After having been trained by Army Instructors, been one myself, and instructed other instructors, I can say that things haven’t really changed much. The acronyms, learning factors and such may have changed but human nature hadn’t. One exercise I did with future instructors was to have them teach a short 5-10 minute lesson on anything. The only stipulation I had was that it could have nothing to do with the Army. They couldn’t just grab a manual and regurgitate the material. The imaginations of my candidates really impressed me. I had one woman who brought in sheets of paper and taught the class how to fold an origami rabbit. I had one NCO brought in a box of chocolate bars and taught the lesson on how to unwrap and eat a chocolate bar. A lesson plan was presented, and all the principles of instruction were adhered to, training aids were utilized to their fullest extent. It was a mighty tasty lesson.

Dang, during that 1st aid demonstration, the only thing I noticed was that the tourniquet was below the wound. I didn't even notice that they forgot to sterilize the knife first.

Hehe they made a LOT more mistakes that even the instructor didn't notice. Their silly attitude would make most soldiers SCARED of being helped by their fellows. Definitely the worst time in instruction to inject humor, when their lives are on the line. Though that was more a "hindsight 20/20" case as many people now see all those men losing thier lives as nothing more than fodder to the commanders at the time and unfortunately, this isn't the only video that puts duty over their lives even if the "duty" was a complete waste.

@@MarioMastar actually, there wasn't much in the way of cannon fodder tactics for the US during the war. Aside from the Buna-Gona campaign, there was hardly ever cannon fodder tactics used.

This would have bored me to tears. I'd say we won the war in spite of training films such as this.

Hehe ironically we won because Russia destroyed Germany's army, stretching them thin on a 2 front war. It was kind of lucky because D-Day was so badly planned it caused a lot of unnecessary casualties, also because of bad luck, as this wasn't the first beach front storming they did, but they assumed the Germans (and Italians in one case) wouldn't notice the ships until it was too late when the scout planes were spotted ahead of time. It's like PIcket's last charge in the Civil War but..... far less necessary as the US wasn't backed against a wall like the Confederates were.

The NCOs and officers never followed Amy of this when I was in. Most training was done straight out of the CTT manual.

That ending! XD "Liutenant... shouldn't they have let the man lie down befor-" DING DING! *machine gun fire* *Video cuts off abruptly* XD on a similar note I saw a far bigger mistake being made: Victim: "What are you doing!?" Aide: "Helping you fix your arm!" Victim: "OKay...OW!" *gets stabbed* That's a lawsuit against the entire military waiting to happen if those soldier's actions worsened the man's condition. It's not just about physical procedure, but mental as well. I think they were getting to that but the video cut off just as the guy was asking about that. If a victim is conscious, it's best to let the victim explain what's wrong, let them know what you're going to do and assist as necessary. That way it doesn't look like saving the man's life is just one big joke. Course that's Hollywood for ya. XD

and reminding soldiers and people of why they are out there in the first place so the discipline doesn't feel less like training and more like fodder feeding. It's no wonder many people said "If I were captured at that time, I'd have sung. My country doesn't care about me." but now the incentives are better and they seem to try to care about sodliers well being more than artificial loyalty expectations.

It's Hollywood. Actors and costumes to make the war look rosy and patriotic as possible. While ironically showing the army as incompetent, though I wouldn't be surprised if there was a large "Anti war" reputation in the 1940s and thus Hollywood had to make everything look goofy to calm people down about the efforts while tongue in cheek making fun of the system most people were drafted into.

The gas chamber thing didn't sit right. Two chemical warfare classes, on the same day, at the same TIME, set by higher ups, and only one gas chamber meant...SOMEONE was going to be SOL no matter what. The major chewing the captain out acted like his lack of foresight caused the issue, but best case scenario the major would just be chewing out the OTHER captain. Ah, military leadership.
