Unbelievable today to see how this magnificent city was transformed by the finances of one man! The thought and care put into its reconstruction, burying of utilities and building all modern shopping structures as Colonial replicas is just astounding. America has many such Millionaires and Billionaires today but NONE would be willing to spend his money so freely today to restore a place to such an extent.

I've lived in Williamsburg my entire life and this is one of the oddest films I've ever watched. An awful lot of the buildings you see in this video are still remaining and seeing people go in to these in the past while you know people are still walking into them at the moment is a very weird feeling. Watching this though I feel like the layout has changed unless this is including the buildings near the beach.

I have seen the" layout" change on my visits there. They were tearing down some houses not from the period, in recent times. They also build things "like" what could have been there it seems. Beach? now that I did not know was there. Sometimes we miss what is right in front of us.

I willalways like historical episodes of the Colonial cities of Williamsburg Virginia showing beautiful Colonial architecture from the 1600s and 1700s and showing Williamsburg Virginia in 1936

My parents and myself were born and raised in Williamsburg and we still live here, my parents are in their 80s. It's amazing to hear their stories that are definitely not spoken of from the "African American" perspective in these documentaries of Colonial Williamsburg. The African American Department of Colonial Williamsburg is limited in what they can portray as "slaves" during those times.

I was born and raised in Williamsburg and am still here. My family landed here in 1648 and the restored area is awesome but the rest of the area is just a tourist area. It has gotten out of hand with the destruction of farms and our forests with gated communities and rich people that want to change the area into something from above the Mason Dixon line that I do not want here

At 1:45... In restoring Williamsburg, all houses that were not of that period were demolished. Probably the 1st time in America that urban renewal was used to rebuild the past, not the future.

Colonial Williamsburg is set in the year 1770.I worked there for over 12 years and enjoyed it very much.

I've been there three times, first time was in 1970. It's neat to see it hasn't changed that much. I really enjoyed watching this film 🎥. I recommend everyone to visit there.

It’s really amazing how much it never changed my husband and I went to this exact spot for Christmas 2016 and it was the most beautiful place at Christmas time I have ever seen lots to do there everyone is dressed in period clothing, the tours and back stories that they still do , the gardens haven’t changed the carriage ride with horse and bugy was magnificent if you haven’t had a chance to experience this I suggest that you do

W&M grad, loved my time there! The campus has really changed, I wish they'd kept it "in harmony with the surrounding architecture" but progress is what it is. Thanks for sharing this!

A family road trip vacation as a kid, late '60s early '70s, I have vague but fond memories of Williamsburg. That's where I fell in love with big thick molasses ginger cookies. Strangely don't remember the bizarre fashion of women's dresses being 2 ax handles across.😳

It still gives me chills to stand in the same spot as those famous people of the past. The buildings are stunning works of art. Will it stand in today's foolish way of destroying the past?

Shot in 1936, yet could pass for the current day. CW has not evolved or taken any steps to stay relevant in today's day and age, thus it's a dying tourist location.
