opinions on this if any Filipinos are reading this.
