A few years before this there was a jamboree in Washington, DC. I entered a contest on an essay of, "Why I'm proud to be an American," put on by the VFW. I won and I got an all expenses paid trip there and to the World's Fair in NYC. Quite an experience for a 12 year old country boy.

Only 12 miles away from my current location! Northern Idaho has completely changed since then. It's amazing to see how organized this Scout program was....and I wonder if it's any bit the same today. I never attended Boy Scouts, but was in a similar boys program at church called The Royal Rangers where we learned outdoor skills. Good times! Thanks for sharing this video.

It’s my understanding that part of Idaho has become a playground for the rich and the regular folks have been castigated to the margins or something like that. What say you? Such beautiful country up there!!

@@rapman5791 That is actually a very good depiction of what has happened up here. It will be a shame when I move away to a more desolate part of the country.

All of the boy scouts in this film from 1967 would be either senior citizens or passed away by now (August 2023). Respect...

This is not from 1967, it's from the BSA National Jamboree of 1969 - but the banner running across the top of the full screen version of the video does say 1967. The title above these comments, written below the video also mistakenly states 1967 and uses the 1967 World Scout Jamboree of 1967's motto, "For Friendship." At 14:35 the narrator states that man's first landing on the moon happened "while we were at the Jamboree" but that moon landing was in 1969, not 1967. at 0:45, the banner on the bus correctly states "7th National Jamboree" which was a Boy Scouts of America (USA-only) Jamboree in 1969 - (not a World Scout Jamboree). The 12th World Scout Jamboree took place in 1967, in the same area of Farragut State Park shown in this video, which had been a wartime US Navy training centre. Its motto was "For Friendship" in multiple languages. This video's title says that its Jamboree had that motto - but the BSA 1969 National Jamboree featured throughout this video had the motto / theme "Building to serve." At 20:02, you can see that motto - the dates above it fit the 1969 BSA National Jamboree but not the 1967 World Scout Jamboree. (There was a Skill-O-Rama at both Jamborees - I attended the 1967 World Jamboree, July 31 to August 9.) Lady Baden-Powell (23:40 in this video) appeared at the 1967 World Jamboree as well as this 1969 BSA one.

If the first moon landing happened while this jamboree took place, then it was 1969 and not 1967. Looks like the copyright at the end was 1970, which seems about right given the time they would have needed to edit the footage.

You're right Steve - this is the BSA (USA scouts only) National Jamboree of 1969, not the 12th World Scout Jamboree of 1967. "For Friendship" was the motto for the World Jamboree, not the National Jamboree whose motto was "Building to Serve."

A little before my time, but I had older cousins who attended in the early 70s and told all about it - I was awestruck! Great time to grow up.

The Apollo 11 mission was in 1969 but this film talks of it happening during the 12th jamboree in 1967. Also says neil Armstrong sent attendees a message from the moon … datesxmske this impossible!!! Or am zi missing something here?

I had a great time back in the mid to late 70s and the Boy Scouts . I recall a suitcase full of items that you were required to sell in order to pay dues as a kid I forget the name?

You're right, Bruce - I was there in 1967 too! I'd watched almost five minutes of this before I realised that all the Scouts were from USA - partly because I'd seen no flags but the Stars and Stripes. It's still a great film - thanks to Periscope Films for posting.

@@PeriscopeFilm Thank you for a great film, but you still need to remove the title above these comments / below the video that says "Jamboree for Friendship 1967" because the video is entirely about the 1969 BSA-only National Jamboree of 1969, whose motto was "Building to Serve." "For Friendship" was the motto of the 1967 World Jamboree, held in the same part of the Farragut State Park.
